Rating: Summary: Great start to a great series!!! Review: I'm so glad that I have a great helper in picking out books! Guilty Pleasures was recommended to me after a long debate. I am a fan of Brian Lumley, some Anne Rice, Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert & Robert Jordan, so I really didn't think I would like this author. Boy, was I ever wrong! I finished the vampire hunter novels in 1 1/2 weeks!!! Yes, all of them!!! What an amazing series! Hamilton knows how to keep you on the edge of you seat! This is not your typical 'vampire novel'. Hamilton plunges you into a new world! One that is dark, seductive, dangerous, & believable. This series is a must have in your collection! I'm looking forward to indulging in her next series! Looks like Hamilton has found her way to my favorite authors list!

Rating: Summary: Good premise, mediocre execution. Review: The idea behind this series is a good one, but I'm about four books in (very easy read) and the execution just isn't that impressive. I find the character of Anita Blake to be generally unpleasant- she's the cliche hard-as-nails detective, and just because she's a woman, I don't find it any less cliche. In spite of this, the supporting characters are far more interesting and amusing, and make the books palatable, but they're still somewhat two-dimensional. In addition, the dialogue is a little flat. Lastly: There are about ten thousand better ways to convey sarcasm than writing "Ri-ight" at the end of every third paragraph. To sum up, they'll past the time, but there are much better books.
Rating: Summary: A quick read Review: I thought this book was pretty good. It was a 'very' quick read. I don't allow myself to read much during the semester, but I figured it's the begining and this book only took me 3 sittings...which are very brief sittings b/c of homework. I really enjoyed her modern take on vampire hunters. I am not a fan of buffy, in fact I hate her, but I liked this book. I am from the sTL area so i was able to think about that area alot. Especially the summers! I liked her characters, but I found these book a little easy to guess at. *****maybe a spolier, but not really***** I mean...as most people *i hope* figured out what Zachary was doing as soon as him and anita raised the dead. I didn't think it was so clever, but all in all a good read. I will be reading the next book..which is...????
Rating: Summary: It's a keeper! Review: What could I possibly say to praise this book that hasn't already been said? Anita Blake is one of the best, most real characters I have ever had the priviledge to read. Between Animators Inc. and RPIT she's seen horrors you can only imagine but she faces that and her own fears every time she takes on a new case. In other fantasy novels the authors make the mistake of editing out the fear their hero/heroine feels and just add bravery and courage alone. Anita Blake has seen what goes bump in the night and like anyone with sense she does feel fear but she handles it and goes on. She's so human you almost feel like you know her. Laurell Hamilton has a winner with this one. Hamilton brings up moral issues throughout the story and you can follow Anita's character development with every page. It's absolutely brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Dark and Exciting... With an Added Twist..... Review: A departure from your average adventure series. In a world in which not only were-people and vampires exist, but are also considered as legal citizens, Anita Blake is not your average girl. This petite, physically delicate woman is dubbed as "The Executioner". She is sarcastic, brave, and a true heroine. As the series progresses, we see Anita faced with moral and ethical problems that we ourselves may face. She fears becoming the very thing she hunts - monsters. These are books about love and loss. They;re about life. Just with added twist that the were-people and vampires bring.I bought this book because it kept appearing in my ... 'Recomendations' and have not regretted it since. Guilty Pleasures in excellent start to the Anita Blake series. The series keep getting better and better from here.
Rating: Summary: Great beginning for a great series Review: This book is my favorite of the Anita Blake books. Its really exciting and as a lot of cool characters. My favorite is Anita Blake I love the way she is writen as a strong woman and will do anything to stop the bad guys even if she might get killed. This is a really great book to read if your into vampires or other prenatural creatures.
Rating: Summary: Awesome - give me Jean Claude Review: Wow, what more can you say? Violence, romance, vampires, and Anita Blake made for many hours of enjoyment. I found it hard to lay the book down but decided to pace myself so I could enjoy it longer. I am currently reading the Laughing Corpse and am eagerly anticipating the ever sensual Jean Claude's appearance in the book. Thank you Laurell, my mind is enjoying it.
Rating: Summary: Magnificent Review: An absolutely wonderful start to a fantastic series. I am usually more of a fantasy fan than a horror fan, but I loved Caress of Twilight and Kiss of Shadows, so I thought that I would give the Anita Blake series a shot. What do you know, they were great. Laurell K. Hamilton is a superb writer who is not afraid to just write what is real and not be bogged down by the conformists. Kudos LKH!
Rating: Summary: Buffy of the Literary World Review: The paralells between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Anita Blake series are virtually infinite. Both are tough, slim, short hot girls whose main goal in life is to free the world from the baddies. Both seem to have more than their fair share of relationships with some of these supernatural "baddies". Both of them love weapons. And both of them kick major .... while cracking tongue in cheek jokes. I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And I love these books. I read several reviews pertaining to the lack of sex in this first book. Well if you want sex, read on....the series soon becomes permeated with it. Ms. Hamilton seems to either give us too much or too little. Personally I prefer too little. I'm more on the ride for the action and plots, not the sex. If I want sexual satisfaction from a book I'll read a romance novel. This is not a romance novel. In the same way Buffy the Vampire Slayer has become more and more "sexual", so do Hamilton's books. Since it is a series, some of the books are more for setting the scene and creating sexual tension than supplying a release for it. I would say on the whole though this series (taken as a whole) has something for everyone. Humour, Horror, and lust. An easy writing style and a killer character make this book a must read for anyone who likes things along the line of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
