Bullsh-t stops being bullsh-t when you put on a white coat and talk down to sad f-cks like you are god almighty. Then it becomes deep insight for $100 an hour. I'd like to maintain an intimate relationship with Drew's depression but my superhot girlfriend wouldn't appreciate that.

This book is primarily about the side effects of medications with very little practical advice on maintaining relationships during depression. There are far, far better books on the market on this topic with practical help in them. A good therapist can tell you the points in this book in five minutes. Don't waste your money here.

It offers insights and advice about how to help someone you love and it sheds light on issues that nobody talks about - how depression and its treatment can interrupt intimacy and that we all deserve to have full relationships, even if we are livign with depression. It was easy to read and encouraging.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Intimacy should not be sacrificed because of depression Review: In my constant search for information and advice on how to help relationships survive depression, I found Restoring Intimacy: The Patient's Guide To Maintaining Relationships During Depression. Restoring Intimacy is a book of questions submitted by people living with depression, as well as from their partners and family members. The questions range from how to recognize depression in a loved one, how to cope with side effects of antidepressant medications that may affect sexual function, and how to talk with a doctor about depression-related intimacy problems. Seven mental health experts, answer the questions, clearly, concisely and in a language that the average person can understand. This is the first book I have found that addresses real-life concerns about the impact of depression and its treatments on intimate relationships. It is also one of the only books that includes the partner and/or family member in the process of recovery. Restoring Intimacy reminded me that intimate relationships are not dispensable and they shouldn't be sacrificed because of depression or its treatments.
Rating: ![0 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-0-0.gif) Summary: In response to the review from Philadelphia Review: In response to the reader from Philadelphia, PA, National DMDA created Restoring Intimacy because we want people to realize how difficult it can be to live with depression. We also wanted to deliver the important message of hope. This book attempts to provide answers to questions asked repeatedly by people suffering from depression or living with a person who has depression. These questions demonstrated a need to fill a gap in communication concerning depression and relationships. We believe Restoring Intimacy is a valuable resource for people who have many private, personal questions and to help them get the support they need to achieve full recovery. People suffering from depression find help from different places - many require medication to recover. National DMDA never endorses or recommends the use of any specific treatment. We urge people to consult their physicians and/or mental health professionals for their best treatment options. Regardless of the treatment decision, Restoring Intimacy offers additional guidance in regaining intimacy and reestablishing personal relationships. As a non-profit, patient-run organization, our primary concern is the well-being of the patient. Our hope is that Restoring Intimacy will help people experience full intimacy while effectively managing the treatment of their depression. It is our hope that Restoring Intimacy will continue to help many people who are suffering from depression and their loved ones. Lydia Lewis Executive Director, National DMDA

I am struggling with a husband who is depressed and this is the first book I found that addressed the problems of intimacy when a spouse is depressed. The panel of experts gave thoughtful and helpful answers. Most of all, it was hopeful and reassuring to know that I am not alone.

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Not worth the money or time Review: This book is padded to fill out 85 pages. There is no message here besides, "See a doctor - try pills." It suffers from the same lack of integrity as most books written by committee. The cover is beautiful. The title is enticing. It's a marketer's ploy for praying on depressed people and their spouses, reaching out in hope. It's the first book I'm actually sending back to Amazon.com.
