Rating: Summary: Excellent Book!, read my review Review: i love this book, im not done reading it yet. But in the book the writer says See-Threepio and AreTOodeetoo instead of c3po and r2d2. still a must buy
Rating: Summary: Superb Review: I read this before the Special Edition came out, and was amazed at how much the movies left out...but then, I saw that Special Edition added scenes that were originally in the book (I am referring to Star Wars: A New Hope). But still, the stories just captured the setting and thoughts of all those characters perfectly, better than any movie can. I've read it again and again and never gotten tired of it!
Rating: Summary: How I liked the three books Review: I thought the triology set was good except for the fact that Empire Strikes Back was too short to describe the events that happened.
Rating: Summary: The quality? It varies... Review: If you liked the movies, this book is something that you should find quite agreeable. "Star Wars" is probably not as well written as the other two stories(a friend of mine remarked that "it reads like a script"). Still, read it if you must. The writing gets better with "The Empire Strikes Back", but I think it would had been a lot better if Glut had gone into detail a little more. Still, even if it is missing something, it's still good. "Return of the Jedi" surprised me. Many critics say it is the worst movie in the "Star Wars" trilogy, as it can be constructed as weak and childish in some respects. Yet it makes for the best book of the three! Since it is best, of course, to read all three books in sequence, a compressed edition should be very convenient. I would recommend this book to most "Star Wars" fans I know. But on the whole, I'd rather just go out and see the actual movies instead

Rating: Summary: A Treat For Those Who LOVED Episodes 4,5, &6 of Star Wars Review: If you love to read, and you LOVED Star Wars, this trilogy is fantastic. It goes more in-depth, with the thoughts of the characters, and it's a fantastic potrait in words and is like the movies, but only better.
Rating: Summary: The Book tells a some what of a different story. Review: If you want to know the original story of Star Wars then you better read this. It tells how George Lucas origanaly thought of the Star Wars Saga. He changed the story alot when he made the three movies. So if you want to see what George added and took out of the movie you have to read this book.
Rating: Summary: The MOVIES were great, but the books... Review: Overall the writing here is no better than average. I believe most of the high ratings are due simply to the reviewers really liking the Star Wars movies. The books, on average, add very little to the story seen in the movies. Often people will see a movie and say "Oh, the book was much better." Usually that's because they made a movie from the book. Here it was vice-versa, and the result is not the same. When you consider this is actually a volume of 3 separate books, they are really too short to be very good. A 2 hour movie usually comes from a 400 page book. Here we have 3 movies resulting in almost 400 pages of more or less just going over what happened in the movies. Granted what happened in the movies is pretty good. The third writer, Kahn, does the best writing IMO and manages to add a bit to what we got out of the movie. Recommended for completeness for Star Wars fans, but if you are one you've already ready, eh?
Rating: Summary: Full rounded story. Review: Overall, this is not a huge book, but contains elements to complete the movies storyline. Even with a 3 film span, the book is harder to read than most Star Wars novels, including SW Episode II. However, George Lucas' vision is realized in the most basic of ways in the 3 stories that weren't shown on film. Simply put, you aren't embarking on a strict movie tie-in when you turn the pages, rather a raw form that the movies followed. For those that want to read the original storyline, and I'm not saying it's 100% different than the movie counterpart, pick up this read. It's hard to put down. The first tale, A New Hope (Episode IV), shows Lucas' initial vision, while Ep. V & VI more or less expand the story already in place. No true Star Wars fan should be without this, if I may, companion piece.***The reviewer is author of: Amber Spirit: Poems & Stories (Hats Off Books, 2001) and a frequent magazine contributer & short story contest judge. Rating: Summary: Lucas can buy better writters, can't he? Review: Perhaps the original printed edition didn't quite have the resources behind it as, let's say, the movie's Special Edition had. I regret that such a spectacular vision and story goes unfairly represented in print. All Star Wars fans know that this broad, complex and vibrant universe Lucas created and was able to translate into a visual medium (sometimes better than others, i.e., "A New Hope:" compared to "Return of the Jedi"), deserves a literary treatment by talents at least of the caliber of Timothy Zhan (who wrote the "officially sanctioned" literary sequels to Episodes IV through VI)or better. Maybe after the release of ALL the "prequels" Lucas can use some spare change from the BILLIONS of dollars he will be worth to buy better Translators for his magnificent vision.
