Rating: Summary: An extraordinary work from a unique author. Review: I came across this book several years ago in a used book store, attracted mainly by the weird title and cover art. I turned it over, noted an enthusiastic endorsement from Stephen King, and thought hmm... I rate this book as one of the most pleasureable and unique reads I've ever had. It is certainly Carrolls' best work, and turned me almost by accident into a devoted fan. Buy the book.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME BOOK EVER!! Review: I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK. ONE OF THESE DAYS PEOPLE WILL UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR JUST AS AWAKE WHEN YOUR ASLEEP. I HAVEN'T READ A BOOK WELL WRITTEN ON DREAMS IN A LONG TIME. I'LL MISS PEPSI...
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: I loved Bones of the Moon for its imaginative and attention-grabbing storyline. I just thought this book was one of the best I've read and I gobbled it up taking brief pauses to savor the taste. The real world and Rondua are both places that are vivid and a pleasure to find yourself in with the characters who are flesh out and have interesting tales to tell. If I were to recommend one book by Jonathan Carroll this would be it.
Rating: Summary: My Sting Experience. Review: I once called Rockline when Sting was on, and got through...So there I was talking on national radio to Sting. My question to him was, What were his favorite books and authors? He told me (and the whole country) that he was presently reading Jonathan Carroll's BONES OF THE MOON. He said he liked Carroll's other books, too. Haven't yet read it myself. But I'm tempted to from Sting's endorsement.
Rating: Summary: I would have stolen it from the Uni of Richmond!! Review: I was looking for a copy of this book to see what all the fuss was about. To my amazement, I found that I wanted to horde that book away from everybody else. (No-one's going to read it on the University of Richmond campus! NO-ONE! <diabolical laugh>) I actually found myself caring for the characters and the story (although I was rather angry towards the end about what happened to Eliot and what it implies). Anyways, if anybody can find a copy of this gem of a book, pick it up and hold on to it. It's worth it!!
Rating: Summary: great out of the gates, but... Review: I would have given it five stars, but after writing an enthralling story, it was as if the author said to himself, 'enough is enough, and now I will tack on a hollywood-style formula ending.'but it is short and the book is worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Stunningly well crafted! Review: I've found it...the perfect book for the non-reader of science fiction who wants to be transfixed and carried away by the interaction of realism and fantasy! The story of Cullen and Pepsi left me breathless and sobbing. I'm sure this book has characters in it who'll not leave me for the rest of my life. Incredibly, the book is fairly small and quite easy to read. What a masterpiece!
Rating: Summary: This is more than just a book... Review: It is without parallel! I could tell you all the cliches...I couldn't put it down, it was a page turner...but it is all that and more. The first thing I did when I finished the book was cry. I am not the crying type...oh, I'll cry now and then at a movie...but books so rarely touch me that way--even though I love books. This one got inside of me and I doubt it will leave me very soon...if ever. It is not a sad novel. It isn't a tragic novel. I felt cleansed, invigorated, magical, and so happy to be alive when I finished this book. Even now, I am tearing up..wow, amazing! I hope you can go out and find this book. Even if you are crazy busy, take a few minutes a day to read this book. It isn't a long book, nor is it terribly heavy or difficult--I think that's part of the beauty of this book. There are times when the saying "less is more" really is true. I read it in the span of two days (about three-four hours total). Good luck, and happy reading!
Rating: Summary: Please bring back Carroll into print! Review: Jonathan Carroll is one of my all time favorite writers and I have tracked down (in libraries) over the years all of his books. This is still one of my very favorites. It makes you wish you could spend a day inside Carroll's mind to see how he comes up with his fantasy world. The writing is so fresh and so dreamlike -- I dare anyone not to fall in love with this book. Seek out all of his books and you will not be sorry.
Rating: Summary: Early masterpiece by a fantastic author Review: Jonathan Carroll is one of my favorite authors, and I spent years trying to track this down. I finally got a copy and it was worth all of the time and energy and waiting. This book is one of Carroll's earliest, and introduces a number of memorable characters: Cullen James, the main character, and Weber Gregston, who appears in some of Carroll's later books. This book tells the story of Cullen's vivid dream life, but more importantly it makes some keen observations on courage, love, and friendship. The real pleasure of reading Jonathan Carroll is in finding all of the little nuggets he includes--a vivid description of a street scene, or a sensation, or a new way of looking at something. Take the plunge & give this book a shot. You won't be sorry.
