Summary: Books, Music & Magic...
Review: ...what more could you ask for in a story?

"The Little Country" was my first exposure to Charles de Lint. I quickly fell in love with his incredible talent for making the real magical and the magical real.

This is a wonderfully complete story - Janey Little, her grandfather, her friends and community are fully drawn and interact in a believable myth about a magical book.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: By reading all of the other reviews I thought that this book would be right up my alley, and the actual story line was, but the execution of the story really lacks something. I felt no real connection to the characters, and there was never any suspense to the writing that made me want to read further. It's not that I disliked the book - it's that it didn't stirred my emotions at all. I felt that it was a waste of time.

Summary: A remarkable tale of magic and music
Review: deLint builds a universe of magic, and places it in our world, mixed with known myths and folklore. That is his forte, and he is a master. In this book he combines two enchanting tales with a common link that is sometimes hard to see, but at the same time easy to follow. All through the book, folk music and folk tales from the British isles follow us, and creates an athmosphere of pure magic. This is somewhat different from the Canadian / US setting we are used to from deLint's other novels, and "The Little Country" can not easily be compared to these. It is different. Is it better? I like to think so. I reccomend this book wholeheartedly.

Summary: Fantastic, life-view changing
Review: I bought this book because of the cover illustration, and the first sentance, thinking these things to be enough for me to actually buy it. Upon delving into the book I realized I was reading something very, very different and interesting. This author has altered the way I view things. I have appreciation for things that I never thought of before. I have read 3/4ths of his books, and I will complete them all soon. Anyone seeking mystery in life should read this book.

Summary: Irish country tale
Review: I like this book because it stands alone. It is lyrical and breathtaking. It's a story that reader's everywhere can relate to. The story comes to life. It's not saccharine or sappy, but vigorous and satisfying. When I get friends and family to read de Lint, this is usually what I choose for them.

Summary: My First deLint Book
Review: I liked this book alot. I enjoyed skipping around from what was happening in real life and what was happening in the story the characters in the book were reading. The bad guys were scarry and added some tension. I may reread this book again. That's saying alot, because I've only read 2 fiction books twice--Jane Eyre and the Poisonwood Bible.
