Summary: Eh, I'm not impressed.
Review: Not a bad book, by any means, but not a very captivating one either. Had to make myself sit down and read it just to get finished. Not something I plan on re-reading anytime soon, so it's off to the used book store with this copy!

Might be nice as a Library read, but I wouldn't recommend buying it. Even if you -really- like cats...

Summary: A Purrfect Read!
Review: This definitely belongs in the hall of fame of animal tales, alongside Watership Down and Tailchaser's Song. Gabriel King shows a mastery of characterization, flowing storytelling, and beautiful imagery. His poetic descriptions, such as the sunlight investigating everthing it came in contact with on the boat Guillemot, before curling up like a cat, left me in awe. The ending of the battle between the Majicou and the Alchemist recalled the eternally battling dragons from Arthurian legend.

Summary: The Worst Book Ever
Review: This book was pure torture. I kept thinking it HAD to get better. Boy was I mistaken. I thought it would never end.
The ending was just as lame as the rest of the story.

Summary: Give me a break
Review: I think that some people like fantasy novels just for the sake of reading fantasy novels - regardless of the talent of the author. This author clearly has no talent. He starts off well, the story moves along, but he gets a bit too carried away with the language, to the detriment of the reading experience. Phrases like this kept popping up, "The sky was romantic with rain". What the hell is that supposed to mean? It did not tie to the story in any way - I suppose he was trying to be lyrical, poetic. Sorry ..... this kind of off-the-wall, out of left field stuff leaves me cold, takes me right out of the story. If those of you who gave it 4 stars truly enjoyed it, then I say more power to you.

Summary: Talking cats. And magical roads. Somehow, they go together.
Review: It's a decent book. I usually enjoy books with talking animals, so I liked it well enough, but it's no where near my favorite. For those who've read things like this before and enjoy them, it's probably worth reading. For everyone else, read something better in the genre-- if you read this one first, you'll probably end up hopelessly confused. The characters are cute, but the plot line is as twisted and jumbled as the thoughts in the character Cy's head. I enjoyed it, and it's always neat to see a different type of perspective in fantasy, but it could have been written much better.

Summary: One of the greatest novels...
Review: This novel is great. It describes the characters so vividly, and the personaliyies are so different, unlike some writers are able to acheive, (Harry Potter). King's writing style is so reffreshingly different, he paints a picture with words as well as an artist with a brush. There is pain and death in the book, but it's not gory. And the mystery is more endearing than the bland one in Harry Potter. Love the world and follow your nose...

Summary: A Beautiful Journey Into the World of Cats
Review: I am an animal lover, so you could guess that most of the books I read are about animals! I read Watership Down and Tailchasers Song but this was a true origonal. The characters become developed from the first page they appear. The book has it's beautiful moments I feel like I am really there, one of the cat kind. It has it's lauphs, the titled "Insane" Cy, who is really try to tell the others something. It has it's sorrows, the characters are developed so well that you will feel their pain, and miss them greatly if they leave. It also approaches the true problem of animal cruety. More than once the cats escape a fate considered to them worse than death by mere inches. Some of the scenes where horrifying but you must read them because good is just around the corner. I'm purrrrring with satisfaction.

Review: The world was new and different and I liked the details, can't wait to read the next one!

Summary: Lots more to find out!
Review: This is just the best book I've read. I first read about the wild roads in Gabriel King's other book, The Knot Garden, but reading them out of order hasn't spoilt The Wild Road for me. It was great to meet Tag, Cy and the Majicou and find out the origin of the wild roads. Reading this book has allowed me to see Orlando the Dreamcatcher from the perspective of his "ancestors"! I think Gabriel King was right to bring in human characters, to show that all people aren't as bad as the Alchemist. I look forward to reading The Golden Cat, and the fourth book, Nonesuch!
