Summary: My favorite book: Katherine Neville's The Eight
Review: I read The Eight for the first time in 1994, and I have read it several times since then; I have three copies, in three different editions. It's too bad your summary doesn't mention the second story in The Eight: the one that takes place during the French Revolution. That's my favorite part of the book, and it's just as important as the contemporary story. I love the way Katherine Neville combines these two stories. Her descriptions of Algeria are great, too. And, by the way, I have good news for fans of The Eight: Katherine Neville's next book is coming out in April 1998. I created a Katherine Neville fan page; the address is: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~vickik.neville.html

Summary: Reality check
Review: I was excited to stumble on a book with so many "10" ratings, and I agree it is a pleasant read and worth buying. But the best book ever written? I don't think so. I'm being uncharitable, but the action scenes are nearly laughable, the obvious option of simply destroying the "McGuffin" is never considered until the end, the secret-society stuff was better done in Fowles's "The Magus", and various science fiction stories have done the powerful-mideast-artefact thing in a more arresting way, I think. Still I finished it off on a long weekend in the Loire valley when I should have seen more chateaux, which shows how engrossing it is. Bodices do get ripped, by the way, or at least shirts, and very enjoyable it is, too

Summary: MY TURN, MY TURN, MY TURN TO SPEAK, please
Review: I read this book at the advise of my friend's friend. Please understand I only read the books of two authors ONLY. But the book came highly recommended from someone who enjoyed the book (like I cared) and my friend picked it up for me. After NOT being able to put the book down once I got started as it was so compelling, and after it was stored it away for safe keeping, and after moving several times, I have lost the book and was MISERABLE. Now I find all these wonderful souls praising this wonderful book, and I am so happy to participate in the bestowing of well earned praise to the author for a job well done, all I need to complete the circle is go out and find the book in hard cover as before. Wish me luck and thanx Ms. Nevill

Summary: Lost and now am found. 2yr hiatus 2 years too long. Great!
Review: I lost this book in 1995 in Texas at Scarborough Renaissance Faire. Searched eveywhere, lost for good. So I thought. Found this great online service and all was well.Oh yeah...solid writing, great use of history, and beliveable women characters. Not a bodice ripper, I like that about it. Until I finish it, I can rave aobut it no longer. I just wonder if it was Bobby Fischer all along.... (hmmm......

Summary: world history personified!
Review: Hard-to-put-down book. Amazing how you'll enjoy browsing thru history 'coz she makes the famous people look and act like mere mortals. The plot spuns a mystery within a mystery. Go figure what happens in the end.... Sometimes, you've just got to believe that these things do come true..... Makes you also think, why not? Why not indeed

Summary: I wish there were more books like this!
Review: Like everyone else who's submitted reviews on "The Eight," I have to say that this is one of the best books I've ever read--one of the few I almost wish I could erase from my mind so I could have the sheer pleasure of reading it again for the first time. From the first page, I was hooked. I can't recommend it highly enough--romance, adventure, fantasy, imagination, and a hum-dinger of a plot leave you guessing until the end (if you can last the whole thing without taking a peek...it will be hard!). I can't wait for Katherine Neville to write another book

Summary: A mix of history & vaulted imagination run wonderfully amok!
Review: Amazing book -- and I generally dislike fiction! Imagine mixing disparate parts of history and recent political Intrigue, with an added dash of mysticism...like a James Burke book with a singular plot and a heroine in danger! A chess-game of a plot, spanning time and intellect. Excellent, rewarding book - if you know nothing of history, you'll love it. If you know ANYTHING about history, you'll be delighted!

Summary: May I just say: WOW
Review: This is an incredible book. Every once in a while I find a book that captures my attention for days, so that I can't work or play without thinking of the book. I wish I hadn't finished it. If anyone knows of any other books as good as this one, will you please email me? Thanks. And thanks Amazon... without your customer reviews, I never would have found The Eight

Summary: "The Eight" by Katherine Neville
Review: This is possibly one of the best works of fiction ever written. Exciting, engrossing, enchanting and enticing ; other books pale beside it. My mother found this book a few years ago in a bargain bookstore in Glasgow and the copy is in danger of falling apart from being read so much

Summary: A can't stop Reader of a Book.
Review: This book was given to me as a gift from a very special chess friend. I love to read but read slow sometimes (just taking my time), but not this book I read it in one weekend (the only one since then). I reread this book every year because it is just amazing how the author gets you involved and keeps the story moving at different paces through out the book. I wish I could find more books like this one. Too bad that a 10 is the highest I can rate this book, because a 10 is really too low of a rating. It makes you want to visit the autor face to face just to shake her hand and express your thanks for such wonderful reading enjoyment. Well got to go the book is calling me again...
