Summary: Intense
Review: This series is very good - although I would advise reading the first two, then go on to something else & then come back for the next two, go on to something else & then read the 5th book in the series. There is a lot of information and it sometimes bogs down a bit, but is WELL worth the read. This is one of the finest renditions of the "Arthur/Merlyn" tale. It's very different and not all fans of the Authurian Legends will appreciate the story. If you're looking for "The Mists of Avalon" (one of my VERY favorite books) then this series is not for you! For all others, take a deep breath and dig in!

Summary: same old same old
Review: two dimensional characterizations (most especially for the women -- I cannot help but see Shelagh as Wonder Woman); dialogue that is comical when it's meant not to be; slashing and blood and guts. Kind of a man's take on Zena the Princess Warrior, but not nearly as entertaining.

Summary: A Nice Twist
Review: Whyte uses this book to develop Arthur into the future king. This book does not have near the blood and guts of the other books in the series, although it still has plenty. I found, however, that I was intrigued by the new "roles" certain characters played. Read this book only after you have read the previous books in the series. It will make certain parts much more understandable.
