Summary: Better than expected
Review: We all know the good guys die in this book. We all know the evil Darth Maul has to win. We all know the Naboo blockade has to go through. Still, Reaves did a good job. For a book that, truthfully, doesn't go anywhere. This situation is similar to the Star Wars comic Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire. Maul comes just a split-second away from death, but of course, he has to live here. The best new invention for this novel: the taozin. Great. Just genius, they are even better than the old ysalamiri! This brings a little new insight into the teras kasi fighting style, but me being a hardcore fan, there was little I could learn from this. But the ultimate irony was at the end. I will not even say it here. Read the book yourself and find out what I mean!

Summary: Great Book
Review: I thought that this book was phenomenal. It was an extremely unpredictable adventure. I would request this book to anyone who is enthralled by non-stop action and adventure. I couldnt put it down until I went from cover to cover.

Summary: AWESOME EXPLAINS IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!
Review: This book really is a must for any Star Wars Fan...The story was well written and I haven't seen new characters this good since Han Solo & Chewy teamed up. (You'll see what I mean when you read it.)You really experience Darth Maul's full rage..... He sure is one bad A*%... I read a ton of Star Wars books and this has got to be one of my favorites... (Check out those Jedi Apprentice Series as well. They are simple reading but the stories are VERY addiciting................

Summary: Horrible book from top to bottom.
Review: There are so many things wrong with this book, I just don't know where to begin. I'll hit the high points:

* Lousy character development. Everything about Darth Maul is a rehash from "Darth Maul (Star Wars Episode I: Journal Series)", by Jude Watson. Watson's book is a MUCH better study of Darth Maul and the philosophies of the Sith, despite being a children's book. Read it instead!

* Most everything in the plot relating to the Jedi is inconsistent with the Star Wars universe. (Why would a Padawan's test be so rediculously easy, and on Coruscant to boot?!)

* The "sly" references and details Reaves liberally smatters through the book are feeble at best. Every martial arts move used by Darth Maul is based on Tatooine-native animals. But Tatooine is a less-than-minor backwater planet whose natives barely rate as thugs, much less cultural masters.

* There are no new details to add to the Star Wars canon, just a bunch of rehashed, repackaged slop.

* Did I mention the writing itself is infantile?

I am dismayed that I wasted a gift certificate on this book. It's reprehensible to charge money for it!

Review: I haven't read this book yet. Basically because I can't find it. I've read a whole lot about it though. I used to be a huge SW fanatic and I still enjoy it somewhat. Most pre-trilogy books are terribly stupid and have no plot what-so-ever. From what I've heard and read, this is different. The storyline sounds great, kinda like a "Rainbow 6 meets Yoda" sorta thing and I can't wait to read it.

Summary: By far, my favorite Star Wars book
Review: This book is by far my favorite Star Wars book. I enjoyed it immensely. It is true to the characters that we know of (from the movies). For example, I've read many books where you have Boba Fett or Darth Vader or Emporer Palpatine yakking away endlessly, yet they don't seem like the talkative type. I do wish it was a longer book... but, again, that's the result of it being an enjoyable work.

Review: this book is centered on me.

You'll love my thought process.

Summary: Both a new and not so new story, but good insight into Maul
Review: I'll say I was really excited when I first heard about this book and eagerly awaited reading it. Not to often does a book focus around a 'bad-guy' as the star, but you'll have to admit what allures us so much to these characters (Vader, Exar Kun, Sidious, etc..) is their ability to intrigue us about their motivations, their secrecy, and mysterious and commanding personas. (The strong and silent types are always popular. See Boba Fett as an example).

The majority of the setting takes place on the Old Republic capital world of Coruscant just prior to events in Episode One. One of the Trade Federation member's defects and with him the horrific information about the ensuing blockade at Naboo. Also his knowledge of the long forgotten Sith to be sold to the highest bidder, perhaps even the Jedi. Of course, Lord Sidious cannot have this, and so dispatches Darth Maul to eliminate this Neimodian and all he comes in contact with.

Where the story has been told before lies in this: The 1st attempt of Maul to complete his mission is of course disrupted by the interference of others who get wind of what going on. Enter Lorn Pavan (human with a distaste of Jedi and a love of money) and his comedic sidekick droid I5 (refurbished protocol droid with a sharp tongue). Also throw in new Jedi padawan, Darsha, (friend of Obi Wan Kenobi) into the mix as her current mission also stumbles upon the ensuing pursuit by Maul. Darsha, I5 and Pavan (an unlikely alliance brought together for survival) are now on the run through the underbelly of Coruscant's lower levels to the Jedi Council. Here, twists and turns of action take place, and we begin to understand the character of Pavan. Also we begin to feel for Darsha, and what it feels like to be on her first mission on as a fledgling Jedi. Smiles and chuckles are supplied by the sarcastic I5.

Where the story is new: I was really impressed in the detail and new locations with Coruscant. Believed to be the crown jewel of the Old Republic, little has ever been discussed about the lower levels of the planet. Here we see like any metropolis, seedy locations and species are abound all with their own agendas. Survival is the key as is greed, and the danger lurks around all corners. All species at this level are the underprivileged, trying to find a way out to the levels above. New monsters are introduced as well as new insight into both the Jedi and Sith belief systems.

This is where Maul shines. We now understand more about his origin, his training, his thoughts, and his hatred for the Jedi. As a reader, I even began to respect him as a warrior through his discipline and ethics. Nothing gets in his way, and he does not consider his shortcomings as failures, but as setbacks. Failure is not in his vocabulary.

Anyway, the chase is on through the whole book and I was wondering how the author was going to pull it off. The elimination of those characters I came to enjoy so much, for they cannot survive in order for the events of Episode One to take place. I was pleasantly surprised on how this was handled, and a really neat *easter egg* appears on page 300 which explains all in a nice tight paragraph.

All in all, I found this novel very good with nonstop action and a great resolution that does not diminish Darth Maul in anyway or any of the supporting characters. However, I will agree with one other reviewer that 'cliché' phrases are abundant in this novel and is probably the only irritating point within these pages. Sometimes they sound downright silly even coming from a Jedi.

Summary: Much Better Than I Expected
Review: When I first started reading this book, I didn't think I would like it much. I was wrong, it was wonderful! The characters were mostly well developed and they were more ''alive'' than the usual Star Wars characters we see in other novels. The suspense and action was never ending and especially the ending blew me away, when we meet a certain senator. If you liked Episode I, you'll probably love this book.

Summary: This is an excellent book. Highly Reccomended!
Review: This book is absolutely fantastic. It has well developed characters, and is one of the few books with a bad guy as the main character. It is action-packed, suspenseful, and stuffed to the brim with all sorts of cool Force moves and awesome scenes involving lightsabres. I highly reccomend it!!
