Rating: Summary: An engrossing story...comforting. Review: My father loaned me this (hardcover)book 10 years ago...I couldn't put it down! So excited and thrilled after reading this extraordinary story,I immediately reccommended it to my aunt's husband...(knowing,we had similar interests.) and loaned him my father's copy of the book. A month later when I asked for the book back,my aunt imformed me she had burned the book because it was "of the Devil"...how sad I was that the narrowminded of this world never allow themselves the joy of a good read. ( not to mention the impressive bibliogrophy included to suggest that this may in fact be closer to non-fiction than not.) I've been reccommending this book to people ever since. Not being able to find a copy in print since, you can't imagine my delight at seeing the trailor for "What Dreams May Come" at the theater last September. This is by far the most engrossing and satisfying story I have ever had the pleasure to read and comforting explanation of questions about the "afterlife" that I have ever encountered! Please, Sir, Write more!
Rating: Summary: To all of those who love or have loved...this book is it!!! Review: After watching the movie,I knew that the book and myself were destined to be together! Just last week, I found myself glued to the last few pages during my Physics class, trying to conceal the tears that were flowing down my face. This book brings both love and happiness, along with the faces of reality into a unique and wonderful mesh. I have been through so many things in my life that I thought I was destined to be alone in this world. However, this book has given my hope and perserverance that there is something greater out there to look forward to. It has also given me the chance to look at myself and see just exactly how I can change in order to obtain that peace of mind we all want out of life. I recommmend this book to any and everyone. It is one that I will never forget and will pass on to all that visit my path.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Review: This is a great, thought provoking book! Bravo!
Rating: Summary: The book was great but the movie was greater Review: I saw the movie and loved it so much I wanted to read the book. I loved the book from cover to ... well, almost to the back cover. But when the Powers That Be send his wife into reincarnation I thought, "Oh, no! A loving God couldn't do that. The power of love is greater than that." And this is precisely, in my opinion, why the screenwriters abandoned the author's ending and went with the Power of Love. Otherwise, the book and the movie both show what many ministers ignore: Can anyone forget his spouse after his body has died? Can I go to one place in the spiritual world while the one I love the most goes to another place? What worse hell could there be? So this book should wake up Christian theologians to think about what the limitations of salvation are -- or at least as they are commonly taught.
Rating: Summary: Richard B. or Richard C.? Hey, Amazon... Review: Amazon lists the father's books under the son's name. What's the deal? Richard Burton Matheson wrote the original What Dreams May Come, Incredible Shrinking Man, Somewhere in Time, etc. How can authorship change after more than 25 years in publication? (One star for confusion, not for the book).
Rating: Summary: An inspirational story Review: After I saw the movie starring Robin Williams I just had to read the book. This book really changed my outlook on my life and made me realize what the important things really are. It also consoled me after the recent death of a loved one. I am now in a determined search for any book that Richard Matheson has written as he is an incredibly talented, diverse, and thought-provoking author. He is now one of my favourites after also reading "Somewhere in Time" and "I am Legend", and I am currently reading "The Path". I look forward to reading more of his work.
Rating: Summary: Be sure to buy two copies so you can keep your own. Review: I originally read it 20 years ago and since then have re-read it numerous times and lent out my copy so many times it is rather dog-eared now. I am so glad it is back in print and available for gift giving. The movie was alright but not the same as where you can go in your own head. I am sorry that some people condemn it because it doesn't fit in with their interpetations of "heaven and hell" and how you can get there. None of us really know now do we? Can't say enough good things about the book and I agree with another post it is definately worth more than 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Loved the book - liked the movie - but LOVED the book Review: Forgot my email in my review comment
Rating: Summary: Loved the book - liked the movie - but LOVED the book Review: I think this an excellent book to read if someone is dealing with grief of the loss of someone that has died. My mom passed away 3 years ago and I read any book I can on the topic. I like to read what authors imagine heaven is like. I got alot out the book. Most books I read and pass on to share. This book I will keep in my libray. My husband read it also and he loved it. It is an excellent read. A real page turner. Another good book along these lines is by Scott Peck - In heaven as it is on Earth" Good read also.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I really just wanted to point out how interesting it is to read everyone else's reviews. It is interesting because most of the people who give it bad reviews are narrow-minded Christians. I think you all need to lighten up. I think Shakespeare said it best when he said "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." My point? My point is that in all honestly, there is not one of us that can say with any kind of assurance what happens when we die. So why don't you open up to some new possibilities? It certainly can't hurt! Oh yeah... about the book... I thought it was extremely original and thought provoking... one hell of a book!
