Rating: Summary: Read it. One of my 5 favorite books. Review: This is really hard to beat. I think What Dreams May Come and Somewhere in Time will endure as great classics. See both movies, and read both books; you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Is Better AND Worse than the Movie Review: I thought both the movie and book were excellent but they both could have taken much from the other. The movie made great use of the visual medium, exploring a heaven made out of paint because that was Anne's favorite thing in real life. The book goes into much greater detail with its ideas about life and death and than life again, when compared to the movie, but I think the movie made a strong enough point without starting to sound like a theology class. The movie is also better than the book, because it gives a REASON for why Anne has such strong emotional problems. Her children dying would be a good one. Plus the movie gives a lot of description of how they were before Chris died, which really gave more depth to their relationship. It made the viewer feel how special they really were. The book didn't do as great a job in my opinion. Also, some small, but annoyed me, Chris is a "script writer" in the book. He is much more likeable as a doctor in the movie. There is actually a hint about this at the end of the book(Chris is supposed to come back in his next life as a doctor), but I still think the movie did a better job. I also enjoyed how the movie began and ended with the sailboats colliding which seemed to me the perfect conclusion. The books conclusion seems too cold, fortune-telling, and scientific. Overall I think the movie did a much better job than the book, because even though the book did a good job of describing the afterlife and what is thought to happen there, it seems more like a reference book than a true love story.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!! Review: I bought this book in an airport while waiting for the plane to LAS VEGAS! My husband and I both fear flying, but by the time we boarded the plane, I was engrossed in the book, and had a wonderful flight, while he fidgeted and moaned about the idea of me reading a book about "Death" of all things while flying! The next morning found me eatting breakfast in my room, while reading...I didn't want to put it down, not even to go PLAY!My Father-in-Law had recently died, and I found this book very comforting.Wonderful book, have recommended it to many people.
Rating: Summary: Very, Very thought provoking... Review: If only the movie could've been done the way this book was written minds could've been opened up so much more. Yes, I liked the movie allot but it contained only about 10 percent of the ideas in the book.It starts off with the car crash and what it must be like to be inside of the mind of a person who is dying. Soon, death sets in. Then the wonder if it is really a dream and if so when it will end. Soon, the realization sets in for the person that he is actually dead but still, there is that denial. Once the acceptance of death occurs, he realizes that he needs his wife to join him but she hasn't yet died. But how is he to communicate with her? She doesn't believe in the afterlife. How can she be reached now? How will she survive on her own? Well, if I were to go on with this review I would give away story of the book so I must end my writing. The book is one that you will not want to put down on your table until you have finished reading it from cover to cover. I read it in one sitting and now I want to read more on the subject. I think that you will do the same too.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, thought proviking and enjoyable read Review: This book picks up on the subject everyone loves to talk about or hates to bring up. I thought it was well written and imaginative, it is detailed in death, a thing that no living being can recognise, therefore they cannot critisise the author for depicting the events after death, this is what makes this book such an enjoyable and intruiging read.
Rating: Summary: This book changed my life. Review: If you never read another book read this book. It confirmed everything I have ever believed about the after life and higher power watching over us. An inspiration.
Rating: Summary: THE ONE BOOK THAT CHANGED MY LIFE Review: I first read this book in the early 80's while in high school. As a local hoodlum at my school, I was never interested in reading much. For reasons still unkown, I found this book in our school library and picked it up and read it. It had a strong influence on my belief of life after death and on the complete importance of life itself. I'm sure other books could have had the same impact, but this was the first one to touch me so much. I have told many people about this book and for years was unable to find it, due to being out of print. I will get a copy and keep it to pass on to others.
Rating: Summary: Spiritual, beautiful and inspiring. Review: If you are spiritual and believe in reincarnation, I strongly recommend this book. What might and could happen after death and how deep love can go beyond life are in this book. A beautiful book. I could not put it down.
Rating: Summary: This book made me re-evaluate my views on the afterlife Review: I felt that this book really made me re-evaluate my ideas and thoughts of life after death. I believe that death is not something to be afraid of and that the end really IS just the beginning. I would definitely recommend this book to family and friends, and if I were to know of someone near death, I would not hesitate to pass it on to them.
Rating: Summary: A story of hope Review: A wonderful story that takes place in heaven and hell, leaving the reader with a sense that there is a future after this life. That what happens now, what we do, think and feel during our lives is for a reason.
