Rating: Summary: also found as the third tale in young miles Review: *grin* i can't seem to stop praising Ms bujold because the vorkosigan series is truly one of the best series on earth! the vor game is the second major tale in the miles vorkosigan series following the warrior's apprentice and the short story mountains of mourning. again, we have a really funny miles novel. after graduating from the academy, he is sent to kyril island (cold hell on barrayar!) as a weatheman for the military base. again he gets into trouble (this is afterall, miles *grin*) and then we slip into the more substantial part of the book where he begins his impsec career and saves the day (and the emperor) with the dendarii. yes, miles is reunited with the dendarii in this book! great book, wicked humour, smart plot, engaging chracters. do try the vorkosigan series if you have never before. start with shards of honour (about miles' parents) or jump right in with miles in the warrior's aprpentice or young miles(a collection encompassing the vor game). get it!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but not very thought provoting Review: A Hugo? I find it hard to believe.. This was no Ender's Game. I think my expectations were too high for this work.. It was the first Ive read from Lois McMaster Bujold.. Like others have said -- no problem jumping right into the book without prior knowledge or reading the others in the series.. It is typical of a lot of the science fiction television out there, just wasnt expecting it from a book.. Guess I need to read more.. I was a bit spoiled with Orson Scott Card's Masterpiece ' Ender's Game'. 3 stars -- and not one more.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: About the only thing bad I can say about this book is that the pace is a bit uneven. During the early phase of the book, while Miles is the Weather Officer on Kyril Island, things are a bit slow. This segment of the book is necessary for future developments though, so it couldn't just have been cut. But still, its pace is slower than that of the rest of the book. Other than that triviality, it's really an excellent read.

Rating: Summary: Very enjoyable, but that's it. Review: As all Bujold books, you read with a smile. You don't walk away stunned or awed just happy. No incredible ideas, or thrilling action, just great characters. If you like one book, you like them all. Only Mirror Dance stands out among them (for me).
Rating: Summary: Miles in the Military Review: Bujold's characterization of Miles' graduation from military academy and entry into active duty is hilarious and suspenseful. We see an immature young man faced with a life or death decision within the first few month's of his first posting. The adventure goes quickly into the galaxy from there. Bujold's skill in building her characters is what makes this one of my all-time favorite series. She allows her charcters to have weaknesses and attempt to resolve them. I suspect this series appeals to both men and women--my brother likes it as well as I do!

Rating: Summary: A wonderful adventure! Review: I just found this and the others of Lois McMaster Bujold's work (through my mother!) and have enjoyed reading her books. She does an excellent job of characterization which allowed me to buy into and care about her characters. I even read the author's afterward which I don't always do (depending on my interest). Anyway, this was a great read... enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Terrific...but Hugo material?!! Review: I was a little disappointed in this one because it won the Hugo award. I love McMaster Bujould's characterization and the zany situations her characters get into. I also liked in this book, the fleshing out of Emperor Gregor. I very much enjoyed Mile's twisted strategem and his nemises Cavilo was inspired. I love strong female characters. I hope McMaster Bujould brings her back in the future. It was not, however, award winning stuff. I loved Barrayer so much that most of her books that I have since read have been anti-climatic. Oh well, they are still great fun.
