Rating: Summary: A Good Gift for Litterbugs Everywhere Review: I was introduced to this book in my sixth-grade ecology class, and it made me so sad because the Wumps were cute and didn't deserve to have their world destroyed. I plan to give a copy to my parents' neighbor, who recently cut down acres of beautiful trees for no good reason.
Rating: Summary: A book for any age Review: I'm a 36-year-old father of 2 boys. This book was my favorite when I was 6 or 7, so I was delighted to learn that it is still in print. Now my children absolutely adore it.It has the right combination of science fiction, lovable animals and environmental awareness. A perfect bedtime story for children 4-8 years old. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Political Correctness run wild Review: If you want your child to be a radical, depressed enviro-wacko, this is the book for you. Start them early in believing the all man is bad and that development and capitalism is the evil of the world. The "pollutians" destroy the wump world. The symbolism and parrallelism to our earth is too obvious. Keep this liberal trash away from your young children. Fortunately, most kids will be too young to understand the meaning behind this indoctrination.
Rating: Summary: A Third-Grade Wonder Review: My third-grade teacher read this story to my class when I was eight years old and it immediately became the class favorite book. I was so enchanted with the story, I went home and wrote an play based on it. The production of "The Wump World" by Mrs. H's Class was an elementary school smash, and I love the book to this day. It is a gentle reminder that we cannot take our world for granted. I love this book!
Rating: Summary: Children and the Environment. Review: There are a ton of children's books written about taking care of the environment and quite frankly, most are dull and lipid, failing to capture the imagination of the reader and/or audience. THE WUMP WORLD is not such a book. Instead, it's one of the few pro-environment children's books that is actually enjoyable to read. The message the book teaches is more than just about pollution (even though the story's villians are called Pollutians) and has to do with loving nature, taking care of the precious planet we live, and the hope of good overcoming evil. The illustrations are amusing and capture both the mood of the story and the personalities of the creatures represented. For example, the Pollutians ships and machines look like real life contraptions, but with a monster-like appearance. The kids I used to teach in preschool loved this story and it was one I enjoyed reading, too.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic -- the best for kids Review: This book has been in our family for over 15 years. It applies to then, now, and forever as we humans continue to deplete the world of its natural resources. I personally see daily applications of The Wump World to my life.
Rating: Summary: A very simple message relayed in a great way! Review: This is my favorite Bill Peet book (although The Whingdingdilly is close) and one of my favorite children's books. My father (who is also a children't book writer) read it to me over 15 years ago, and it has played a role in my love of the environment and environmental issues in general, although I did not realize it at the time! Bill Peet's illustration's are wonderful and the apparent simplicity of the story is also a key feature so that every child can understand the message of the book. The last page of the story really leaves the reader with a sense of optimism, which is very important for children to have. A must read!
Rating: Summary: Best Children's Book Ever Review: This is my favorite children's book of all time. Bill Peet is my favorite author and this is the perfect display of his combination of amazing writing with unique and impressive illustration. The environmental message of this book is so simple and it is told so that it is literally entertaining to anyone from ages 4 to 100.

Rating: Summary: A "message" book with charm and wit. Review: This is one of my two or three favorite Bill Peet books, and ranks high on the list of books that I WISH had been read to me as a child. It's also the only Peet book that has a science fiction element, as far as I know. In case you haven't read it, I won't spoil it except to say that it's similar Dr. Seuss's The Lorax except less of a chore to read aloud. Strong pro-ecology, anti-pollution message, charming artwork. Great for kids under six, but I never tire of it either.
