Summary: IT IS BETTER THAN THE FIRST BOOK
Review: A MAN BETRAYED IS BETTER THAN THE FIRST BOOK! JONES RETURNS US TO HER WORLD OF MAGIC, INTRIGUE, BETRAYAL AND ROMANCE. WE ALSO MEET NEW CHARACTERS LIKE THE DUKE OF BREN AND HIS LOVELY BUT CRUEL DAUGHTER CATHERINE.I ALSO LIKE TWO GUARDS FROM THE FIRST BOOK AND THEIR AMUSING OBSERVATIONS ABOUT SEX.LORD MAYBOR AND BARALIS ARE STILL INTO THEIR DEADLY GAME OF INTRIGUE. WE LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PROPHECY SURROUNDING OUR HERO JACK.JONES CREATES SUCH MEMORABLE HEROES AND SINISTER VILLIANS THAT YOU REALLY CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO HER CHARACTERS.

Summary: much better than the first
Review: A Man Betrayed is the continuation of the Book of Words trilogy by J.V. Jones. The first seemed to end poorly, but I was still determined to read the series because of the numerous praises I have heard. Once I picked this one up, I could not put it down. Betrayal evokes the most primitave of emotions, and this book was able to do just that. I felt for the characters and went through their pain and pleasure with them.

Jack, the main character, is separated from Melli and told that she is dead. He uses this as fuel to light his fire for revenge. Jack is taken under the wing of a bad trader, Rovas, who teaches him how to fight so he can kill the man responsible for Melli's supposed death. While being taught, he falls in love with a seductive older woman, Tarissa. It isn't until his downfall that he realizes the betrayal.

Melli is captured and sold to a flesh trader. Although, the flesh trader finds out that Melli could cause trouble for his business, so he sells her as soon as possible to the Duke of Bren. Each time she tries to find out a way to escape captivity, but all she has is a knife, which ends up being her downfall.

As for the others, Tawl is sent into despair, and it is only Nabber who can bring him back. Maybor and Baralis travel to Bren to set up King Kylock's marriage to Catherine of Bren. Kylock, as the newly crowned King, is destroying the Halcus. And Catherine is not exactly what Kylock believes.

It all adds up to one great story. I normally think of the middle book of a trilogy as just a bridge to gap the first and the last, but this one stands alone, and is even my favorite of the series. Master and Fool, here I come!

Summary: Great continuation of great fantasy series!
Review: A terrific continuation of a terrific fantasy series....and I still have absolutely no idea who Jack really is, and how he obtained his powers. The suspense is killing me! I'd also like to ask Ms. Jones a question, if she ever browses Amazon's site - when do Bodger and Grift get their own series? They are two of the funniest sidekicks I've ever encountered in the many realms of fantasy - although, from the hints that were dropped in this volume, I have a feeling that they won't be sidekicks for too much longer

Summary: the book
Review: Although it starts off a little slow like all the other books of J.v Jones the more you got into it the more you could not put it down I literally stayed up till about 3:00 am trying to finish the book but you really have to read thge first book "The Bakers Boy" to undersatand this one.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Once again J.V. Jones takes to to a land of magic
Review: Although not as compelling as the "Baker's Boy" "A Man Betrayed" continues the quest to find the boy who will change the face of the world. Jones contiues to weave a tapestry of intrigue and sub-plots.....Almost as good as the first.

Summary: It took a curel twist that could have been done another way
Review: I didn't like what J.V. Jones did with her characters in this book. I liked The Bakers Boy up to a point but after reading this book... I just didn't like it at all. I read a lot of Fantasy and Science Fiction and though I love the detail of Jones description and the way the characters in the book come to life; I don't like unnessary curelty in a book. I just think there were little twists of curelty that could have had the same effect but done differently. If your numbed to the curelty of the world I say go for it. J. V. Jones talent is worth it but if not... well... its your choice.

Summary: a great continuation of the baker's boy
Review: I finished reading A Man Betrayed and it was a really great book, I felt evan better than the first book. Baraslis is a great villian and one of the best I've seen in a long time. All the characters are interesting, Taawl,Melli,Jack,Bodger,Grift,Nabber,Kylock, and Cathrine, are all interesting characters, all though my favorites are Bodger and Grift they are funny and Nabber reminds me of Tas the Kender(from DRagonlance). I hope after the 3 books J.V.Jones comes back to this world and continues the story of Jack and Tarissa, and Jack looks for her,I think the made a good couple. all in all a great story I highly recommened the book and series.

Summary: Tasty!
Review: I stayed up until four am to finish this awesome book! Having read the third book first and the first book second I was drooling with anticipation to read A Man Betrayed. I was not disappointed. J.V. Jones does a wonderful job of keeping the audience in her grasp all through the book. Skipping between characters pulls the audience into a fevered frenzy of anticipation while waiting to see what happens next!

Summary: A Decent Read; Surprisingly Neat to read
Review: I wasn't very interested in starting this book at first, hence the typical horrid fantasy cover. I found a well weaved story with a cast of at least eight or so characters to keep track of. One chapter would have endless paragraphs that switch from one point of view to another, quite interesting, but rather confusing and it got kind of dull after a while.

Nevertheless, a must if you've read "The Baker's Boy".
