Summary: An Amusing "Fantasy"
Review: I picked this book up after reading "Rats and Gargoyles", which was a rather serious book. I enjoyed the perspective of this book since I find that most fantasy novels almost take themselves too seriously in their battles of good vs evil. It was different and amusing to read a book that integrated modern warfare with medieval warfare, and also gave the perspective of the bad guys. It was tedious at times, but overall, I enjoyed it. -- Kim

Summary: Thank goodness I only borrowed it.
Review: From the cheesy, comic book cover, to the disgusting descriptions of murders and bad habits, this book must rate as one of the worst I've picked up in years. Granted, I'm basing this on only the first 100 pages, after which I promptly and thankfully returned it to it's owner.

Summary: For those who loves WarcraftII, the book is a must!!!
Review: I love the mixture of modern warfare lingo with a fantasy background. Most importantly, the author is quite humorous in her way of portraying "evil" orcs. I look forward for the sequel or any related work.

Summary: They're ugly, they're evil, but you'll love 'em.
Review: A classic piece of humorous fantasy. We all know that Orcs are the bad guys, put upon and beaten by the 'good' races. But what would happen if the Orcs discovered serious weaponry and modern tactics? The comparison between Orcs and the kind of marines one sees in the movies is done beautifully. WARNING - Don't buy this book if you are easily offended. Do buy it if you like to laugh.

Summary: The battle of good vs. evil from the bad guys view.
Review: While I have no compassion for the vile creatures known as orcs, after reading this book I couldn't help but be aware that they were charecters in fantasy just as interesting as elves and wizards. This book is slightly on obscene side(though some people like that), but what do you expect from a bunch of orc marines. If your a fantasy reader, you should take a look at this book so you can at least get both views before you start hoping that "Samwise knocks that ugly orc of the staircase."

Summary: Orc-ball - you can lose your head over it!
Review: A wonderfully refreshing book. One of the very few books I've read where I treasured the Bad Guys. Not one of the currently fashionable formula-written Fanatasies. Fast-paced, funny, and utterly different. I've read it several times and it retains an honoured place on my bookshelves

Summary: A great mix of the Sci-Fi and fantasy genre's!
Review: Mary Gentle's book Grunts, An Fantasy With Attitude is a refreshing book. Since I like both Science Fiction and Fanstasy its been good to finally read a book that mix's both without becoming incredibly boring of just completely failing. She had a killer idea just with how she picked the proper fantasy chacter to mix with high-tech. With how she wrote the book I can't see any other creature besides an orc turning into a top notch marine.

Summary: Good Versus Evil, From the Evil's perspective
Review: Having spent years of reading fantasy novels, where the Good guys are angelic and the bad guys are nasty S.O.B's, this story turns it all around.

Are you tired of the Good guys in shining armor always having the cool magic items, the flashy Gods, the undefeated streak no matter what the odds?

Imagine being an Orc in the battle field fighting the likes of Gandalf or Theoden. Is this really fair? Do you have a chance? No, not until Mary Gentle puts a machine gun in your hands. Yes folks, its an AK-47 day.

And that is just the beginning...

Summary: A lackluster affair that will leave you drained....
Review: Expecting a fantasy comedy reminiscent of Lord of the Rings from the eyes of the bad guys? Well, you won't get any of that here.
Instead you can look forward to a ridiculous twist on the normal Orc, characters you won't care for, and missed opportunities.

The story is forgettable, and ultimately manages to drag on to it's flimsy ending.

Skip this book. You'll be better off.

Summary: Twisted Humor for the Modern Age
Review: I borrowed this from my cousin, along with the warning that he'd only made it half way through the book. I didn't believe him when he said that I wouldn't be able to finish it, but I too only managed to get halfway through before I stopped and realized that I was incredibly bored. I found myself wondering exactly what the point of the book was, and exactly when it was going to be made. Generally, I always try to finish what I am reading, even if I don't like it. There are only a few that I've had to give up on. This happens to be one of them.
