Summary: Good book but it could have been better.
Review: This was a wonderful story. Learning a little more about the Dini's was great but this book could have been better. When I first read the promo for this book I thought it would be about the threats that the Rowan and Raven would be receiving and the actual attack on them. To my disappointment the actual attack took less than a chapter. Plus the ending could really have used some help. I mean the idea was great but to have everything hinge on a man that has never been in any of the other books, that was a little hard to accept. The development of the relationship between Laria and Kincade was cool, but the rest of the odd characters and side stories would have to be explained and it was evident Anne wanted to move on to other stories. I liked this book, it answered some questions and brought some ending to sections of the story line but it also raised other questions and brought in new story lines that could be explored. Over all a good book, but it did not meet all expectations.

Summary: I am a faithfull Mccaffrey reader, but this book is awful.
Review: I have been engrossed in the lives of Anne McCaffery's various characters since I first read Dragon Song at the age of twelve. Fortunately, The Tower and the Hive is not the first book by her that I have read. The book lacks any sense of a cohesive plot and is filled with tedious narratives...I am not sure why I even bothered to finish the entire book!

Summary: Sigh
Review: I liked all the Talent series, although I found Lyon's Pride a little slow in places. But this one stopped. Dead. Okay, I'm exaggerating, there were definately a few interesting moments, but it was just so slow. I found myself skipping such large bits it was difficult to follow the plot. And the Rowan hated beetles, where did this sudden liking spring from? I doubt I'll reread it.

Summary: The book is good but not as great as the rest of the series
Review: The story is great, but the fifth novel in this series does not have the same dynamic storyline as the other four novels. The story is a fun read, but the author does not emphasis on any dominant characters like in previous novels.

Summary: Well.........
Review: This book isn't as deep as the others. I liked the Hiver parts, and about finally learning more about the Dini's.

She recently mentioned the Charter, but I would like the gap filled in between the Pegasus books (To Ride Pegasus, and Pegasus in Flight) and The Rowan. I think it's facinating what happened with Talent.

This was not her best book, not by a long shot, but McCaffrey fans are waiting for the REAL book to end the series.

Summary: Tell me more!!!!
Review: The Rowan is my absolute fav book of all time. I liked Damia, too. The characters are convincing and very lifelike to me. However, I feel that these last three books in the series lack the action and the intrigue, the overall fullness, that I loved about the Rowan. The plot seemed stuck in one place throughout Lyon's Pride and The Tower and the Hive. Also, I thought it was a bit too heavy on the romance. Please...I want to hear more about the FT&T struggle and those beetle aliens. I would also love to see more of the Rowan and Jeff Raven.(They're my favorites!!!) Don't let me discourage any potential readers, though. Definitely try these books, if only just the Rowan. And...despite all shortcomings, The Tower and the Hive was an excellent taste of what I hope will be soon to come.

Summary: It was something to read
Review: I had not kept up on this series, but I came across this book when I was looking for something to read. That is what I got, something to read. No story, no plot, just a lot of character developement. The first book I have read in a long time where nothing happened. Well, I have to admit some of the characters were mildly inconvenienced, but nothing really happened. End of story, everyone lives happily ever after.

Summary: Needs another book
Review: I liked the fast pace for a change. However, a lot of loose ends and typos as others have mentioned. Something should have been done to move the captured queen from the moon base to her own home. Need a another book on contact and talking to the hivers. Maybe a spinoff series. Need more Talent tales along with brain ships.

Summary: Not Anne McCaffrey's Best - Leaves a lot to be desired
Review: This book was worth reading to see how the moral dilemmas were dealt with, and the final solution to the problem of the Hivers was definitely worth reading the book for. A very satisfying solution.

Whilst this is a good read, with fast, pacey action, much detail is left out. I felt that this was an attempt by Anne McCaffrey to finish the series in a hurry, and the plot lines that were started and finished in this book needed at least two books - possibly three - to do them justice. Many of the sub-plots - political intrigue within the Alliance; tensions and dissent within FT&T; personal problems with certain individuals etc etc were dealt with far too quickly. These could have been developed and expanded on but tended to occuring mainly 'behind the scenes' and only bursting into prominence just at their resolution.

Whilst trying not to give away the storyline, Ms McCaffrey's solution to the problem of Hiver communication left a huge plot hole - namely how do they communicate through space? I felt that she got hold of a good idea and stuck with just the one method of communication - humans have several (body language + speech), as do Mrdini language + dreaming) - why don't the Hivers?

Overall a good storyline which has been spoilt by hurried storytelling.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Disappointed. Not her usual style. Probably ghost writer.
Review: If she didn't feel like finishing off the series, she should not have done so. This was not her usual style of writing, and I have read all that she has written. Don't like quick fixes, and while all the ends were tied up, the story was lacking in fullness and depth. Couldn't connect with any of the characters, even though they were mostly re-occurring.
