Rating: Summary: I didn't want it to end! Review: Sharon Shinn created a story and characters of such overwhelming power this reader hated to see it come to an end. I suppose that is the greatest praise an author can receive for his or her work. Simply magnificient!
Rating: Summary: This book is hard to put down!!! Review: I picked up this book like so many others in the library thinking, "ok, so the title sounds interesting". Then as I began to read it I found that I could not put it down. The whole thing between Gabriel and Rachel is what made it that way. They seem so wrong yet so right for eachother. I wish there was a sequil dealing with them. I read Jovah's Angel and it didn't produce the same results. I am kind of sceptical of reading her latest sequil to the books. Maybe it will be better. I hope that this book entices everyone that comes in contact with it. I would enjoy hearing from anyone who enjoyed this book as much as I did. Write with any comments.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful story, extraordinarily told Review: Ms Shinn has created a world and characters that I could not help but become enamored with. She writes such descriptive prose that I could see and feel the events unfold. I didn't want it to end. This is truly one of my favorite books of all time, and also the first fantasy/sci-fi book I have ever read. I would encourage anyone who wants to be totally captivated by a book to try this one, you will find yourself immersed by the end of the first paragraph.
Rating: Summary: ^i^ Sweet Jovah Singing ^i^ Review: I picked this book up in the library one day by accident, never having heard of either it or the author before. Since it has become my favorite book, and Sharon Shinn my favorite author. She is a talented writer, and her words shine with an amazing brilliance that make her characters come alive. After reading this book, I couldn't stop thinking "what's happened between Gabriel (whom I adore) and Rachel?" It is the first book I have encountered that attempts to combine The wonderful world of Sci-Fi with the sweetest aspects of romance, adding a slight touch of morality. Through all three books in the series, the suspense of finding out WHAT HAPPENS is too great to ignore. It left me turning pages for hours. This is seriously the best book I've read in ages. It was a breath of fresh air after sampling a multitude of stale stories and dull plotlines. I recommend this highly.
Rating: Summary: Oh, Jovah, this was so beautiful!!! Review: This novel is right up there with the best - it's going up on the shelf with all my classic favorites - Tolkein, Adams, Brin... Shinn has not only produced a wonderful futuristic world, she has peopled it with captivating characters and a writing style that never loses one's interest. And although neither "Jovah's Angel" nor the "Alleluia Files" are on the same standard as "Archangel," they are also quite good.Sharon, if you read these reviews, I would like to thank you for sharing your talents and providing the public with such an enjoyable book. I took great pleasure in reading your beautiful story hope that your future works are just as wonderful!
Rating: Summary: One of the best fantasy novels I have ever read Review: "Archangel" is indeed one of the best fantasy novels I have ever read. It has everything a good book should have: believable characters, a suspenseful plot, and an interesting society in which the plot is based. My only complaint is that it ends far too quickly - as some other readers have commented, I would really like to know what happened to Gabriel and Rachel and Nathan and Maga. Unfortunately, we only get a few tantalizing hints in the sequel "Jovah's Angel." So, Ms. Shinn, if you are reading this - I think I am not the only one who is eagerly waiting for a "real" sequel to "Archangel."
Rating: Summary: Great! Almost as good as its sequel, Jovah's Angel. Review: An excellent novel to read while kicked back, relaxed and wanting to lose yourself in a fantastic world. The premise for this novel is fascinating. If this is a 10 (and it is) then the sequel, Jovah's Angel is an 11. I highly recommend both.
Rating: Summary: I wish writers wouldn't mix sf and romance Review: Shinn is a good writer, but I am really appalled at this trend of mixing sf and romance. This is a formula romance page turner, well done if you like that sort of thing, but it could have been so much better if she'd paid more attention to the sf aspect of this novel (a la Jaran and Mistwalker). The premise is waaay too cute for me also (what with the gene-engineered angels) and there's no intrigue in finding out exactly what lies behind the fluffy front. In fact, she doesn't even drop any hints. It just is what it is. As an sf fan, I always feel a bit silly complaining about far-fetched plot premises, but even I gagged on this one.
Rating: Summary: The most captivating book I've read lately. Review: This was by far the most awesome book. I enjoy how it all comes about and how he goes all the way up to the fortress walking to see his angelica. Again may I say The BEST.
Rating: Summary: A highly captivating book Review: ARCHANGEL is one of my favorites. In truth, at first i did not WANT to read it because, well, the cover turned me off. Anyway, i LOVED it. I finished the book in one afternoon. I could not put it down!! Gabriel, The soon to be ARCHANGEL, is looking for his wife, Rachel, who is a farmer's daughter. He does not like that idea much. He finds her at a wedding, of a rich merchant's son, and she is a SLAVE. So anyway, that's what happens in the first two chapters, its up to you whether you want to read the book or what. I CAN'T WAIT TO READ THE SEQUEL, though Archangel will always be my favorite, for i have never encountered a book as well written as that.
