Summary: A lyrically beautiful read
Review: I don't usually read fantasy, but this book grabbed me by the heart and didn't let go. The prose is so pure that it sings as beautifully as the characters in the book; one feels the wind in the angels' wings, the pain and triumph and glory of the main protagonists. There are scenes in this book that are so beautifully crafted that I will never forget them -- scenes that made me shiver inside at the sheer magnificence of them. Brava, Ms. Shinn -- I wished this book had never ended!

Summary: Amazingly Attractive!
Review: This is, by far, one of the best book I've ever read.. Sharon Shinn's Archangel is.. how should I put it... Different.. Sure it's a love story and all but it has it's own charm that make you keep on reading, don't want to put it down. As you can see.. I'm not really good at reviewing books and stuff, but.. I just have to say that Archangel rules!

Summary: Amazing!!
Review: This book was truly amazing. My mom bought me this book and usually she has no clue what I want. Si, I approached this book with complete and utter skepticism, especially since I ahd neve rheard of the author. I was totally wrong. Sharon Shinn is very talented. Archangel is a love story. I usually hate love stories. But this story was so deep and profound that it totally broke my book rules.

Summary: A fascinating story well told
Review: You know this is going to be an unusual story from the opening sentence, "The angel Gabriel went to the oracle on Mount Sinai, looking for a wife." The prospective wife, Rachel, must be found within six months and time is running out.

Sharon Shinn creates a vivid world and peoples it with characters we can care about. The story is rife with mystical overtones, mystery and action along with a prickly romance.

I was very impressed with the author's attention to detail and her use of language to convey meaning and depth.

All in all a fascinating story well told.

Summary: Wonderfully intricate worldbuilding & intriguing characters!
Review: This book not only has fascinating characters who feel very real, it also takes place in a fascinating world. The author obviously has worked out the history of her world for decades and even centuries in both directions from the time of this specific story, and I would LOVE to see many, many more books set in this wonderful place. I want to be able to explore all of the wonderful things that were hinted at in this novel. I think it's a sign of a very good author and book when it makes you hungry for more! --Isoline M. Summary: THIS IS A GREAT BOOK!
Review: contrary to a "dougsimson" this book is in NO way anything like gone with the wind!! It's a beautifuly woven story of interweaving plots, and where most books end and begin a sequel, this book keeps going with an unexpected twist to it and many surprises a long the way as each strand of information begins to take on a different meaning. It's not really a si-fi kind of book, but with enough imagination to satisfy nearly anyone, even if they are a bit of a realist. This book is a must read , and I applaud Sharon Shinn on a wonderful story. (Gabriel, the archangel-elect must find his angelica,a mortal women to sing with him at the gloria, and he is sure she will accept this news with much enthusism. He finds her village wrecked and has no idea where to begin looking for her. when he unexpectedly stumbles apon her as a slave at a party, he suddenly is doubtful of Jovah's choice of angelica ("can she sing a note?"he often wonders). Rachel, his angelica-to-be has just been offered a chance at

Summary: Unique, romantic, and compelling
Review:

ARCHANGEL is a fantasy about angels and mortals who must live in harmony to please the god, but it does have a very concrete romantic sub-plot. I think the romantic subplot will make this book appealing to the romance fans as well as the fantasy fans.

Gabriel is appointed as the new archangel of Samaria, and he must find his soul-mate designated by Jovah (their god) before the representatives of each region and the angels sing Gloria to Jovah. If he fails, the world will be destroyed by the wrathful god. His soulmate turns out to be Rachel who's a slave. He thinks she'll be honored to be his wife and angelica, but she thinks marriage is a form of bondage just like slavery. What worries Gabriel and the angels is that Rachel must lead the Gloria mass, yet they have no idea whether Rachel can sing or not, but it is considered impolite for an angel to ask a mortal whether she can sing. And Rachel refuses to tell them whether she can sing or not.

There are those who do not want Gabriel to be the archangel. And the conflict between good and evil is very clear in the story. Rachel's desire to punish those who have enslaved her and killed her friends also becomes a strong conflict as her relationship with the angels and Gabriel progresses.

Shinn's prose is clean, and the romance sub-plot is PG-level, (no bedroom scene or foreplay), but the relationship between Gabriel and Rachel grows realistically, and you can really believe that they love each other by the time you close the book. Not only that, you also know that the mortals of Samaria will live in peace and harmony during Gabriel's reign as the archangel of Jovah.

There's a sequel to ARCHANGEL called JOVAH'S ANGEL. I look forward to reading it

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: With the Gloria coming up in 6 months, the archangel-elect, the angel Gabriel can't delay finding his angelica any longer. When he goes to one of the 3 oracles, he is told to go find Rachel, daughter of seth and Elizabeth, age 25 , in a small village in the cantinas foothills, he figures it to be quite simple to go and convince his bride-to-be to come with him. Not so. when he gets there, he finds the village to be wrecked, and abandoned for what seems to be about 10 years. on the outskirts , he find skeletons, all facing one direction, away from the village. Rachel, it seems, must be alive somewhere, or the God wouldn't of chosen her. Rachel has been working as a slave for 5 years since her adopted family, the edori tribe of the marradass, was captured. when offered to be angelica, a position of most high, she refuses . (just before asked she finds out she will be free and working for a friend at a scandelous rate.) Dragged up to Eyrie,Rachel is sullen and sour. And as the Gloria comes closer

Summary: What a movie this would make!
Review: I don't generally ready sci-fi fantasy any more but was looking for something to take to the beach. What a surprise! I never made it to the beach but read the whole thing in about 5 hours - straight through. It has everything - a beautiful headstrong yet intelligent heroine, a handsome stubborn hero, a wise old sage, an evil relative and even music! What more could you want? In fact, treated right - this may be just the vehicle that Disney needs to pull itself out of it's current PR difficulties and make a real old fashioned family movie musical for all ages
