Rating: Summary: I had to put the book down, it was too boring! Review: Kathy Tyers is a terrible writer and I could only read fifty pages into the book! The book was too confusing because of Kathy Tyers lack of telling you where she was talking about!
Rating: Summary: Complicated reading made this book hard to follow. Review: In reading a Star Wars book there are usually things you can expect to experience. The great adventure of a twisting plot and mysterious characters are among these things. "Truce at Bakura" had a twisting plot, sometimes twisting a little too much. Though the epic tale of a struggling military force trying to overcome horrific odds and good winning out over evil did shine through in this book. The complex literature and alienated vocabulary overshadowed all of that. I have heard many people say that they just couldn't get into the plot and eventually stopped reading it because of its lack of adventure. Now though this holds true for many, I still believe that ,when this novel is read fully, the essence of Star Wars can be felt within it. For this it gets an average rating of three stars.
Rating: Summary: This book didnt stack up Review: This book just did not live up to the high standards set by Zahn's books. I suggest you read Heir to the Empire if you want to read a good book.
Rating: Summary: Fair, but not Darksaber material... Review: I enjoyed reading the book, but I enjoy reading action...this book didn't have much action in it...my favorite star wars book is Darksaber because, it is action packed...I couldn't put it down. All that I wanted to do with the Truce at Bakura was put it down...yawwwnnn.
Rating: Summary: this book would've ruled if... Review: everything was taken on a larger scale , hundreds of Rebel and Imperial warships join foces to battle a seemingly invincible foe. The ships in this book were pathetic. everything was done on such a small scale they were laughable. Tyers wasted a great story here. maybe there will be a sequel?
Rating: Summary: This Star Wars book is the best Review: great book because if you like luke, he's going to hook up with someone and there's a lot of action and a whole mess of drama. really worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Ican never put this book down. Review: The first time I read this book I was not impressed with the firest few chapters, but as I read further into the book, I just couldn't stop reading for all of the excitement. I have enjoyed reading this book many times, and think that everyone should read this book, whether they are fond of Star Wars or not.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: This book is incredible... I could hardly put it down... almost read it all in one day!
Rating: Summary: Pretty good, but doesn't match up to Heir to the Empire Review: All right, what's all this stuff about Luke not being blonde? He looks blonde to me! Someone call up Mark Hamill and see what he considers himself! People are also talking about how it was unrealistic for the Empire and the Alliance to team up. But if you read the story carefully, there really was no choice. With the Emperor dead, Bakura didn't have very much defense from the Ssi-ruuvi. Plus, the Rebels couldn't leave Bakura without striking up some sort of deal. And, last, Leia herself said that she had nothing against Empire-ruled worlds, only the Empire itself. To me, this explains the whole deal. Overall, this was a pretty decent book, and I enjoyed reading it. I think some people just need to lighten up and not be so criticizing.
Rating: Summary: Not bad Review: Truce at Bakara was pretty good but relied too heavily on references back to the movies [(things that were said)and didn't contribute nay new memorable dialogue]. Luke's character seemed enitrely out of whack with the Luke that was in Return of the Jedi. He was too unsure of himself. This certainly isn't the guy who went toe to toe with Darth Vader and walked into Jabba's Palace like he owned the place. Still, Tyers did a wonderful job with the space battles, action/character interaction and maintained a good portion of the Star Wars mystique despite the absence of a strong super villian (Darth Vader). The romance aspect of Truce at Bakura (Luke's) was a nice diversion though.
