Rating: Summary: Leaves too many loose story lines hanging. Review: A good book and much better than the last one. However, it does not stand alone well. Like Starwars when Darth Vader gets away -- you know you've got to get the next book to get the rest of the story. And in this case, previous books. And last, the story line was a little to easy on Honor but at least the Peeps get to win once in a while.
Rating: Summary: Webber does it again. Review: I gotta tell you I loved this book. I've read all the H.H. novels and continue to be impressed. The only problem that I have with the EOH is how long I have to wait for he next one. This is made worse by the fact that I am a speed reader. Not only can't I stop myself from reading all the HH books really fast, but I have to wait several months or even a year for the next novel. What a pain! :)HH does it again, escaping from prison and capturing a few Peep ships in the process. She make you want to follow her to hell (or in this case away from Hell). I've always enjoyed reading about characters that make you want to be better than you are. Horatio Hornblower, the Three Musketeers, Captain Kirk, and now Honor Harington (anyone notice that her initials are the same as Hornblower's? Add that to the Rob(e)S. Pierre stuff). With as many obstacles from within her own camp as from the enemy, HH still seems to engender such loyalty in her followers that they would rather die than disappoint her. And she is willing to do the same for them. Add a dash of space battle, some good old-fashioned ground fighting and a little intrigue, and Webber pulls off another triumph. Way to go, David. By the way, when's the movie coming out. Or better yet, a TV mini-series. <chukle>
Rating: Summary: Better try next time. Review: The most disapointing of the whole serirs. If the characters were 2-D in the other novels, these are .5-D? For once, I could not care less what happened to any of the characters. After all this bad, it still built up some interesting background information that can lead to more fun books in the future; just don't make me pay hardback prices for a background book!
Rating: Summary: Honor just gets better and better. Review: The Honor series has kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way. Right before each new book is released I reread the whole series again to be ready. My wallet does not even flinch at paying the hardcover price. Weber's characters are as real to me as my friends and the action and suspense will keep you turning the pages with trembling sweaty palms.
Rating: Summary: Militarily revealing yet unexciting. Review: The book was too detailed and at times lost my interest. The author did progress the military side rather well, showing the technological advances of both sides while showing the rotting inner core of the Havenite political structure. I'm disappointed in Honor's love interest. It will cause a huge problem for both Honor and the other individual down the line IF it progresses. Choosing another individual would have been more realistic without the potential complications.
Rating: Summary: So, is McQueen Napoleon? The series gets better and better! Review: I have loved this series since I first stumbled into it, and can't wait for the next one. As a long time fan of Horatio Hornblower, I love the parallels. Some of the French/PRH characters are easy (Rob(e)S. Pierre for example), and lately I have been pretty sure that Admiral McQueen will turn out to "be" Napoleon. Now that Weber has topped Hornblower's escape down the Loire River, and then some, I just gotta know what comes next! Live on, and write on, DW, I just couldn't stand it if you didn't finish this series.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't wait to find out what happened. Give me more now! Review: Echoes of Honor is one of the best books I've ever read. I enjoy reading science fiction series very much and David Weber's Honor Harington series has turned out to be the best. What makes this series and Echoes of Honor so good is the Honor Harington character. The characters in a story are the most important aspect of a good book. Honor Harington is a great character: she is determined, intelligent, honorable, courageous, strong, and much more. One of the other wonderful characteristics of the Honor Harington series and Echoes of Honor is how accurately David Weber writes the thoughts and emotions of the characters when they are interacting with each other. I want more!!! Give me more now!!! When I read Echoes of Honor I couldn't wait to find out what happens, and now I can't wait for more. I want to know how Honor affects the war!!! I want to be there when she encounters her family, friends, and Grayson. I say again, PLEASE GIVE ME MORE NOW!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: I Love This Book!!! Review: What can I say? Mr. Weber has done it again. No matter how many of these books I read I never get tired of hearing about what happens to Honor. The story here was great - and I managed not to die waiting for it after In Enemy Hands! I think this may be the best installment so far in the series. Anyone who likes science fiction that thinks for itself HAS TO READ THIS!! Now, when can I buy Worlds of Honor?
Rating: Summary: Nicely done, vintage Weber. Look forward to the next one! Review: After reading all the previous books in this series, I found myself anxious to see just what would happen next. I was mildly disappopinted at the beginning, but as soon as the action started it was vintage Weber. Terrific writing style - just what you need in military sci-fi. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Obviously read a different book! Review: Book was full of one dimensional characters, stale situations and too many unrelated story lines. I felt a real sense of "been there, done that" one too many times. I enjoyed most of Weber's previous Honor Harrington books, but the last two have been real disappointments. As always "Echoes" contains some great space battles, but they fail to carry the other 500-odd pages.
