Summary: The Best Kind of SF Storytelling
Review: Having read (and loved) Shinn's first book about the planet Samaria, I was thrilled to find a sequel. Back to a world where angels fly and their song fills the skies, many years after the exciting and romantic events of Archangel. In Jovah's Angel, the weather patterns on meteorologically-unstable Samaria are deteriorating, and the only voice that seems to be hearable by Jovah, the overseeing "deity" of the planet, is that of shy, scholarly Alleluia, now forced by circumstance to play the role of Archangel, taking the place of a brilliant, injured predecessor. And political brilliance is sorely needed on Samaria, as the different factions jockey for top position, as technological advances are made (and resisted), and the weather worsens (and worsens), as knowledge is lost (and regained). Shinn is, as always, excellent in her society-building---she postulates a set of circumstances and characters and then rings the changes, inviting us along to see what happens...and it's a wonderful trip, really an engaging and wonderful book. Not dissimilar to Anne McCaffrey's Pern books, in its basic premise, but rather stronger in its depiction of a social-religious- political cultural matrix. And her depictions of the glories of human song are amazing and original. Very well done!

Summary: Awesome!
Review: I loved "Archangel", but it was nice to have the same setting with a little less of a love story. I liked the way the book discussed the colonist's technology without trashing religion in general. I can't wait to read "The Alleluia Files"!

Summary: A great second story!
Review: I picked up Archangel at a used book shop on a whim, and not since the first DragonRiders of Pern book I read have I been so enthralled. When I found out that there was a follow-up, I was delighted. When I first began reading, I was put off by the abrupt jump in time (Jovah's Angel is set 150 years after Archangel), but Sharon Shinn pulled through. Though the characters in Archangel were, for me, more memorable, this book held it's strong points, including the startling revelation of the reality of the God at the end. This wonderful sequel veered less away from the predestined love angle of the first book, which I approved of, but still had enough character interactions to satisfy. Overall, a highly recommended book that far surpassed typical second-story expectations and leaves readers yearning for the next two, The Alleluia Files and Angelica.

Summary: Amazingly Good!
Review: I quickly got into this book, having just finished Archangel and desperately wanting more of the world of Samaria Sharon Shinn so wonderfully created. As with the first book, I could barley put this one down, although I did not think it was as fast paced as the first. It was still amazingly good. I especially like how she made references to events in the past (book 1) but through the distorted view of history. This was a great book 2 of a trilogy (I often find the second book of a trilogy to be lacking in many ways, but this one did not lack at all!)

Summary: A good read, but nowhere near as good as "Archangel"
Review: I saw the paperback edition of "Jovah's Angel" at my local bookstore and snapped it up. I really enjoyed "Archangel" and was hoping for a similar experience with this book. As with most sequels, I was ultimately disappointed. I enjoyed the return to Samaria, but I thought the plot and characters could have been much stronger. Delilah and Alleya were caricatures instead of characters: the stormy dark angel and the quiet blond. Caleb was drawn a bit better, but Noah was also a cardboard cutout of a character. I will give Ms. Shinn credit for finally resolving the mystery of what Jovah really is.

Summary: Never have I been so enthralled!
Review: It takes a lot for a book to so completely capture my attention as this series did. Ms. Shinn has the ability to transport you mind and body to another world... and then tell you it is really your own! Please, write more!

Summary: Blown Away!
Review: Jovah's Angel focused a little more on the science fiction aspect of Samaria, a land inhabited by a post apocalyptic people. It takes place 200 some years after Archangel and explores the scientific side of how the orginal settlers came to this new world and who or what Jovah (their God) actually is. Deals a lot with faith, technology and a little romance.

I highly recommend this book along with Archangel, Alleulia Files and Angelica.

Summary: Opposites everywhere, but they always work for the best.
Review: Ms. Shinn continues the wonderful romance in this follow up novel to Archangel. Now, she answers more questions about the founding of Samaria, this time with a curious two-Archangel setting. Again, opposites, who find two men they both come to love, who are close, but still have thier differences. The writer can put anything together and make it work! So inspiring! I can't wait to get the next book!

Summary: Very refreshing with an excellent twist of philosophy.
Review: My blurb of approval is on the first book in this series and I see no reason to change my mind about the refreshing issues and circumstances of JOVAH'S ANGEL. I especially liked the juxta position of the main characters, Caleb and Alleya, who were well portrayed...and Jovah! Noah and Delilah were also well done, each in their own way, and Thomas the Edori. I'd like to see more by this author as she has a definite talent for new ways of looking at such old things as "angels." Anne McCaffrey SFWA, Authors Guild Ninc

Summary: Not as good as Archangel, but its alright in its own way...
Review: Oi, I was waiting forever to read this book, but when i finished it, i felt it wasn't as good as Archangel, the whole "Jehovah" thing kinda threw me, i wasnt expecting that..... The characters are not as good as in Archangel, and the plot completely skewed everything from Archangel, it did. (im trying hard not to include spoilers...^_^) It was an alright book by itself, but its suddeny made me think twice about reading "the Alleluia Files". Definitely not up there with Archangel (definitely buy Archangel!) Ja ne! -Sheena
