Rating: Summary: Interesting mix of angels and technology... great reading! Review: After reading and loving Archangel, I could not wait for this sequel to be published. After some initial disappointment that the book is not about the characters that so engrossed me in Archangel, I settled back into this fascinating world. Shinn writes in such a way that she can truly take you to a different place and time - you can see the dingy streets of Breven and hear the angels' harmonies through her evocative prose. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it highly - with a caution to all those who may be expecting a typical sequel that this is not one. The Samaria of Jovah's Angel has changed a lot since the first book, but it is still a place that you will enjoy reading about.
Rating: Summary: The author has already proved she can do better Review: After reading Archangel I found Jovah's Angel somwhat of a letdown. It still had a wonderful plot and well developed characters, however, these charcters were not nearly as strong. Both Caleb and ALleya were much harder to feel for. Neither were as deep as the others in the Archangel.
Rating: Summary: An unusual angel Review: All of Sharon Shinn's books show her wonderful ability to create new, fresh, and believable cultures but this book also displays her skill in creating characters. Alleluia is my favorite heroine in all of Science-Fiction and Fantasy. The female characters usually found in such books are either fainting girls waiting to be rescued or feirce warriors. It is therefore wonderful to finally see a woman who falls somewhere in between -- strong but quiet, self-sufficient but unsure at times. The book is beautifuly written. I had a hard time putting it down not because of the plot (although it it could be very suspensful) but because the writing style was so lovely. I would rank this book even higher than Archangel and that means alot.
Rating: Summary: Loved it even more than "Archangel"! Review: Although I was bummed at first to find the characters in "Archangel" weren't in this one (except in historical references), I grew to love the new characters even more! And the plot is even more interesting in "Jovah's Angel"--the author fleshes out the world of Samaria so now I have a clear vision of it.
This book actually had some parts that made me laugh outloud, whereas I never giggled once in "Archangel." Highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but hard to top Archangel! Review: At first I found the jump of 150 years from the time of Archangel difficult to adjust to. Once into the book I did enjoy the return to Samaria & learning of the changes that had occurred. While I did find this book good-I can't help but wish for a return to the lives of Rachael & Gabriel. Perhaps Ms. Shinn will decide to take us back in an upcoming novel & allow us once again to share in the lives of the characters' lives we became a part of in Archangel. I'm looking forward to reading The Alleluia Files. Ms. Shinn has a great talent with words!

Rating: Summary: Better than the first (Archangel) Review: At last, some science fiction elements. But the book is still very much turned towards romance (again, love story between angels and humans). After 600 pages, we start feeling confortable in this evolving world.

Rating: Summary: An engrossing, thought provoking, entertaining tale! Review: Christmas, Hannukkah and Ramadan all in the same week was the perfect time to read this book. The imagery of angels flying, the hopes and fears of angels and mortals alike, held my interest through the whole book. The seemingly impossible tasks of finding and keeping love while uniting vastly different peoples in a struggle against human nature and the weather proved to be a spiritual experience in this time of joy and celebration for a great number of people on our earth. I would recommend this book to anyone from 10 to 100 years of age. It was superb.
Rating: Summary: Very Good for a First-Time Shinn Reader Review: Having never read the Archangel, I had no preconceived notions regarding this book. I had no expectations though the reviews from Amazon made me borrow it. I must say that it was a captivating book to read. The characters slowly grew on me and made me care about what was to happen to them. The book switches periodically between the perspectives of two people, the mortal Caleb and the angel Alleya. I think the author developed these characters well, creating unique personalities that people can relate to. The ending was a surpise though I can't say that I have not heard it before, I believe I have read another book with the same type of idea and of course, watched a blockbuster movie that dealt with the same idea. Dealing with religion is often a tricky subject, and in certain parts of the book, it felt as if I was not reading a novel but a philosophy book. However, these ideas were nonetheless interesting and added to the uniqueness of this book. It was a highly entertaining book with several plot lines that will make you want to turn the page. Thumbs Up!
