Rating: Summary: Beware: This Book Is Absolute Garbage!!! Review: I've been an avid fan of Feist's work for many years and I own each and every work he's published. I can say without a doubt that this sorry excuse for a book isn't worthy of his name. It's like Feist has gotten it into his head that he can publish any old piece of trash and people will buy it because it has his name on the cover. What's next from him? "Raymond E. Feist's Aimless Drunken Ramblings on a Cocktail Napkin"? He should stick to writing books and let no-talent hacks like Alan Dean Foster write novelizations of his games. The entire book read like he was just jotting down what he saw on the screen as he played the game. The plot was put together like a bunch of individual scenes and the only continuity was the characters wandering into each scene. Existing characters had nothing added to them and new characters were shockingly shallow - very atypical of a Feist book. The sense of grand adventure he usually provides is non-existent. This book seemed like the fantasy version of a bad network spinoff like "After-MASH" or "The Ropers". If the rest of "The Riftwar Legacy" is as shoddy as this, you can be sure they won't be taking up any space on my shelves.
Rating: Summary: I plan to buy more of his books! Review: I recieved this book for Christmas '98 and finished reading it in January. It's the first book I have by this author and I've read it cover to cover. I've also played a bit of the game, and it's much longer than the book in my opinion. It's a great book and I recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Great scenes taken from the computer game but not much else Review: Feist's books have been a really pleasure to read and I have read some books even more than once but this work based on my favorite computer game "Betrayl at Krondor", is really medium-level junk. Of course, characters and the plot is great as usual but everything else "the fat" in books which contain the most pleasure is not included in this novel. I hope Feist understands that next books could be more larger and detail-giving than this.
Rating: Summary: It's a more literary version of the game. Review: I think this book is great because it allows you to get deeper into the plot, which is already a great one. I have only read a few of his books but (Magician : Apprentice and Magician : Master) amd I think this book deserves to be part of the Midkemia Series. Even though I am as young as Jimmy the Hand the first time he appears, I could read the book fairly easily. Congratulations, Mr. Feist!
Rating: Summary: A Perfect Adaptation of the Game Review: 3 years ago I bought the game Betrayal at Krondor and loved it. Last month I bought this book and loved it. Some others complain about it being exactly like the game... WELL THATS THE POINT! It is exactly like the game and that is why I liked it.
Rating: Summary: New, yet old. Review: This book was well written, however only to those who've never played the game. For those who have played Betrayal At Krondor (a great game I should say) will find this book rather boring. To me, I practically skimmed it as I know the story so well. If there is a second book to the series though, it should prove better to everybody. I can't degrade the book because it was based on a computer game, so I base it on how well it was written.
Rating: Summary: Excellent in some respects Review: Althoug the story does not go with the over all stories of midkemia it is a great story. It has to do with the lifestone at sethanon and the Moredehel. The story is, as usual for fiest, good and I would recomend it for anyone who wants to start reading about the magical world of Midkemia.
Rating: Summary: Better than "Shards", but improvements are needed Review: I thought this book was a definte improvement over Feist's last book "Shards of a Broken Crown". Still, not quite up to the standards that I was used to seeing from him in his earlier works. I'm encouraged that he seems to have corrected the main mistake in his last book, a badly splintered storyline, but the main plot is still not very exciting. However, I'll defintely read the next book when it comes out.
Rating: Summary: Feels mechanical and one dimensional. Review: As an avid reader of Feist's previous series, I was thrilled to find this. I'm not a game enthusiast, and was disappointed in the one dimensional, linear approach to the plot in this novel. I actually felt like I was watching someone playing a video game, picking up documents or artifacts, acting on them to move ahead, etc. Feist is a really good writer, and his prose flows easily. This series has potential -- he just has to separate his video game mentality from his literature mind set. A book deserves more depth than a role-playing video game. This is more like a game. It felt like the outline for a game, but was still fun to read.
Rating: Summary: A splendid reworking of a previously created story Review: Return to Krondor is a wonderful read. Brilliant imagery and easy to read prose. My only reservation for giving this novel a 5 star rating is the fact that Mr. Feist wrote this book on a story written by authors at Dynamix Inc., a Sierra Studios subsidiary. Although it obviously took talent and imagination to create this book, all the events that take place, and some that don't, were not truly from the mind of Raymond E. Feist. Only set in his brilliant world of Midkemia. That may be why some of the earlier on-line critics could not place it on the same level as some of his earlier works. All in all, it's a good read worth your time if you are a fan of Feist, and of the game "Betrayal at Krondor".
