Rating: Summary: Decent book, but not nearly Feist's best!!! Review: this book lost a lot in that Feist had to follow the game's guidelines, and it left very little room for Feist to use his own creative prowess. Whoever gave Raymond Feist the idea to write this book, I'll never know, but at least Feist makes an interesting story, if not the deepest book in the world!! P.S- Don't get me wrong, Feist is my favorite author ever, but I just had to leave an honest (if harsh) review....
Rating: Summary: A BOOK ABOUT A COMPUTER GAME???! IT'S NOT EVEN THAT! Review: Is this supposed to be a book about the computer game?? Well, if it is, it's even sorrier than the one they have for DOOM! I mean, gimme a break! It's really just the text from the computer printed out, with a few extra details to make you think it's better than the game. It's not! This was not worth the 17 some dollars charged for it! You could get the computer game and the same story for about 9 dollars, or even for free off the internet. Feist, this was really pathetic!
Rating: Summary: It really sucked. Trust me, it really did. Deserves a 0 Review: Not only was the book unnecessary, it was costly for what basically was just the storyline of the game retold in a very sorry fashion. It was pathetic, really. There were a few thoughts and observations that weren't in the Computer game, but only a few. I mean there were some obervations made of Makala that weren't made in the game, and a little more info about the plot, but it was still not worth making a book out of. If you're going to continue producing books with such low quality, I suggest you hand the torch over to someone else that appreciates the characters you have come to care less about. In the future, I would suggest more Pug and less characters that will you'll never see again once the book is over.
Rating: Summary: In my humble opinion. Review: I am an avid Raymond E. Feist fan and have read every book he has written, in my opinion he completely obliterates any other fantasy author including Tolkein. The only reason that I have found this book to be slightly weaker then others by Raymond E. Feist is because one of my favourite emotions while reading is not knowing what will happen to a specific character, and since I read this after I had read all the released volumes in the Serpentwar saga, I was fairly clued up as to the outcome prior to my reading it. I recommend this book for true fans (even though true fans wont need my recommendation anyway) and I recommend that the new feist fan read the books in order, stopping before the Serpentwar saga and having a squiz at this one thus not knowing the outcome of the characters and being able to enjoy it fully. I give this book a rating 5 as this system has been designed to measure lesser authors.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Not as good as REF's other books though Review: This was a very good book but it wasn't as good as his other books. This is because it was kind of depressing.
Rating: Summary: 1st book of the Riftwar Legacy is loosly based on the game. Review: The first book of the Riftwar Legacy is loosly based on the computer game Betrayal at Krondor. Some characters we know from other books such as Aruthur, Pug, Gamina and Locklear others such as Gorath we learn about for the first time. As it is set between A Darkness At Sethanon and Prince of the Blood. The people who have read these books can expect the outcome of some characters. The books explores each of the characters well and is a great start to a new series.
Rating: Summary: Worst of the Midkemia series Review: Though the computer game was great, the plot just doesn't translate into a good book. This volume can be easily skipped by all but the most avid fans of the Midkemia series.
Rating: Summary: Wait for the sequel Review: This book is about a computer game. One that I have loved, and became my favorite one. The problem is that this is something I already knew. Its kind of boring to read if you already know how it ends. My suggestion is to wait for the 2nd book. For Mr. Feist.. I still loved youre writing. You're a truly gifted writer. I know because I am too a writer and I know how hard it is to create a great plot. But if you're planning to write a 2nd book about a game also (Return to Krondor) than I suggest you don't. Though I loved Return to Krondor I'll surely stay away if the 2nd book is also a review of a computer game. The great thing about the book is the Feist touch. You can see how a great writer sets up a plot, develop a character, and many more things. There is only one thing about Feist I can tell... that he is one hell of a writer. Thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: Bad book, good author. Review: I have come to expect a high standard of writing from Raymond Fiest and was greatly disappointed by the almost juvenile style that this novel was written in. I got the impression that this was a very early piece of wtiting that had been dusted off and published without any attention being paid to present writing style, or the high standards that Mr Fiest's readers have come to expect. It might make you money Mr Fiest, but it won't make you fans.
Rating: Summary: Mediocre Review: This book was written like a computer game. Not really surprising since it was based on one but computer games do not make good books. I have never play the game myself , though I intend to, and looking at this book from a completely objective standpoint it just wasn't very good. I really enjoyed reading "Magician" and the serpent war saga but this book doesn't hold a candle to any of his other works. It seemed as if it was written for a thirteen year old. Perhaps I have been spoiled by reading books by people like David Eddings, C.S. Freidman, Robin Hobb and Robert Jordan, just to name a few, but I think that the writing of this book could be improved a great deal. Despite how it might sound I did enjoy this book and while perhaps I wouldn't buy it, it is worth a look.
