Rating: Summary: My Ascending Review Review: amazing. Although not as emotionally driven like Mortalis, or as Heroic as the first Demon wars trilogy; This Book sets its own bar of standards. Each time I read a book from this series, I get so wrapped up in it, its hard to put it down. This novel Deepens your disgust of the elves, it heightens your feelings of friendship for pony, and it creates respect/pity for adrian. you will not be dissapointed. I can't wait for the next books of the series, because this one ends on such a note, that it is worthy of its predecessors! visit www.rasalvatore.com
Rating: Summary: Another Great Chapter in His Own World.... Review: Bob has a great talent and eye for combat and strife, making each battle come to life, but in this series he's also had each character take on a new level of life prior to his other books. This is the Fifth in the series so the established characters have great depth and fullness to them and when they hurt, you do too! This is Salvatore story-telling at its best. Get the whole series today and you will enjoy this intriguing magical world and the people who inhabit it!
Rating: Summary: I was worried about revisiting the land of Honce the Bear... Review: But Bob brings you back in like you were a citizen of the realm. Pony is in grief for her lost love, political scheming all around, and in the shadows, the Albelican Church, and even a former member of it waiting to pounce. The haughty elves cannot be easily dismissed for in their staunchness to not be a part of the world, they do a wrong that is so glaringly evil that it can turn your stomach... and when it turns against them, you almost feel like cheering. And yet, that evil is now loose in the world, and you still hope beyond all hope that evil will find it's own true path toward the light. You hope anyway. Matt
Rating: Summary: Another installment in a captivating series. Review: First off, this is the fifth book in a series despite the fact that it is book 1 of a trilogy. Though Mr Salvatore always makes his books complete stories, I highly recommend starting with The Demon Awakens. I actually waited almost a year to read this one (I usually try to wait for the whole trilogy to be out before starting a series), but caved last month in a weak moment. Like the rest of the series, this book was great reading. One of the fun things about RAS's writing, is that he always shows what's going on from the POV of 'good guys' and the 'bad guys'. And guess what, the bad guys aren't running around maniacally laughing and stroking their gen-Xer goatees either. They're compelling to follow and you're reminded that good and evil is all a matter of personal perception. But, since most of the readers (we hope) are of the camp that good guys don't do dastardly things (such as murdering people and manipulating entire populations - oh wait, this counts most politicians out of our good guy category =P), we are left wondering who is going to 'save the day' in the next books. What do I mean, you ask? Guess you will have to read the series!

Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: Great beginning for the Second DemonWars saga! Beter than the previous installments! Salvatore ROCKS!
Rating: Summary: A fairly good read book, but highly improbable Review: I am very much aware that with fantasy books, more so than any other genre of literature, you must be ready to set aside what one would take to be reality. Magic and all the things that come with it really do not fit into our perceptions of real life. I state this outright cause the "villians" in the book should really look into playing the lottery with the amount of good fortune they have...or whatever the fantasy equivalent of that is. This does not make this a bad book, but when you are finished reading it do not be surprised if your reaction is "yeah...right!" One of the worst offenses is the joust part. I would tend to think that those who have jousted in the past and even practiced it repeatedly would bear some kind of advantage over someone who never has. Yet, in one pass, the person in question has the whole event figured out? Sorry, I am not buying it. In addition to this, the final scene of the book, which I will not reveal is absolutely the most ludicrious thing I have ever read. Anyone who has read George Martin's series knows what should have happened in that throne room. The biggest threat to the throne, especially when you consider who has the king's ear, and that person is allowed to ride away? Do not think so, but there are two more books to write. My final two quips with this book is that magic is used way too much, to the point where it is actually annoying. Mind you and not in combat...but in effecting the overall outcome of the book. Instead of the villians intelligently coming up with a plot to manipulate the people necessary to cause what they want to transpire happen, they merely whip out the magic gemstone and there it is. People in this world also seem to have no sense of what common sense is. Certainly if you have a thought or vision in your head of something happening, or an idea you must go through with it or believe it...despite that your senses tell you otherwise. Also, many parts of this book there are items, creatures, etc. that are of "magnificent" quality. This horse is old...but magnificent, this weapon is and so one. It just seems to get repetitive. Again, I must stress that it is not a bad book at all, and probably serves as a setup for what is to come in the following two books. However in a work in and of itself, I think the book needed to be a lot longer, in order to rid itself of the endless stream of coincidental things that just keep happening throughout the book. The premise of this book is good, and I will no doubt read the next one in the series, to find out if there is a better explanation forthcoming. On its own though, it might be too much to swallow for a lot of people.
Rating: Summary: Ascend to a great story!! Review: I have read every one of Salvatores novels, except the Tarzan book, and this one by far wets the appetite for more. Character interaction has become a great joy, perhaps in place of mindless action. The whole book is mainly a setup for the next one but it moves on in such a way that you can't wait for the characters to meet each other throughout the book. Caring about the "villians" in these books is almost as important as liking the heroes and there is plenty of that here. Some fantasy and science fiction novels almost read like a history text book nowadays and get stale very quickly when you could care less about anyone. The ever 'pragmatic' Salvatore has evolved quite a bit as a writer of more mature themed characters and story lines. Sure De'Unnero resembles Entreri in a lot of ways but I guess when you make some of the best fantasy villians out there, that will happen. Overall I highly recommend this epic novel and wait for more to come !!
Rating: Summary: only the good die young... Review: I just finished "Ascendance" and I agree that it is a good read. I must say that it "is not" the best book in the series. Those whome have read the first trilogy, will know to what I refer. The action sequences are always captivating. It's only sad that the "evil" parties seem to be glorified in this book. It's a real kick in the butt fot the good guy's. How does "De'Unnero" get away with so many murders? Alas, "RAS's" true hero. ...I see "Transcendance" available now, so off we go then...
