Summary: Fantasy at its best!
Review: This book takes place in a celtic-type place where witches and mages were in high regard and had great learning centers known as towers. Then they were betrayed. Witches were hunted down and killed, every last one. Now the few left must lead a life of secrecy or die.

I loved this book. It was AWESOME! A bit graphic in the torture scene, but otherwise a PERFECT book. I highly recomend it.

Summary: Pretty standard stuff
Review: I, for one, personally cannot see the fuss about this book. It seemed to me to be an average fantasy with nothing really new to recommend itself. All the generic elements of a traditional epic fantasy were present without much alteration(see Diana Wynne Jones' Tough Guide to Fantasyland to learn just how derivative this book is). Furthermore, I didn't feel there was enough of a plot resolution at the end; the torture scenes weren't much fun, and the characters weren't particularly appealing. I preferred Wind from a Foreign Sky by Katya Reimann, as it had better characters and world-building.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: This book is beautiful. I love the dialect used (Just the right amount of brogue). She describes the scenery just enough to give the reader a picture without overdoing it. The plot is captivating. The characters are well rounded and most importantly not carbon copies of each other. As far as similiarities to Wheel of Time the only thing I see is the use of the five elements of magic. I can't fault her for this they are pretty logical elements to use and if you read much fantasy you'll see them A LOT. All in all READ THIS BOOK you won't regret the time spent. If you like this book and can stand a little more violence check out Morningstar by David Gemmell

Summary: The Witches of Eileanan series is wonderful!
Review: The Witches of Eileanan has everything a fantasy novel should have and much, much more. This is the most incredible fantasy series I have read. Kate Forsyth develops her characters to such an extent that I feel as though I know them personally. There are many detailed stories woven together to form this tale and each is as interesting as the next. The compelling storyline keeps me yearning for more. Book one and book two were so wonderful that I felt I couldn't wait for the third one to be released in the USA. I bought the existing three book from an Australian bookstore and they were all wonderful. The Australian books included maps and a glossary which are excellent companions to the stories. Kate Forsyth is currently working on book four. I can hardly wait for it to be released so that I can find out what lies ahead for Isabeau, Iseult, Lachlan, Meghan and all of the others in Eileanan. Kate Forsyth also has great website at www.ozemail.com.au/~kforsyth. This website includes details about the series as well as a pronounciation guide. I encourage everyone to read The Witches of Eileanan series.

Summary: I can't put it down! It is like I have two lives.
Review: This book is so wonderful. I have a hard time finding books that are at my reading level and stil capture my intrest, this is the one, it is heaven on earth! I have two lives: one is a little girl living in Illinois, the other is a sorceress in Eileanan! I recomend the second book, The Pool of Two Moons, and I can't wait for the last book!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: magical and engrossing
Review: the most wonderful, magical books I have read in years. The characters lived while I learnt of their strengths and weaknesses. I found myself thinking in their dialect. Any atrocities were quite believable, and while horrific were not sickening at all. loved these books and want more!!!! please.

Summary: Kate Forsyth is simply the best!
Review: I'm a fantasy addict and have read heaps but I think Kate Forsyth is the best I've ever read! Hard to believe she's so young - I read in an interview that she's only 32 so I reckon she's got a huge future ahead of her. I got so lost in her world I never wanted to come out and I just wish she had more books to her credit. Can't wait for the 3rd in the series!!!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Thoroughly enjoyed both books in this series
Review: I have also read The Wheel of Time series and I so disagree with Tansy from the US. What parallels? The Witches of Eilenan books stand on their own merits. This is the kind of series you keep for your kids to read one day. - Jill
