Rating: Summary: The book 'Dragonclaw' Review: Well i have just finished reading Dragonclaw and i was breathtaken by the end i just wanted to continue reading the sequel. It was my first fantasy novel and iam addicted to it now. The book is magical, stirring the emotions through the creatures and characters in the book. I fell in love with Isabeau i couldnt wait to see how her future would go and was gripped with suspense many times especialy when the Grand Questioner was in the story. I found all the characters were intrieging and iam fasinated with Ishbel and Iseult. I must say expected alot when i saw this book and got more than i ever expected out of it, this book has everything Magic, evil and intriege i was sent somewhere else when i read this book. I cant wait for the sequel and iam keen to see how Isabeau goes in the seuel and if Meghan survives Maya's evil intentions. This book has changed me alot and i have nothing but praise for the Australian Author Kate Forsyth who's doing Australia proud.
Rating: Summary: Really good Review: I think this was a really awesome book, even if the dialect is odd. But you get used to it after a few pages of it.....only to have "ken" thrown at you. It means know, but thats hard to figure out for a while. ANyway, i liked this book because the plot is good, and the characters are well developed. I think that the rest of the trilogy will be really good.....i got pool of two moons last night and its good so far.
Rating: Summary: A fun read... Review: Fans of female protaganist fantasy should enjoy this book. Although it uses tried and true fantasy techniques, the writing is engaging and the characters well-fleshed out.
Rating: Summary: Great Start Review: I've read the first three books to this series and I must say that they are spectacular. This book is a great introduction to the series. You meet all of the main characters in the series in this book and all the past events of their world, Eileanan, are descriped in full. If your a fan of heroic fantasy don't wait another day to get this book.
Rating: Summary: A must read for fantasy lovers Review: A captivating read that I couldn't put down. I love the way Kate writes through her many different characters with such different personalities. The whole idea of Witches and Dragons in a fantasy novel is great and Kate makes it seem as if it was meant to be that way. You will be enthralled with Isabeu and they many important characters not to mention the wonderful creatures. You will definitely want to read the whole series after reading the first book. The magic is passionate and the characters are portrayed to love them or really hate them and some to make you think. Give it a shot you won't be dissappointed. Barry Rhodes
Rating: Summary: Wonderful and Powerful Review: I thought this book was so wonderful. The writing was powerful. If you enjoy reading Fantasy books you will love this one. I found it to be just so hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: A pretty good start to an excellent series Review: Hi, I'm Miranda and have good things to say about this book. This is the first book in Kate Forsyth's series 'The Witches of Eileanan' and is a great start, paving the way for a strong plot and addictive series. For most fantasy series, the first book is crucial, you have to fit so much in while not loosing the readers intrest, and I think this book made the cut off. Forsyth throws a lot of the history to the setting (Eileanan) at you, but stick with it, because you will regret it if you don't. By the second chapter the story heats up and you get drawn in so fast. This series has a vivid setting with an intresting celtic like culture, this book has vivid characters to match with contrasting personalities that you can relate to sometimes. I felt especially connected with Isabeau (one of the main characters) the most. In this book, Isabeau the apprentice witch, sets out on her journey to join the 3 peices of the key to restore magic to the land of Eileanan which has been outlawed for so long. Mean while Magrit o' the Thistle (one of the bad guys) makes plans of her own for Eileanan, and Isabeau's teacher, Meghan o' the Beasts, seeks help from the Dragons and finds another suprise... Isabeau's twin. It is very hard to capture this plot in one paragraph, but I tried my hardest :) Ah yes, and for those Robert Jordan readers who have been warned not to read this book for its "similarities" to the Wheel of Time series, only close-minded WOT fantasy readers will not enjoy this book. I saw a similarity or two myself, but I disregarded it, for I personally found Kate's series much better, in plot and writing. (only my 2 cents, sorry Jordan junkies)
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This is one of those books that you can't put down. The characters are well developed and interesting. I couldn't wait for the second book to come out. (See the Pool of Two Moons).
Rating: Summary: It grows on you Review: For those of us with a Wiccan background the story of the persecuted witches is particularly moving. Kate Forsyth obviously has a good knowledge of all things Witchy and this gives the magic and traditions of the characters a wonderfully real texture. Despite this the characters lack the depth I would have liked and the dialogue is a bit trite. However, by the last page this charming little tale captured my imagination and I look forward to the sequel.
Rating: Summary: You must not live without this book! Review: The Witches of Eileannan is an experience not to be missed. Enchanting, bewitching and enthralling are just a few of the words that come to mind. To my surprise, I was unable to put this book down. Brutality and beauty compete at every turn to create the level of tension needed to hold a complex world together - a delicate balance that at times makes Forsyth's fantasies resonate with reality. The borders between fantasy and our "real" world appear so flimsy that concepts such as witchcraft and dragons do not seem so fantastical after all. I have read Pool of Two Moons and Cursed Towers and as Forsyth develops her worlds, meticulous research and innate wisdom enhance this resonance. More importantly, its a damn good read!
