Summary: Fantasy Par Excellence!
Review: Kate Forsyth's work has drawn me in like the proverbial moth to a flame. A sweeping, yet accessible, plot and exceptionally well developed characters. If you like to be kept guessing and occasionally step outside the somewhat predictable Jordan-Brooks-Eddings genre, well worth a read.

Summary: A Novel Fantasy for those with Novel Minds
Review: I first stumbled upon the second book of the series at my local library when I was searching for readable fantasy. With all those other books out there that were either generic or just boring, I didn't expect much from this one (since it wasn't as highly publicized as Jordan or Eddings). However, I realized how wrong I was after reading it. Although there were some similarties to Jordan's WoT, this book had characters that weren't -just- good or evil. The magic, mystery, characters, and riddles were all woven into each chapter beautifully to keep me wanting more.

The use of dialect also enhanced the reading and kept the book realistic to it's Scottish roots. The fantasy books that just keep to the traditional-fantasy-Medieval-kinda-thing gets a little repetitive... so the use of dialogue helped. For those who couldn't decipher the words, all it really takes is a little reading in between the lines. Actually, after reading The Pool of Two Moons (Book 2 of the series), I found myself thinking in Scottish Brogue, which was quite silly when I was trying to type an e-mail to my friend with words like "Och" and "ken."

The Third book in the series did contain a lot more warfare than I would've liked. However, fans of Forsyth would know that she wishes to show the readers about Scottish history and their persecution for Pagan beliefs. With conflicting religions in Eileanan (The Coven Vs. The Bright Soldiers), war is bound to happen. The warfare just makes the book more realistic and enticing than typical hero-wins-easily-with-magic-bad-guy-loses fantasy.

The females in this story also appealed to me when I started reading the book. The three main-female characters Isabeau, Meghan, and Iseult all have conflicting personalities, and Forsyth does wonders to show how these three females trudge through life. This is not only a fantasy book, but a "coming-to-age" book for young readers. This book simply proves that not everyone can have happy endings.

To conclude this long review, I'd just like to say Forsyth brings a lot of reality, history, and magic into her works. Why not read it as book equal to Jordan's WoT series (which I found quite tedious after awhile) instead of seeing it as a copy of the series? All three books have their strong and weak points, like all books. But this series definitely has more strong points than weak. People will definitely have fun reading this series, and may Éa bless ye all.

Summary: Witches of Eileanan Trilogy
Review: Wonderful character development. Plot very inventive, twisting and turning quickly. Full of beautiful descriptions, wonderful and fanciful creatures, scarey villians. Never boring. An excellent read for long Wintery evenings. I look forward to sequels. Many characters were left with future possibilities that are very tantilizing.

Summary: A great book but just a warning
Review: Let me say first this was a capivating book truely enjoyable. I loved learning about the sisters differences in traditions and in up bringing, their cultural differences were also very intriging. The author goes in great detail to teach you the inner personalities of her charaters and does a great job of. She also leaves you little clues so be sure to pay attention. Once you get used to the Scottish accent and the terms used the book, the reading will be great fun. Now comes the warning, the book doesn't have an ending. It just stops. I stayed up till 2am to finish it and thought 'oh great the last chapters are missing' then realixed, nope that was it. Don't get me wrong the book is great and I am on to Book Three today, but be sure to have Book Two ready and waiting when you finsh book one. Book Two does have more closure than one, I'm just holding my breath about Three. Happy reading.

Summary: Not Much To Hold My Attention
Review: To Each Their Own

Kate Forsyth is an excellent writer with wonderful descriptions and beautiful scenery, but it's not my kind of book. I must admit right now that I only got halfway through it.

Why? Ms. Forsyth actually ruined the book for me. She told me that little Isabeau would never have a beau. Simple as that. I like my adventure with at least a handful of romance, thank you.

Otherwise, I would have finished. Just wanted to give those readers like me a quick heads-up!

Summary: could have done so much better...
Review: I so wanted to like this book! It sat on my shelf for a few months, and i was convinced it would be a treat.... sadly, it had me gritting my teeth by the end of the first chapter.

Somewhere, buried beneath the accents which dominated every page, was a good book trying to get out. It could have been so much more than it was, but when faced with shallow stock fantasy characters who all spoke in an indecipherable mock-scottish burr, it didn't stand a chance.

The main emotion Isabeau provoked was to make me want to throttle her for being so stupid; and if one more person said "Och, aye ken she be a bonny lass," I really felt i would have screamed. It was all so trite.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't dreadful. But there was so much potential there which just was wasted. The unsubtle hint that the concept had its roots in scifi was unnecessary; the fantasy concept didn't need justifying, and it just added to the general clutter.

I wouldn't mind reading the sequels - but i'm not about to rush out and spend more money on them. But other people obviously love this stuff, so maybe i'm just fussy..!

Summary: Blessed Be
Review: At last At last a novel about the magick of witches and by and Australian author non the less. Being an Australian native I am very proud to see this success. Kate brings mystery and magick, intrigue and tragedy, of malicious deeds and the passion for justice against persecution on to pages that seem to turn themselves. Her characters have a depth and believability that transports you into their lives and into their cause. The creatures she creates builds a yearning to know more of her imagination and the roles these creatures play. I am waiting impatiently, wondering what other stories she has in for this world. Having already read the first two books i am impressed at how the story continues flawlessly from the first to the second. I had just bought the third in the trilogy but because it has been years since i read them i also bought the first two to re read, and i am very glad i did.. it makes the path to reading the third in the trilogy all the more tantilizing.

Summary: One of the worst books I have read recently
Review: The author does not seem to be able to develop character or plot in a way that engages one's interest. The book is poorly written and to be frank, I would not buy it again. I have only given the book one star because if I do not do so the computer will not accept the review. The book does not merit even half a star.

Summary: Dragonclaw the 2nd best fantasy I have ever read
Review: I have read hundreds of fantasy books but of all of them I havn't read any (except for The Lord Of The Rings) that has kept me on the edge of my seat spellbound as much as Dragonclaw. Right from the start you fall in love with the way it is written and You will love the lush characters and find yourself hateing people like Maya one minute then sympathise with her the next. The book has a plot full of exitment and anyone who loves the fast moving fantasy full of magical creatures and sorcery will not find a book better than dragon Dragonclaw.

Summary: My review of 'Dragonclaw'
Review: I have just finished reading this book and when i finished it i just wanted to continue reading the sequel it left me spellbound. I found i fell love with the main Character Isabeau and was intrieged by her every movement. The book was marvelous full of magic and enchantment that sent me to another world. This book was my first fantasy novel that i have read and iam addicted to it now. Iam very interested in the characters Iseult and Ishbel iam interested to hear about them in the sequel. The book has it all magic, evil and intriege. I have to read the sequel the book kind of left you wondering and there was so many different charecters involved that it left you facinated no matter what stage of the book you were reading. Iam facinated to find out what happens to all the chacters especially Isabeau and i want to know if Meghan escapes from Maya's evil plot. I have nothing but praise fo the Australian Author Kate Forsyth who is doing Australia proud. The book was wonderfull i enjoyed every page and i would encourage anyone to have a read of this book!
