Rating: Summary: Good...could have been better. Review: I will have to agree with the writer from London(March 30th entry). While the book was very good in general, the details on the main character were scant vis-a-vis Baralis...better the name of the book been "The Evil Sorcerer." Even Milli's father was fleshed out better and he is second tier. Liked the tavern discussions between the two guards! Tawl and his troubles were well written as well. In the end, I will be getting part 2.
Rating: Summary: Hilariously funny, amazingly written Review: The characters are teriffic, the setting's wonderful, and the plot is enthralling. The two palace guards will make you laugh 'til your stomach's sore (so don't read this in math class...) The ideas are original, it isn't some worn out plot with new characters. It has many sub-plots, but each of them is just as detailed as the main one. Maybe I'm not a very eloquent typist, but what I'm trying to say is: This book is GREAT! I LOVE IT! And the following ones are just as good. This is amazing author here, with new, drawing, funny, ideas.
Rating: Summary: ALMOST A WINNER Review: The plot was there, the idea was great...but the execution sadly lacking. Language was sometimes difficult to believe as being in that world (e.g. atrophy a word mostly used in medicine). I thought Jones was a little crude at times and I was extremely annoyed at the ending which is designed to make me buy the sequel but which has put me off Jones for good. Also, her character development of Jack the hero was too shallow...I ended up being more sympathetic with the villain Baralis, whose rich character was skilfully crafted.A great shame. Such potential.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down! Review: This book was excellent! The best book I've ever read! J. V. Jones did a really good job writing this story...KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, JULIE!!!!
Rating: Summary: NOT YOUR TYPICAL"knight saves princess" STORYLINE Review: A extremely interesting tale mixed with humor, suspense, and mysterious characters. Highly recommended. Sometimes the book is a slightly icky with the vivid goings on, but the story was intriguing.
Rating: Summary: I loved the book. Review: I thought Baker's Boy was one of the best fantasy books I've ever read. It ranks up there with Jordan, Goodkind, Anthony, and McCaffrey. It was exciting and interesting.
Rating: Summary: A Spectacular Combination of Romance and Drama Review: This book is absoluetly fantastic! J.V. Jones' did a wonderful job of mixing the wonders of magic with the thrill of adventure. The book goes from one life story to the next, and eventually, they seem to collide.
Rating: Summary: Excellent story!!!! Review: I thought "The Baker's Boy" was an excellent tale well told. This book paints a vivid picture in your mind and is relatively easy to read. Anyone looking for an intriguing fantasy story, you've got to read "The Baker's Boy." You won't want to put this book down! In fact, I think it deserves ten stars!! Great job Julie!
Rating: Summary: YUGH!!! Avoid, avoid, avoid.... Review: I don't even know why I FINISHED this book, such a bore! Filled with gross remarks, boring characters that never really live (exept maybe the old man whose name I don't remember, the one that is killed by that boy who calls himself a knight). Don't bother to waste your time....
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: I think this was a really good book. The charecters were convincing, and there was a fair amount of action. I'm a novice in this kind of book, I usually read Terry Prattchets, but I think this was great. The ending was a bit abrupt, but at least theres another book to follow. The only bad thing about it was the cover. Isn't Melli, if thats who its meant to be, dark? But other than that I think it's a great book.
