Rating: Summary: No recognizable plotline Review: A book needs a plot. That's just common sense, isn't it? Well, I read half this book before giving up in total disgust, and I couldn't find even a TRACE of one. Just because this is the third book in a trilogy does not mean that a reader should have to go back and read the other two books just so they can figure out whats happening in the final volume.I bought this book because it looked interesting. You know, witches, fairies, that kind of thing. But from page one, all the characters did was prance around with their cute little titles like "the gatherer of souls" and commit various random acts of violence and/or sugary kindness. I think Anne Bishop has grown complacent with the success of the Black Jewels trilogy and come to the conclusion that people will read whatever she writes, even if it's crap, and then beg for more. In this instance, part of the blame may also be placed at the feet of the publisher and editor, who doubtless contributed to the failure of this novel. Bottom line: This book sucked. If you want to read REAL dark fantasy, try Kushiel's Dart.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant ... very entertaining Review: Although I haven't yet read the first book Pillars of the World, I have read The House of Gaian and Shadows & Light ... the last book in the trilogy is wonderful. Anne Bishop is able to explain the relationship between the Fae and the witches, and give us more about their history. The book is filled with little comics, some romance, and the preparation of war. The reader is compelled to keep reading, its really hard to put down. Absolutely wonderful, I would definately recommend this triology to others!

Rating: Summary: Well written, but... Review: I am a great fan of Anne Bishop's Black Jewels series, and I immediately bought this trilogy when it appeared. However, although this series is more polished in style than the Black Jewel books, all the romance, humor, and passion is missing. Also, the series switches gears in the second and third books; the main characters in the first book, Ari and Neal, are hardly in the second book, and are barely named in the third. In short, there is less focus in this series than in the Black Jewel books. In the future, I will be borrowing Anne Bishop's books from the library before deciding to add them to my collection.

Rating: Summary: Satisfying end to the series Review: I looked forward to this final book in this series and I was not disappointed. There were a number of things I really liked: The origins of the Fae are explained. The arrogance of certain Fae is paid back in spades. The witches emerge as a powerful force. The wiccanfae are explained and a very interesting wiccanfae character is introduced. This book is darker, no doubt. There is some touches of romance and the comic touches come from new characters, for example the funniest comments (in my opinion) in the entire book are spoken by an exasperated Selkie lord. I was greatly disappointed with the loss of one character whom I liked very much, but a rebirth for that character is foreshadowed. I also did not care for the amount of loss and physical pain endured by some of my old favorites, but this book is about a war and it was not entirely unexpected. The previous books built up to this book, and while I can see why others were displeased, I found it to be a fitting end to the series. There are loose ends, but there is hope. I enjoyed it and have gone back and re-read all 3 books.
Rating: Summary: House oF Gaian Review: I loved this book. I think Anne Bishop is a wonderful writer who really captures you and pulls you into her stories. This whole trilogy was just as great as the Black Jewels trilogy, which i also strongly recommend. If you want a great book, which really holds your attention, and makes you addicted to its wonderful story line, this trilogy, The Black Jewels Trilogy, and any Anne Bishop book will do it for you!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Ending. Review: I read the first book of this series over a year ago, and enjoyed it immensely. I never read the second, one, but when I read this book I felt really good about how Anne reviewed the second book. She explained how all the Fae and the witches had worked together and even continue to work together to destroy the THE DESTRCTOR, a man who hated witches so much, and detested magic of any kind. He created NIGHTFLYERIERS, a hated combo of both. Now the Characters, all great ,even though I had a confusing time remembering both I finaly caught on and rooted for all of them. But I wanted to know if Jean was ever caught she was mentioned again, and finally Dianne, and Lucian the Light-Bringer, and Moon Goddess. I sort of felt for him, I think he truly loved Ari but he didn't know to tell her,and finally Dianne did she finally find what she was looking for? My only question of this series. I'm going to get a hold of the second book series soon and catch up. I highly recommend this fantasy series, it's great.
Rating: Summary: More disturbing than the previous books Review: I recommend it, if merely to have some closure on the series. However, overall, I found this book much darker and more disturbing than the other two. Some of the scenes were really horrific, especially towards the end. And I thought that, unlike Pillars and Shadows (and the Jewels trilogy), House of Gaian didn't have enough romantic/light/funny moments to balance out the darkness. I finished the book late at night, but was too disturbed to get any sleep. On the positive side, there was some interesting information on the history of the witches and the Fae and some interesting new characters were introduced. Although it left some questions unanswered, I was fairly satisfied with the conclusion. It was a good series, but wasn't nearly as good as her Black Jewels Trilogy.
