Rating: Summary: Damn people with ADD Review: Many people who read this tend to think that it was very slow at the beginning but better at the end. I thought it was great all the way through, there was plenty of "action" throughout. Of course, not bone crushing kill kill kill action. I also think that Fizban added a great comic relief, not that the intro was that serious. The series and everybook in it is great.
Rating: Summary: Very good, but... Review: OK, so, there is the bunch of completely similiar new characters. Then there's Zifnab - one of the worst characters I have ever read about. And then, there's this feeling, that Weis and Hickman have made a great story, which has material for about three books, but since they're greedy people, they make seven books out of it! This book has nothing to do with the Dragon Wing! All the characters, except Haplo, are new, and the questions left open in the first book, are still left open in this book! So, the book has all these bad things, and so I can't understand why I like it, and think it's a damn good book!
Rating: Summary: An unnecessary book Review: Taken by itself, Elven Star would probably deserve more then two stars. As the second book of a series, however, it fails utterly. It is one of the two books that Alfred (one of the protagonists of the series) does not appear in at all. It is also the only book in which Haplo (the other protagonist) does not exhibit any sort of character development (one of two actually, but that's because he's fully developed by the last book). There are also two books in which the central plot isn't advanced at all (the other one is Dragon Wing). So Elven Star has the distinction of being the only book in which Alfred doesn't appear, Haplo doesn't exhibit any sort of character development, and the main plot (which centers around Alfred and Haplo, their races, and the Dragon Snakes) isn't advanced at all. It has the even more dubious distinction of being the first book in which Zifnab appears (despite moments of importance, Zifnab is one of the more pointless characters of the series). Admittedly, the four mensch characters will be somewhat important later, but not as important as some. In short, the entire book is devoted to developing four fairly minor characters to the point where they can play a roll in the series three books later (and come to think of it, it's their ship that's important, not them).
Rating: Summary: Zibnaf is sOoO funny! Review: The beginning was a little slow, but it was REALLY good! ZIbnaf is so kewl. In my opinion, this is second in the series only to Fire Sea.
Rating: Summary: Best book of the series. . . Review: The second book of THE DEATH GATE CYCLE is in my opinion the best. This is the most action packed of the four stand-alone novels, and I felt that this was the most thought out of the six different worlds inhabiting the series. The world of Pyran is a giant jungle, and the strangest thing is that the world is inside out, and the stars are really giant citadels that create light. In this novel you also encounter the deadly Titans who are quickly destroying Pyran's inhabitants. This book is a must read for any true fan of fantasy. It is easy to follow, and action packed to the very end
Rating: Summary: read this book Review: The second Death Gate book was great. Even through I preferred Dragonwing(the 1st of the series) I still got hours of enjoyment from this book. Very funny with loveable characters. I must read for all Weis/Hickman fans P.S. Fizban and Zifnab are the same person. Their names have all the same letters and in Elven Star Zifnab while trying to find a name for himself calls himself Fizban and then remarks that he can't use that, it's been done before.
Rating: Summary: Hilariously funny!! Review: This book contains some of the best characters I have ever read about! It also embraces ironic circumstances throughout the entire novel. Again, like the first book in the series, a slow beginning, but it is necessary in order to depict a well put together setting. Once you get into the story, you will be kept entertained by the different plots and thrilling sequences which tend to follow. The only downside is that usually the chapter ends right before something is about to happen, and you have to skip the next few chapters in order to discover the outcome. Definitly worthwhile.

Rating: Summary: Better than the first!!!! Review: This book has it all. Love, romance, death, greed, hate, Zifnab(a.k.a Fizban) and a little dog too! The characters are not as original as in the first book, (Dragon Wing) but they are still enjoyable and I really care what happens to the characters. I can not wait to read the next book!
Rating: Summary: Second book of the death cycle Review: This book takes place on Pryan, the world of fire. It's Haplo's second time going through the Death Gate, and he has know idea what he is going to encounter on the second planet. This book has romance, action, deceit, etc. This book introduces new monsters called "Tytans". They are the size of the forests in the book, the weight of a handful of dragons, and 100x stronger than the stronget human. They are responsible for all the action in the book. There is one good battle where Haplo takes on one of the Tytans. The first quarter of the book is slow but after that, it's continous action. A good read for fantasy fans.
