Summary: "Elven Star" was the book that kept me reading Death Gate.
Review: "Elven Star" by Margret Weis and Tracy Hickman was a very captivating novel. This book is what kept me reading the Death Gate Novels. Although the first book was good it didn't quite have the livliness of the 2nd book. The reason for the livliness is because of Zifnab (my Favorite character). He kept the book funny and alive! This book had it all susspens, love, and Tragedy

Summary: Elven Star -- should be eleven stars :)
Review: A very well read book, I have listened to the first 3 books now its read buy Victor Garber. At first it seems as if he may be a dry person and then he begins to story tell very well. If you like the books youll love it even more being able to sit back and enjoy it and never getting those eye strains :). I turned my weekend 5 hr one way trips into what seems to be an hour or two.

NOW IF I COULD ONLY FIND THE LAST 3 Books ON TAPE ARRRGGGG!!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: ugh! Avoid at all costs.
Review: Boring. Trite. 1-dimensional characters who you don't care about in the least. A boring story, boring antagonists, and some of the most feeble attempts at humor I've seen. The constant references to Tolkein & such only remind you how bad it is. Run, don't walk, from this one

Summary: The least excellent of this stellar series,
Review: But that doesn't say much, the others are all so amazing. Elven Star introduces an almost entirely new cast of characters from Dragon Wing, (the first volume of the series), including Zifnab, the latest incarnation of Fizban, the lovable, loony wizard from Dragonlance. He is an enigmatic character, maintaining depth while still being a hysterically funny comic relief character. This book shows Weis and Hickman's sheer joy in writing, which they impart to the reader beautifully. This book is not as good as the others, the cast of characters is slightly less stellar than the first volume, though this mars the book only a little. Worth reading, and even if you don't like it as much as the first, get through it, and then you hit the real treat in the third volume, Fire Sea, which deserves more stars than are available to give.

Summary: A mistake?
Review: Continuing the Death Gate series with the story of Pyran, the realm of fire, Weis and Hickman seem to slip a little here. There is almost nothing to the plot, and it is nearly devoid of action. Another point I disliked was Zifnab, who has appeared in other Weis-Hickman books like the Dragonlance (Fizban) and Starsheild (Zanfib) series. Sure he's funny, but he sticks out, and seperates from the plot. He spoils the mood of the series. Luckily, he dissapears from the 3rd and 4th books, but he returns in the later books, most unfortunatley. I wouldn't say that he spoils the sereis- it is still great. It's just that he is very distracting.

Luckily, Weis and Hickman redeem themselves with Fire Sea, the next book in the series.

Summary: A great story in the next world of the Death Gate Universe
Review: Elven Star brings readers into Pryan, word of fire. Although it may not seem to have mutch in common with the first book, readers will see that it plays an important part later and is tied in with the rest of the story. It is a continuation of Haplo's journey through the four elemental worlds. New charictors are introduced and hummor and romance are added to the rather dark plot. A great book and I can't wait to read the entire series again.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Amusing and confusing
Review: Elven Star has a character unlike those of the other 6 books in the Death Gate series. It has a child-like appreciation of what is amusing and lighthearted in life. Zifnab and the dragon are a fantastic comic creation and the book does wonders in furthering the Death Gate story. Best of all, Elven Star never takes itself too seriously.

Summary: A wonderfull book!
Review: Elven Star is a GREAT book,as captivating as the first. It's a bit slow at first,As others have said before me (like book 1, Dragon Wing), but once you read for a while it's hard to put it down.Yesterday I was up all night reading it and I just finished it today. "The Death Gate Cycle" series has been great so far(I've read two books), and I'm sure it will continue this way.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Don't miss this one!
Review: Elven Star is definitely one of the best books I have ever read. I think that Elven Star is better than Dragon Wing, especially with Zifnab to add some laughs along the way. This book has an incredible amount of suspense that kept me turning the pages. The characters have a lot of depth and I really cared what happened to them.

Summary: a definite read
Review: Elven Star may start a little slow, but definitly ends with a bang. We are taken to the jungles of Pryan, World of Fire, where the elves and humans live on the tops of trees and everyone is constantly fighting. Paithan, an elven weaponsdealer, hooks up with two humans, Rega and Roland, who are smugglers trying to take advantage of the elf. Their journey to the dwarven kingdom, however, is cut short by the Tytans who are basically killing everything in sight because they're lost. So the elf, two humans, and a dwarf they picked up along the way have to go warn everyone before it's too late. Along this plotline are romances, betrayl, racism, and all the other good stuff. Meanwhile our character Haplo is back, with his dog, and gets irritated with the crazy old wizard Zifnab who's jealous because he's not Gandalf. Oh, and I can't forget the dragon that goes with the daft old guy. They basically cause a ton of hilarious trouble in the home of Paithan's family. The author's throw all these characters together very well, with everything a fantasy novel should have. It ends with everyone trying to escape certain death by the hands of the Tytans, but to find out how you'll have to read. Suffice to say it is an excellent book, and is definitly the best one of the series.
