Rating: Summary: best book ever!!! Review: I absolutly fell in love with this book! I could not put it down for a second. I was captivated by the tales of magic and love. I would recommened this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy, history, and love.
Rating: Summary: A Book for the Imaginitive Review: Daughter of the Forest by Julliet Marillier is an amazing book. The author, although new, is has a great way with words. The book is based on a child's story but with more details. The story takes place in Ireland, probably around the medieval times and is about a young girl who has to go through a terribly hard challenge for her brothers. While doing so she is being torn apart between the countries which are fighting against each other. The story is about strength, love and fear all in one package. It would probably be considered an adventure book. The book provides great descriptions of the characters and a strong plot. The down side is that some parts may be difficult to understand because of its wide vocabulary. This, although based on a children's story, I would recommend to mature readers probably middle school and up. I feel this way because the book contains violence, strong language and some sexual content, which may be inappropriate for young children. Altogether is a wonderful story and will be loved by many including myself. -Sasha Dantchenko
Rating: Summary: It will keep you in suspense! Review: What can I say about one of my favorite books of all time? Read it!!! Even if you are the type that thinks "fantasy, thats not for me", this book is much more than a fantasy book. The author, Juliet Marillier, is a master at storytelling. I've given this book to three of my friends, saying "just start it, you will be completely hooked by the first 20 pages." It grabs you right from the beginning. Mariller really creates a beautiful world full of magic and wonder. But the heart of the book really revolves around the heroine, Sorcha. Her journey through the book is haunting, and you will constantly be in awe of her loyalty, intelligence, and love which helps her to face each trial. The greatest thing about Sorcha is shes just a normal girl put into these extreme circumstances. Another aspect of the "Daughter of the Forest" that I really loved was the celtic mythology and stories that Mariller seamlessly weaves into her story. I found myself retelling the stories at bedtime to my niece and nephew or around the campfire to my friends, and you will to, they will have a great affect on you. The story is a take upon the timeless tale of a young woman (Sorcha) whose brothers are turned into swans by an evil sorceress (who happens to be her step-mother), and it is up to Sorcha to turn them back into men by weaving each one a shirt out of a weed that is rough and hard to weave, during which time she cannot utter a single word. There are many twists and turns and you will stay up all night waiting to find out what happens. This book has minor language (only like 2 bad words), and 2 PG-13 scenes. Other than that its a wonderful tell that will keep you in suspense till the end (thankfully its a trilogy)!
Rating: Summary: An Unforgettable Tale Review: This book sucked me in at the very beginning and I didn't put it down until I finished. Ms. Marillier's writing is exquisite and the tale has everything you can ask for. There is just so much that was good about this book that I find it difficult to say anything except read it!
Rating: Summary: A book by it's cover. Review: Really, I bought this book because it had a really interesting cover. Once I opened it I knew I had found a book of great substance. Marillier brings the story and setting to life in such an imaginative way, and the characters are as realistic as any could be! I have to admit, it follows the classic 'Snow White' synerio, but the author transends what either of the Grimm Brothers could conjure up.
Rating: Summary: Sexual Assault Survirors Be Cautioned Review: First of all, let me say that this is a VERY good book, but there is one part that may be difficult to read, especially for those who have suffered similarly. There is a graphic rape scene in this book, and therefore I caution survivors to keep them from pain. I recommend skipping those pages, as the rest of the book is wonderful; the story is fantastic, the characters are each a treasure in themselves. Strongly recommended, but with caution.
Rating: Summary: Sexual Assault Survivors Beware! Review: Excellent book, well written and captivating. A few words of caution: GRAPHIC RAPE SCENE!!! I liked the story enough to have someone else read over that part to find the end and then continued, but I couldn't even read it all the way through. VERY rough. The rest of the story is wonderful, but be forewarned.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: I loved this book, and the series. I picked it up in the book store for a bit of summer reading. I was wraped up in the story and the characters before the end of the first chapter. I love the way that Mariller combines romnace and fantisy together. She tells the relations and the emotions of the charaters richly, and does it in a magical but realistic setting. It lacks the magical creatures of Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings, but makes up for it in the rich way that she paints the characters. This is a read I recommend for anyone.
Rating: Summary: Akin to other bodice-ripping romance novels Review: Not bad writing but skip it unless you like sappy, weepy, romantic melodrama. This book should have Fabio on the cover.
Rating: Summary: Best book i have ever read Review: This book is the best one i have ever read. It has everything anyone could ever want in a story,it has romance, action, suspence, sadness, all in all this is the greatest book, Let me tell you, I love the Harry potter books, and this book tops them all, you will not be sorry, buy this book now!!!
