Rating: Summary: Star-Crossed Romance--Manga Style! Review: I was a little skeptical. Here I was an adult reader checking out a high school romance manga? That was when I picked up the first volume of MARS, Fuyimi Soryo's 15 volume manga series. The verdict? By the end of reading the first I couldn't wait to find the second. To date I have the first seven volumes and am eagerly awaiting the eighth. The basic storyline is pretty familiar: Kira Aso is a shy, but talented art student. Rei Kashino, a motercycle-racing, wild-living bad boy. The two are about to meet. But if you think this is a plain bad boy- good girl romance with a cast populated by light-hearted high schoolers, think again. This is no sitcom school story, and doesn't read like one. Kira's emotional intensity strikes an unfamiliar chord in Rei, one that he is drawn to. The bond between them is based on something that their peers can't begin to comprehend, leading to anger and violence. Both Rei and Kira have their personal demons to deal with, and their relationship is not an easy one. If you don't have any interest in romance or manga, MARS probably isn't for you. But for what it is, this series is exceptional. I wouldn't recommend this for very young readers, since the violence is at times intense-although not graphically so, and the sexuality of the characters is defined for a teenage maturity. The artwork is amazing --combining a compelling sense of movement and moment with beautiful imagery and simple structures. The artist moves from multiple boxed images on a page to single breath taking pictures. The smooth and consistent quality here is one of my appreciations of the series. I will admit, the eyes are overly large in this manga, but that is artistic style and I found it easy enough to accept once I fell into the story. For those unfamiliar with the traditional manga format, this series reads from right to left and can be a little disorienting for those not used to it. Check the back of the volume for the chart provided on how to read the manga page in this form. I personally prefer this format over for manga over the westernized (left to right) publications, it simply feels truer to form and style. While there is no fantasy, tech, or sf involved, the story is a complex read and the graphic quality of the manga is excellent. Readers who have encountered and enjoyed shoujo manga series such as Paradise Kiss and Peach Girl, will definitely want to give this a try! Happy Reading! ^_^ --shanshad
Rating: Summary: T h e B e s t ! ! ! Review: I was blown away by this Manga. It's a typical love story with a Rei (a motorcyle riding bad boy) and Kira (an artistic quite good girl). Their love story has lots of obstacles. Revealing secrets from both of their pasts. I think it is for more mature readers, it does have many violent scenes and also mild sexual situtations. The art is amazing. The expressions are so very real at times. After reading other manga that are sugary sweet, this one is a delight.
Rating: Summary: there's better things to read... Review: I'd never heard of this before I picked it up. The first thing that I really noticed was the artwork - the people in this have the biggest eyes I have ever seen in anything, manga or anime. Even the main "heart throb" character has large eyes, framed by eyelashes that would make most girls jealous. I decided to ignore all that and give this a try anyway. I almost didn't finish it, because I couldn't understand what Kira (a shy student who's good at art) could possibly see in Rei (the heart throb I mentioned). Granted, this is the first book in this series that I've read, but it's only book two, so you'd think there'd still be redeeming bits of his character showing through. Instead, he spends much of the book either not caring about anything or beating people up. I might keep up with this series, just because there were hints that Rei was going to change, but so far it doesn't look too promising.

Rating: Summary: AMAZING READ FOR MANGA LOVERS! Review: Intense, Emotional, Romantic, and oh, so suspenseful. Those were just a few words that describe the Manga MARS! I have read up to #9 so far and believe me I am so going to get the rest when they come out. The MARS series you could say is very much like a soap opera for teens, but it has something to it that makes none Soap opera lovers want to read it. I hate soap operas, but when I read MARS I couldn't put it down. Each happy moment made me smile and each sad part made me cry. Kira the sweet, shy, and quite artist meets Rei when he asks her for directions to the Hospital. Kira knowing Rei's reputation as being the "Playboy" and "Badboy" of her school stays quite and instead draws Rei a map forgetting that she had a drawing of a mother and child on the back. Rei, though does realise the drawing and keeps it not knowing who Kira was. School restarts and Kira and Rei end up in the same class. Rei remembers her and returns to her the picture. Kira then falls for Rei when she sees him kissing the statue of Mars. Romance then blooms, but many problems are in the twos future, including jealous ex-girlfriends and the nightmares of the past. The MARS Series is a deffinite must! So stop wasting time and BUY IT ALREADY!
Rating: Summary: IT'S THE BEST, IT'S THE BEST MANGA OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Man, this only let's me give it five stars, I think it deserves 100 stars!!!!!!!!! Okay, I picked up a book, this Christmas and then just couldn't put it down. I kept getting more and more and then i was done WAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! Alright, but anywho, I'm an author so I go for plots more than art. (but the art ROX) The plot is so great with all your twists and turns. When you see it you think it's just your typical good girl, bad boy romance... NOT TRUE!!!!! Sure it's a romance manga, but it's not just about appearences and all that junk, it's about deeper meaning, and I just loved it. So, if you're looking for a manga this is the one to buy, by the time you end it, you won't want it to be over!

Rating: Summary: Familiar Yet Unique Review: MARS is about the crossing of paths between an outcast girl and a rebellious guy. Sounds familiar? Maybe so. This story line has been the basis of many works. This manga reminds me of the book/movie "A Walk to Remember." However, MARS has something about it that sets it apart from the stream of good girl meets bad guy stories. First of all, it's a manga. Second, the way the two protagonists meet and how their association builds is quite entertaining. Third, the art is so real. That's saying something because it's hard to capture emotions and feelings in a drawing, more so a manga drawing. You'll know what I mean when you read it. This is such a sweet and serious manga. It's very emotional and that is exactly what it wants to be. Fantastic.
