Rating: Summary: The true definition of SCI-FI Review: When I first read this book back in 93, I was amazed at the depth of plot and character development that is usually rare in typical SCI-FI novels. I have yet to see a cross of pure alien humour (ie. Douglas Adams) with pure speculation (Star Trek) with pure scientific detail (Crighton). I haven't come across anything like it anywhere. A must have for the personal library.
Rating: Summary: David and Golieth meets Star Wars. Review: Everyone loves a hero, and never before has there been a hero like Jonnie Goodboy Tyler. The Psyclo empire all but eradicated mankind from earth in a single barrage of poison gas, not for conquest, but for ore and wealth. Jonnie begins the story living amongst the 30 or so human beings that are in existance in North Americal in the year 3000. Through an endless set of improbable, but exciting and fun events, Jonnie not only frees himself from slavery to a particularly evil Psyclo but also moves on to take on the entire Psyclo empire. As if that weren't enough of a challenge, wait until we meet the bankers of the universe who own the debt on the planet. Wow, this is good old fashioned science fiction fun!
Rating: Summary: Just plain old Science Fiction...and fun! Review: No frills, no magic, no supernatural beings here. This is a solid science fiction novel, with evil aliens who have conquered the earth, with practical aliens who will side with whomever has the money (or the deed to Earth), and with an honest to goodness hero in Jonnie Goodboy Tyler. There is even a tasteful and chaste love story. It pushes 800 pages in the copy I have, so there is an investment in time. Its worth it...pure fun
Rating: Summary: This was one of the damn best book's i've ever read. Review: I've always enjoyed science fiction books, but some lack detail, or have no plot. When I first saw this book, I thought it would drag on because of it's size, but after reading, I found it was totally entertaining, and never had a dull moment. L. Ron Hubbard knows exactly how to piece together time, places, and event to come out with, what I would definetly call, an awesome story
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Sc-Fi Book Of Our Time Review: Be warned, you are about to embark upon the most exciting journey of your life. Set aside all other distractions, cancel all appointments, refuse to go out on Saturday night, eat only when you're stomach starts complaining and most of all, wash your hands. You wouldn't want to soil the object of impending joy. Settle into a comfortable chair and prepare to be astounded because if it's eye-opening action you want, if it's heart wrenching exhileration, horror and adventure you wish for, then look no further than this brilliant book.
There are few science fiction creations which convey such a powerful sense of wonder and contentment than Battlefied Earth. Once you start reading, once you begin the journey of Jonnie Goodboy Tyler, Terl and the host of other impecable characters, you won't want to stop. After all, nothing you could possibly do on this planet, nothing could compare to the seemingly unending rush of scenes and situations contained within. You read the characters, you live the characters and most of all, you EXPERIENCE their joy, their sorrow, and their triumph. L. Ron Hubbard has created a masterpeice, some might say, a small miracle. Do yourself a favour and read this book, you will not regret it.
Pure entertainment.
Pure exhileration.
Pure reading pleasure.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: What a book! This is without a doubt one of the best books I have ever read, mixing in an unforgettable blend the sci-fi of Star Trek with the adventure of Indiana Jones. I have never been a huge fan of sci-fi, but WOW! This was a huge, sprawling, ambitious opus that delivered. An extremely enjoyable, fun ride through the universe. Great
Rating: Summary: A saga that never sags Review: "Man is an endangered species," begins this masterpiece of pure science fiction. The hero is a HERO and the villan makes Darth Vader look like a Sunday School teacher. The story is exciting and suspenseful with quite a bit of social commentary that fits in nicely. One of my all time favourites
Rating: Summary: A book not quite all that it's cracked up to be... Review: L. Ron Hubbard can write, but for some reason chooses not to in Battlefield Earth. What he places there instead is phony, unbelievable melodrama and humanocentric garbage that is as about as realistic as a three-dollar bill. Yes, one man can go from becoming an illiterate savage to hero of the galaxy, but it's not as likely as Hubbard makes it seem.
Rating: Summary: It has it ALL Review: I read this book thinking of Star Wars, what I got was Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Aliens, the fifth element, 2002A;a spce odyssey , Star Ship Troopers, Cliff hangers from every show, the triumph of the Rock quintrilogy, hey even a little wild wild west show downs every now and again! This book was incredible , and I was quite amazed on how Hubbard wrote the words, painting pictures in my mind, and hearing the music in every sentence. THis book even has its OWN soundtrack!(I really want it!) Plus the cd-rom is great, and I hope to read some of hubbards works some other time... read this book!!!!!!!It will amaze you beyond the amazement you will ever experience you ever had
Rating: Summary: A Must Read for Sci-Fi Lovers Review: The last book that was able to keep me in front of it for 3-400 pages at a time was the Tolkien Trilogy. And then someone introduced me to Battlefield Earth. Hubbard really weaved an incredible story of a future some may say has already occurred. Be prepared for a major dose of treachery and evil; courage and determination; and an intense desire on man's part not to be enslaved
