Rating: Summary: One of the best Sci Fi books ever!!! Review: I read this book two years ago and loved it, I couldn't put it down. I just finished rereading it for the second time. Do yourself a favor and read Battlefield Earth. If you are looking for one of the best scifi books ever, look no further.
Rating: Summary: This is possibly the best book ever written. Review: People may stop and stare when they see "a Sci-fi book, possibly the best book ever written". I was absolutely amazed at the characters created, the emotional output and sense of identity I could establish with the characters and situations (even though I have not experienced the year 3000). The writing is what enamoured me. It was a fast action three day reading experience which left my work place yelling and screaming at me because I could not put this book down. For three long days I carried this book with me everywhere I went and if I had to wait for someone else to drink at the water fountain I would try to devour another paragraph. Perhaps the most amazing feature I found with the book is that when this book ended it ended. There was no stone left unturned each character that I had dwelt with and lived their agonies and joys ended. I came away from the book having hope for mankind and no further attention on any aspect of the book outside of wondering when I should reread it in case I missed something. I originally read this masterpiece in the mid 80's and have reread it at least an additional 10 times since and each reading gives me more to think about and the same rapture I had when I originally read the book. Even if you have no like or love of science fiction you should read this book just to find out how a book should be written. If you are so uninvolved with life that nothing reaches you this book can find away to touch you. If you like drama, adventure, romance, comedy, tragedy, history, geography, politics, business or science there is something in this book for you. The only books/authors that can come close to this work of art are some of the classical writers of yesteryear (Dumas, Dante, Shakespeare). I always suggest this book to people and they seem to think I have jumped in the pool a few too many times without any water in it when I lump Hubbard in with Shakespeare but I hate to say it Will comes in second best in any comparison to this work and! I am a Shakespeare fanatic.
Rating: Summary: Hard Core Sci-fi at its best. Review: This book ranks up with in my opinion the five best books/series ever written. The other four being The Millennial Project; How to colonize the galaxy in 8 easy steps(nonfiction) 2001/10/61/3001, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and The Swiss Family Robinson (no snickering please). A friend of mine tried to get me to read this book for about 6 months and I finally broke down and borrowed a copy. The first hundred pages are about as exiting as the climax of a normal book then it starts to get interesting. The last time I read this book I did it in one weekend in 30 hours, a personal record. Read it its awsome.
Rating: Summary: Went straight to the brain. Review: Not much to say really. I loved it!!
Rating: Summary: Long live Jonnie Goodboy Tyler! Review: This my favorite book of all time. I still have yet to find anything that can even be compared to it in any shape or form. If you are looking for a good read this will keep you up all night wondering. Wondering if Jonnie will make it out alive, if the Psychlos will destroy mankind. To find out what happens you have to read this excellent piece science fiction.
Rating: Summary: The best I've ever read, by far! Review: I've read this book over 6 times, it never seems to get old. The beginning starts off slow, but once you get to the action, it's impossible to put down (I stayed up till' 2:00 in the morning reading this one). This is a must!
Rating: Summary: BE Battles Oppression with Stunning Ease! Review: I would have rated BE as a 20, but the scale doesn't stetch that far.Now ... I wonder as to some reviewers' claims that this story is not deep, and whether they understand anything about real life at all. LRH has written an excellent allegory into what sociopolitical forces are at loose in our world. Indeed, he has analyzed the trenchantly evil drives that motivate many of the military minds and the rich and powerful who run this world; and he clearly exposes the heart of corporate banking, and without any exaggeration or clumsiness. I mean, think about this: who are the banks that funded the weapons buying that enabled the Serbs and Bosnians to almost wipe each other out? Much can also be said for the nations who sell to the psychotic despots of backward countries military hardware. This is just one of the hundreds of eye-opening truths brought out in this book that really lay it on the line for you to pick up and understand. This is an important book to read, if only for that reason. And if you're a radical independent thinker who distrusts the present form of goverment (And who doesn't right now?), consider this book a primer. It's also an advanced course on how old party politics work and continue to work to this very day, including the venality and waffling that goes on within the UN. Incidentally, if you enjoyed the poltically corrupt depths outlined in LA CONFIDENTIAL, this BE book is a must read. BATTLEFIELD EARTH makes LA CONFIDENTIAL seem like a game of Old Maid in comparison! Grab BE at the bookstore today! Better yet, go to Amazon.com and order it soonest!
Rating: Summary: Old Fashioned Sci-Fi at it's best Review: It's been a while since I've read Battlefield Earth, but after glancing at some of these reader reviews I can feel the ol' stirrings coming around yet again. Battlefield Earth is pure science fiction from one of the old masters, and shows what LRH could do when he wasn't busy pontificating (don't get me started on his 10-book "Mission Earth" series). Despite its imposing length the book is almost impossible to put down, darting from plot twist to plot twist while telling the dramatic story of mankind (an "endangered species" on a conquered earth as the story opens) fighting for survival at impossible odds. Just when you think the bad guys are defeated, the plot launches into a new direction, with the victorious humans realizing that the defeat of the psychlos was just the beginning. Battlefield Earth isn't too subtle, and if you like your sci-fi "deep" you might be a little turned off by BE. But if you want an action packed good vs. evil nonstop slugfest, and don't mind a string of sleep-deprived mornings at work, then this book is for you.
Rating: Summary: The reviews tell the story. Review: The best SF adventure story I have ever read. A no brainer to read. Great for long travels.
Rating: Summary: The best SF novel ever! It captured me from page one! Review: Battlefield Earth has no comparison. It is simply the best SF/Adventure novel I have ever read. It sings of the possiblilities of man's future and triumph. This book captured my attention from page one and didn't let up until page 1000+. It had more plots twists and turns than I have ever seen, and left fireworks of excitement in its wake. This book could lose the glib reader easily, from its many changes in direction of the story and its unpredictable conclusion. For the true fan of SF, however, it is simply one hell of a ride! I had a hard time putting it down. It kept me reading until all hours of the night. Don't be intimidated by its size, I have yet to read anything that moves faster than this one!
