Summary: Battlefield Earth - aaarrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh
Review: Reader beware. This is the Dianetics author who continues to pump out material even after his death several years ago. I have attempted to read a couple of tomes of the Mission Earth series but first read Blubbard in this marathon reader. I have read better Junior High written sci-fi. The pace and development is agonizingly slow. The characters are stereotypical of pulp sci-fi and comic book standards. And all of this is spread out over 2,000+ (or so it seems) pages of bluster. The book would've been condensed to about 90 pages by any competent wordsmith. I found the Mission Earth series similar in lack of depth and infantile story line and could only read the first 2 1/2 books before selling them. L. Ron reads like a Robert Heinlein wannabe but just cannot muster the same level of wry humor, plot development, or imagination. How anyone could be interested in making a movie out of this is beyond me. John Travolta, Dianetics cult member, will try his hand at bringing this bag of hot air to the big screen. Hopefully, he has completely rewritten it.

Summary: One of the Best All time
Review: Don't let the author fool you....this novel is EXCELLENT! The novel's beginning leaves you grasping at straws to figure out what has happened to the planet Earth. Follow the trail of one man as he meets unknown environments that he has never experienced, but we all know is just the husk of our former society. The novel may drag in the beginning, but once this book gets moving...it never stops. This book is a page-turner, and I highly recommend this novel to any fantasy or sci-fi reader. But please don't think this is a scientology novel!

Summary: One of My All-Time Favorites Books!
Review: I held off reading this book for a while; because I wasn't interested in what I thought would just be a subtle sales pitch for Dianetics. I was wrong. This is a terrific old-fashioned heroic yarn that is part Western, part Adventure, and all Science Fiction. I've re-read it several times. And, I've given more copies to friends and co-workers than I care to say. I now even own a complete unabridged reading of this book in mp3 file format so I can listen to it while driving or working too! There aren't many books in my home library of thousands of books that I would care to revisit as often as I have this book. The only down side I can see, is that being an old-fashioned (very male oriented) story, means that the female characters have secondary roles; but, the story is too good for that to bother me. It's also one of my wife's favorite books too.

Summary: Could this book be any worse?
Review: I had to abandon this absolutely VAPID bit of trash after forcing myself to read six or seven hundred pages. It was monumentally stupid, and worth the price only because I got it for free. Johnny "Goodboy" Tyler? Can we be more inane?

Summary: A highly entertaining book! And, no, I'm not a Scientologist
Review: I'd like to start out by saying that I'm NOT a Scientologist! In fact I was a bit wary of this book because Scientology. ThankfullyI found NO traces of it in this highly entertaining book. It's VERY much like Star Wars in that it's not the deepest Sci-Fi ever (Or even close), but it is still VERY entertaining.

Summary: average epic... would've been more with less!
Review: Three stars! Easy to explain : This book was too long for its content. And surprisingly enough, its main character [Jonnie Tyler] was sadly under-developed for a figure that lasted nearly half a million words! On the other hand, Terl, a Psychlo who captured and trained Tyler, was a joy to know. This epic story could have been three, 250 page books...easily! I would entitle the first one "Jonnie Goodboy Tyler." The second, "Terl of the Psychlo Empire." Finally the third, "Economics, the Final Voice when the Breathe-Gas Settles." In short, a fun start and a long way to the finish line. I'm glad to have read it! Take the opportunity to read Leigekiller! [Just so happens to be a three book epic]. -owz!

Summary: An example of how science fiction should be written
Review: I read this book many years ago, when I was still in high school, an enjoyed every page. If you are a true reader of Science Fiction, you will enjoy this masterpiece. The book is long, but by the end you will wish that you still had another 1000 pages to read. If you are considering watching the movie, do this great author a favor read the book and see it in your "mind" first.

Summary: Watched the movie preview...
Review: My book is old and falling apart. I read the whole entire book again and it was still great! It covers everything to interplanetry politics. This is my all time favorite book. I will watch the movie, however, if you haven't read the book then watching the movie first would be sacrilege. The book is over 1000 pages long. Obviously a movie can't encompass the original story of the book, unless it is 40+ hours long!

Summary: Very Shocked
Review: I am not the biggest L.Ron Hubbard fan, I read Mission Earth and I felt like that series could have been done in 3 books but Battlefield Earth should have been done in 10 volumes...I was gripped from the very beginning...I was amazed at the many twists and turns the book...I enjoyed the ride that I was taken on...I do suggest this book to everyone, BUT make sure you have read a couple of other Sci-Fi book...the terminology is intense so be prepared.
