Review: I stayed up till 3AM some nights reading this book. I would not join L. Ron Hubbard's religion, but I do encourage you to read this book.

Review: I read this book originally when I was in high school in the early 80's. I am very particular about sci-fi books and I found this to be the BEST story I have ever read. This story is better than Dune by Frank Herbert, or anything I have ever read by Heinlein (and I enjoy the works of those authors). Now, in all fairness, I do not consider myself a L. Ron Hubbard fan. His series of 10 books that followed this books release (the Invastion Earth series) were good as well, but nothing beats Battlefield Earth. What I find so amusing is how many people discredit the author without having read the book simply because of Scientology. Forget who wrote it, buy it and read it. If you like Sci-Fi, chances are, you'll love this book. John Travola and Forrest Whitaker are now starring in a movie based on the book. This movie will be out soon and I hope they do a good job on the screen-play. Of course, the book will always be better than the movie. This will be the third attempt that a movie studio has tried to make this movie. Obviously there must be something to the story that makes studios want to create a motion picture for it (but have been unable to in the past because of how expensive the effects would be, if they were possible at all). The book is over 1,000 pages. Price per page, that's a value, too. But even if the book were three times the price, it would still be money well spent.

Summary: But What About the *Book*?
Review: Even allowing for differing tastes, the book isn't *that*bad. Given the vehemence of some of the negative reviews here, I can'thelp but think many of them are colored by the reader's dislike or disagreement with Scientology. This isn't Scientology. Or if it is, Scientology must be some pretty everyday stuff. But what this book *is*, is good old-fashioned, black-and-white, good-versus-evil, rockin' and rollin' adventure and some *very* tongue-in-cheek satire. I loved it; I've read it three times and will most likely read it again. It's not for nothing that Hubbard is acclaimed by the likes of Stephen King, Orson Scott Card, Algis Budrys, Asimov, Heinlein -- people who know a thing or two about good writing.I highly recommend this book. Summary: A fun story, worth the time to read.
Review: I first read Battlefield Earth when I was a young boy and fell in love with it. Since then I have read the book several times and have continued to enjoy it. The size and scope of the story is what took me away the first time and continues to delight. I have always been a fan of the idea of confronting the unknown and this story really captured that for me. If you like a story that starts with someone who is at ground zero and goes all the way through the top, then you will like this story. It has some big twists in it. Battlefield Earth was the first book I read where I found myself crying out "No Way!" as the story progressed. I really enjoyed and was immersed by the story...

Summary: Great Cure for Insomnia
Review: So bad. Crazy plot, unbelievable characters and 9th grade writing. This has to rank close to the bottom of all Hubbard's work. I got my copy at a used book store. Right now is is outside, propping up the corner of the doghouse. At least I got some use out of it! Avoid this book at all costs!

Review: This has become one of my favorite books. I generally read more fantasy (2 books a month) than Sci Fi but a friend suggested I read it. Lots of action and also a great look at politics and social issues. Most importantly it kept me wondering what was going to happen next.

Summary: Masterpiece
Review: I have read this book over four times and everytime I read it, it gets better. Hubbard builds his charecters beautifully, you can relate to some of these people. He makes you feel their pain and their happiness, you become part of the story. I have also read the Mission Earth series and those are great also. L Ron Hubbard was a wonderful writer, the sci-fi world lost a wonderful person January 26 1984.

Review: Publication of this book is evidence of man's inhumanity to man. I haven't read a book so dry that it actually gave me a headache since my old college micro-economics text book. Is all of his stuff this bad?

Review: This book is very good. I read it and even if it does have 1050 pages, I loved it!. I would give it 50 stars if I could!

Summary: Interesting and heroic, but long
Review: At 1,050 pages, it's not the longest book I've read--that honor goes to the paperback version of EXECUTIVE ORDERS by Tom Clancy at 1,358 pages--but this felt longer. It's like a rollercoaster in terms of how the storyline proceeds: a lot of alternating rising and falling action, which creates many a lull. It should've been streamlined, or split into two separate books--it basically breaks down to taking Earth back from the Psychlos, and keeping Earth in the face of a new alien invasion and learning that we have a week to pay off the horrifically huge mortgage on it. And if there's a Scientology message anywhere in it, I didn't catch it.
