Summary: Enjoyable read
Review: It's over 1,500 pages so it takes plenty of time to read it. I liked the story but have to agree with some other reviewers who thought that less pages would have done the same trick. The twists in the run-up to the plot are quite good, esp. the in the last couple of hundred pages when an planetary bank gets involved, and the main characters have to face an absurd, surreal situation about the finer points of intergalactic financing and their beloved home planet, but I think I should leave it that before I give away too much.

Summary: Good entertainment if your expectations aren't too high
Review: This is the only one of Hubbard's works that I've read in its entirety. Some of the phrasing is a little odd, I get a sense that Hubbard was fumbling a bit as he tried to tell the story, and a few of the scientific issues I find somewhat suspect, but it's still a good read though quite long. In some ways it's like a moderately good mystery: you can see as each major crux is reached that you had the necessary information to deduce it. I think this is best read in installments; you're likely to get severe mental indigestion if you try to read it without any breaks.

Definitely a 'G' rating. Not only are there no sexual situations, but even the violence inherent in genocide is treated distantly and with no gory particulars.

Summary: At least it's better than the movie.
Review: L. Ron Hubbard was a pulp writer back in the day, and he hadn't improved much in 40 years. This book is full of bad writing, logic holes, and poor characterizaton (Chrissy, Johnny's girlfriend/wife, is pathetic).

But...

Boy, can he make you turn a page.

After a slow opening, the book never let's up. Johnny and freinds solve crisis after crisis with ever increasing stakes. Sure, some of it might not make sense, but it sure is fun.

This is a definite guilty pleasure for me.

Summary: A Classic of the Sci Fi Genre
Review: Having been a sci fi book fan all my life, I found this to be a classic of that genre. Hubbard's depth of character, story line development and imagery are superb in this saga of the year 3000. It is a desolate picture until the hero, Johnny Goodboy Tyler appears on the scene in his leadership role against the evil Psychlo villain, Terl. Terl has all those qualities we love to hate and hate him we do. But his character is also humorous in his evil ways. The story is a testament to the indominable spirit of man which, as always, gives us hope for the future.

Although the book is massive in size (over 1000 pages), it did not seem to be very long due to its non-stop action. It was a book that was hard to put down.

I highly recommend it if you want a book of substance but something that moves along at a rapid pace.

Summary: A thousand pages of good story.
Review: I have read Battlefield Earth and I considered one of the best books I have ever read. It is long, but it does not bore the reader. It looks like a lot of patience is needed to read all 1050 pages of story, but when you start to like it, you get used to it(like I did). The story is complex, mostly at the second half of the book, and that makes it even better. I liked the book and it is worth to be read. Took me two months to finish it, but I do not regret.

Summary: Fair, but not good.
Review: Complete brain candy. That's not necessarily a bad thing. This book is great if you've got lots of time to kill and don't want something that makes you think too hard. Probably the hardest thing about this book is keeping your place in it. Like all of Hubbard's books that I've read it could have been a third as long and still told the same story. Complete space opera, but if that's what you're into then it's worth getting. If you want something more substantial or meaningful try 'Doc' Smith. ; )

Summary: Can't Put It Down!
Review: This book was so good I could hardly see straight! Not an avid reader but a lover of psi-fi, I began to read this book on the recommendation of my husband (an avid reader and psi-fi fan). WOW! I could not put it down!

At one point I was reading it IN THE CAR. Dangerous but it was just too good! Great story, great characters! A masterpiece!

Summary: Battlefield Earth - A Classic Science Fiction
Review: The book is a classic sci fi, action-adventure that is a page turner. I couldn't put it down. The story line is one that transcends time: the triumph of good over evil, but the author treats it in a unique way. The imagery blends the primitive with the futuristic. The characters are big and bold and typify good and evil - Terl, the Psychlo who doesn't seem to have a good bone in his body, and Johnny, a real hero and leader. The humorous aspects of the antagonist, Terl, are quite funny and I found myself laughing out loud.

Overall, it is a great story.

Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read! The intricate plot with it's many twists and turns kept me riveted. The character developement was SO well done that I felt I was "in their heads". The description of the many action sequences was so masterfully done that I felt like I was living the story as I read it. The satire was subtle yet brilliant and many times I found myself laughing out loud. A perfect example of this was the hero's cunning way of manipulating his captor without appearing to do so. The many highs and lows that the characters experience left me wondering "what will happen next?". I HAD to read on to find out! In closing, I must concur with Heinlein and Van Vogt. This is a masterpiece. I recommend it to everyone, Sci-fi fan or not.

Summary: BE-Both entertaining and inciteful!
Review: Not being a Sci-Fi fan, I normally do not read science fiction, however my husband got me interested in reading Battlefield Earth. He loved the book, and has been telling me bits and pieces of the story so I finally decided to read it myself. I found it fascinating how the evil Terl is positive he is so cunning, when in fact he is obviously an ego-maniac. Johnny Good-boy Tyler's resourcefulness and strong spirit is a good opposite to this, and adds great contrast and interaction. The plot thickens as Terl is determined to expand his criminal activities in an interesting way. You will have to read the book to find out how.

It is not only interesting, but very fun as well. I found the story very inciteful in that many of the characters actions mirrored existing social and political situations.

I found Mr. Hubbard's way of writing extremely detailed in a good way. He didn't put in too much, as some writers do, and he certainly adds depth to each scene. I say, don't miss this book!
