Rating: Summary: Not the Best Review: I was disappointed with this book; the book creates more questions than it answers. I found it dry and disjointed; definitely not on the same level as Ms. McCaffrey's other books. Normally, I find it difficult to put one of her books down; I had trouble staying interested in this one.
Rating: Summary: Surefire Pern pleaser; but definitely different... Review: Is it just me, or has McCaffrey's writing changed drastically over the course of the last two Pern novels? Fans familiar with McCaffrey's earliest Pern books will notice a prominent change in her style, as well as subject matter. Pern has changed over the years, and I believe that this shift in style and treatment signals a shift in the world of the Pernese as well. A wonderful, dragon-full read!
Rating: Summary: Lot's of people we know and love! Review: I realy liked this book! It was not as good as the frist three, but just as good as the following novels. Basically if you would like to know a little about what happens to the crew as they get older, plus the younger charecters as they are in their mid to late 30's, then this book is worth reading! There are a few odd things though, such as the importance of Green riders and a guild we have not read much about in the past. As far as I am conserned, those are things that can be resolved in the next novel.
Rating: Summary: The Skies of Pern Review: Another Ann Mccaffrey classic! I love all her books and this one fits right in. On another note to Kent of WA review, Runners are covered in Legends 2 Short Stories By Masters of Modern Fantasy "Runner of Pern". Its hard sometimes to find all the short stories Ann Mccaffrey has published. I make it a habit to check all SF short story books.Hope this helps
Rating: Summary: Skies of Pern review Review: Anne McCaffrey continues to wow me in this excellent book. Skies of Pern focuses on the problems continuing after the Red Star is shifted. It made me laugh and tragedy made me cry. Skies of Pern is an awesome book!
Rating: Summary: Soaring Review: I expect action, dragons and a sense of how life is on Pern whenever I read a new Pern book. The action is far-flung and not all in the skies. The romance adds to the characters and the plot of what will dragons do after the end of Thread is compelling. I did find minor publishing problems, but I desire being swept away to a world of difference when I read about Pern and this book soared and my onlu unhappiness was that I reached the end far too quickly. I will have to endure this world until the next foray to Pern. Thanks, Anne, for a great ride.
Rating: Summary: Eh... Review: I enjoy Anne McCaffrey a WHOLE lot & while this was an interesting book, it wasn't her best. Pegasus in Space was extremely disappointing, this much less so. Sort of a book of tying up loose ends and throwing in a love interest. Worth getting from the library or waiting until paperback, don't spring for the hardback of it.
Rating: Summary: This one is confusing! Review: I love Anne McCaffrey and adore the Pern books--but--this one is not her best. The story line sometimes drags and seems very fragmented. I was also troubled by the editing errors, i.e. a dragon was named as Path (not Mirrim's green) and half a page later the same dragon was Ptath, several incorrect word forms, etc. This kind of sloppiness is very unusual for this series. Despite the problems I always enjoy hearing more about the Pern folks. I'll be interested in the next book (I surely hope there is a next book) to see what Anne does with the future of the dragons. I doubt that waiting for the next comet is enough to engage or maintain the prestige of the dragons and their riders.
Rating: Summary: The gripping continuation of the Pern saga Review: The Dragonriders who have long defended Pern against the dreaded Thread falls are preparing for the last battle - thereafter to retire, the threat abolished forever. Others resist change and the technology which has brought it, and decide to change the face of Pern with violence in this gripping continuation of the Pern saga.
Rating: Summary: Another great Pern novel Review: I found Skies of Pern to be up to the standards of all of the other pern novels. It was very good.
