Rating: Summary: best book in this series yet! Review: I thought 'komarr' was quite a flat and unfunny book by this author, but this book has to be the funniest in the series and one of the best reads I have had in a long time. Really worth buying. I'm looking forward to Miles's upcoming adventurs and what trouble his family and friends get into as well.
Rating: Summary: Space Opera at it's very Best! Review: This book was absoultely great! I've already read it twice, within less then a week. For those of you who have never read anything from Bujold, you are missing out on one the BEST SF writers in the world. She creates characters that you just love to read about, storylines that keep you guessing and always craving for more and more. This book is very good as a stand alone book, but I would recommend reading her other stories in her universe. Perhaps starting with Cordelia's Honor. You can also check out some of her sample chapters (of this book and some earlier works) at her publisher's web page (which I'm not sure I'm allowed to say, but will anyway), Baen.com.
Rating: Summary: An amazing book. You must buy it. Review: I'm going to keep this short. I read the sample chapters posted bit by bit on baen.com and was hooked. Those first ten chapters were great, and it just got better when I bought it and read the rest, thank you Lois and Jim, oh yes and you to Arnold.Kyle
Rating: Summary: The Best Gets Even Better Review: _A Civil Campaign_ is an excellent addition to the Vorkosigan universe. As usual, the prose is deceptively easy to read but the ideas contained in the clear prose are time bombs. The book has something for all thoughtful readers. It should satisfy both science fiction and romance readers. It is a roller coaster of a book. The "laugh out loud" parts are balanced by the parts that deal with honor (and the struggle to maintain it). This book will be on my "to be reread frequently" shelf.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but fairly predictable Review: I'm a HUGE fan of Miles & Co. A Civil Campaign is very enjoyable, but we don't get a great amount of character development--except with Ivan. Is it just me? Or does Ivan get smarter with each book? Don't read the rest of this review if you haven't read the book yet. I wish we had more about Cordelia (my fave character) and Aral. And Mark isn't appealing (I liked him in Mirror Dance)...why would Kareen be interested in him? The butter bugs were the predictable part of the book. Once introduced, I already "knew" that they would be engineered with the Vorkosigan slogan, and then escape. It could have been much funnier. But, Ms. Bujold, keep it coming. I just love your characters.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievably good Review: This is another slam bang smash by Lois. I cannot begin to describe how incredibly funny, happy, sad, intricate and just plain magnificent this book is. If you're a Vorkosigan fan, this is IT. If you're wondering what all the hoopla is about, you should read Komarr first. (That's according to the author). Unlike most Science Fiction, Bujold writes a book that is long on interpersonal interaction and short on My Eyes Glaze Over. The science that is in her books, though, is very good and central to the story. The plot about the Butter Bugs is sure to resonate through the rest of the Miles books. Oh, and I've never seen a better disastrous sad/farcical scene than the dinner in ANY book. Damn Fine Read Lois. Great Job!
Rating: Summary: Laughter and Love will abide Review: The best yet from this great author. I followed the preliminary chapters and could not wait to get my hands on the book. I had been out of the country for a week and with jetlag and all I never closed my eyes until this book was finished. This is a first rate buy just to relieve the stress with laughter.
Rating: Summary: Finally a real challenge. Review: He's commandeered entire mercenary fleets. Stopped planetary invasions. Evaded teams of assassins out to get him. How hard can one courtship be? Miles, your old tactics might not work here.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious and heartfelt Review: I read the first ten chapters on Baen's web site and immediately bought the hardcover. My husband did the same, so we now have two copies...and have each read it about four times in less than a week. I am *so* glad Bujold is letting Miles grow up, become an adult, and have to face the consequences of his actions. And the butter bug subplot - ! Stunning. Absolutely stunning. My only complaint was the hideous cover art, but that's besides the point. Somehow I think Dorothy, Georgette, Charlotte and Jane would be proud.
Rating: Summary: Another Hit for Ms. Bujold Review: I have just completed "A Civil Campaign" and while I thoroughly this novel I must admit I wish there were more. I have been waiting for this since "Komarr" and I was definitely not disappointed. This mixes many of the elements common to Miles Vorkosigan stories. I highly recommend this but only after "Komarr." You need it as a warm up to this wonderful story.
