Rating: Summary: Oh, yeah, Oh, YEAH! This is _GOOD_ Review: This is a great read! I have never encountered an SF book with this much humor in a real plot. The story deals with Miles Vorkosigan and his family's and friends' romantic difficulties when he woos Miss Right. I agree with the earlier reviewer regarding Patrick O'Brien and Mrs. Bujold. They both do Jane Austen VERY well. Just as if Austen had written navel fiction she would have written the Aubrey/Maturin series, if she had written science fiction, she would have written the Vorkosigan books. ACC is much more than an homage to Austen though. It has less action than some of the earlier Vorkosigan books but it is still full of science fiction action! From political intrigue to the social impact of advanced technology on a recently feudal culture, this book covers a wide spectrum of subjects well. Get this book! Heck, get the whole series so you don't miss any of the references! My Mom bought a copy and I read it, I was going to just use hers, but I liked it so much I bought my own copy. My wife doesn't even read science fiction, but I'm going to try this one on her, it's that good.
Rating: Summary: She just keeps getting better & better Review: I loved this book. It had everything gut splitting humour, food fights, political intrigue, and regency romance. It's one of those books that once you start reading it you just can't stop and when you do finish you want more. I want more and so will you.
Rating: Summary: Great book. Best in serries so far! Review: This book covers Miles learning about romance and politics. It is fast paced, the character development is full and rich and consistant with other books about Miles' World. The Story line keeps you hopping from one area to another. The book teachs us a lot about ourselves and our current world even though the book is set in the future on another planet.
Rating: Summary: hilarious, a delightful change-of-pace Review: I have followed this series since the beginning, and this is a delightful change of pace, reminiscent of those 18th century drawing room comedies-of-eros, with politics thrown in for good measure. I was ROTFL during a lot of it, which amazed my children, as I was visiting them when I bought the book. It is a must read for anyone who just loves humor, with some dramatic relief.
Rating: Summary: The best yet! Review: Okay, I said that about Komarr, too. It just keeps getting better. The Vorkosigan books started out as fine space opera, and they've continued being excellent stories while the author's use of the language has improved even beyond the best subtlety of Jane Austen. The dialogue is fantastic. What else can I say? It's worth the read no matter who you are. Drop everything and read this whole series immediately.
Rating: Summary: Excellent story! Review: I really enjoyed A Civil Campaign! A funny, moving story. I thought the beginning was a little slow -- in fact, when I read the preview chapters, I was prepared for a disappointing read. (A personal peeve of mine is people who write reviews when they haven't read the whole book!) But when I read the whole book, it all came together into a great story. Amazon provided great service in getting me this book before it was available in any of my local bookstores. One of her best!
Rating: Summary: A focal-point book in the Vorkosigan series Review: Miles has met Ekaterin earlier, in "Komarr", and is now madly in love with her. Unfortunately, she is still recovering from her marriage and has wrapped herself in her widowhood to avoid courtship. So he has to court her in secret... without her realizing it! VERY funny, well-written book with Barrayaran politics and not many explosions. It would help if you've read previous Vorkosigan books before this one, but you might enjoy it even if you haven't read What Has Gone Before.
Rating: Summary: Know's what her readers want and gives it to us Review: This book has a major problem, IT ENDS. I started reading LMB with The Warrior's Aprentice and have since read all she has written, and she has never dissapointed me. ACC is no exception. In, what for me, has been a very good summer for the type of science fiction that I like ACC is the icing on the cake. I can not recommend it highly enough
Rating: Summary: Space Light Opera? A romantic comedy in space Review: that will make you laugh and cry and cheer them on. I've been reading her books for years, and they have only gotten better. This is character-driven adventure with a powerful message. Miles continues to grow and mature, and it's wonderful to watch.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous, as always Review: My only complaint is that it ended, and we'll be waiting another year for the next one. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. LMB continues to be my favorite SF author. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
