Rating: Summary: Funny, funny, funny, funny book Review: Like others who have reviewed this book, I heartily recommend reading at least Komarr first. I didn't, so the first hundred pages made my head spin; however, once everything starting clicking together for me, I couldn't put the book down! And if you are already familiar with the characters of Miles Vorkosigan's mad and merry household, I give you five words as a reason for reading the book: Armsman Roic bug butter wrestling.
Rating: Summary: Another excellent Miles Vorkosigan experience! Review: Miles fans should love this book. If you wondered what would happen in Miles' life after "Komarr", here is your answer. Buy this!!
Rating: Summary: all of her books are wonderful Review: All these people who complain or warn that this isn't a shoot-'em-up book... For goodness sake. Is there only one kind of book in the world? Lois McMaster Bujold has written several hilarious action books and now she's written a hilarious peacetime book. It's still got the same great writing, the same Barrayaran politics, and would any of these books be the same without the unique characters?
Rating: Summary: Extremely satisfying. Review: I would not recommend this book as a starting point for those who have not read any of the other volumes in the Vorkosigan saga. At the minimum you should read the previous book, Komar. But for those who, like me, have read all the previous books (in my case several times)I don't see how this book can fail to entertain. Although it has very little action (one brief gunbattle with stun guns, it is highly entertaining in all other respects. I laughed out loud so many times I lost count, and there were occasionally tears in my eyes that I could not ascribe to the laughter. If you know and love Miles, his friends, and his family, you can't help but be amused and moved by this story. My only complaint is that now I have to wait untold months before another volume of the saga comes out. Meanwhile I will go back and reread the entire series from start to finish once more. And here's hoping ImpSec is keeping close watch to make sure nothing stops the delightful Ms. Bujold from the swift completion of the next book, and the next, and...
Rating: Summary: Great, natural progression for Miles after Memory and Komarr Review: I enjoyed this book very much even though it was not "action-packed" like Mirror Dance and earlier novels. It is best to have read the other books and I found it easy to follow the characters with rapt anticipation despite the lack of star fleet battles. The effect of familiarity is more payoff in less book space for old characters. Kou and Drou have a particularly edged moment coming up against the force that is Cordelia--priceless!. And new characters are added effortlessly when related to the old "family". Lady Donna succeeds wonderfully with the help of Ivan and a Koudelka Commando. I hope the next book either reproves that marriage is not an end of story or continues the development of that idiot Vorpatril....
Rating: Summary: great story, great humor--Miles is back & so is Ekaterin! Review: Miles & Ekaterin's courtship, Liveried Vorkosigan Vomit bugs (courtesy of Lord Mark's bioengineering entepreneurship), and the Emperor's wedding mix well in this continuation of Komarr. I ignored my family for two days to finish it, chuckling non-stop. I wish the next book were out now. But next time, I'd like more action. Maybe Bujold can do another novel about Quinn....
Rating: Summary: fabulous Review: I just discovered Ms Bujold's work last month. Having blazed through the books, A Civil Campaign provided a more than nice finish. I was so pleased by the book that I refused to go to sleep last night until I finished - and though it was late this was no struggle. A compelling romance, this book lacks some of the elements that might draw others in. I was overjoyed, truly, by this book, but I imagine if I had been waiting for a year after reading Komarr (instead of 5 min.)I might have been a little disappointed. No swashbuckling, no space - no matter. I found this book to occasionally move me to tears and to outspoken delight - remember that? Remember when you were 12 and so wrapped up in characters and plot that key moments would elicit unbidden exclamations from your excited lips? This book can make you 12 again. Take this with the caveat that not much actually happens - it is the least eventful of the books. Nonetheless, I found that I perhaps enjoyed this more than any of the other books. Indeed it was the perfect end to my recent immersion in the Vorkosigan world. I eagerly await the next installment - and there are so many threads available for Ms. Bujold to exploit and develop now. I am sure she will capitalize on a few and there will be action galore in the future!
Rating: Summary: Gotta love that forward momentum! Review: I did what another reviewer suggested and read the preview chapters and then bit off all my finger nails waiting for my copy to arrive, irate at myself for not paying for the express shipping! Boy am I glad I got this book. I am picky on what books I actually buy and there are few books I will buy in hardcover if at all and this writer is one of those few. Bujold can make me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. This book was full of laughs and a very fun read. The only problem now is that I have to wait a year to find out What Happens Next! Lois McMaster Bujold, if you ever read this you are AWESOME and please don't ever stop writing! I love these messes Miles get into and the amazing ways he gets out!
Rating: Summary: A Great Book Review: Some people say this book was disappointing and bad, but I LOVED IT!!!!! It was the funniest book, and I am so happy for all the people who got engaged or married (there are a ton). Read this book, it's great.
Rating: Summary: Disapointing Review: The last book of Miles saga is definetly the most disapointing. I used to be a great fan of Miles an Bujold serie. But this time I found nothing relevant in the story, no real character development, nothing.
