Summary: one of the best books I've ever read!!!!
Review: When I first read the golden compass I loved it and when I found out that there was a sequel I was sooo happy that I'd be able to read more about this wonderful world, anyway the subtle knife is about how Lyra & Will find a mystical knife that can cut thruogh anything, even into another world, if you enjoyed the first book you'll love this one.

Summary: I couldn't put it down!!
Review: I like the order in witch the author put the events. It kept me interested through the intire book. I cant wait to get the squel!!!

Summary: The Subtle Knife is a WONDERFUL book
Review: This book is one of my favorites! I think how Philip Pullman writes is terrific and suspenseful. He really knows how to keep you reading! If you haven't read this book I highly recommend it to you-- although you should read the Golden Compass before reading The Subtle Knife. But when you read it make sure you have a lot of time, because in some places you just can't read fast enough!

Summary: A long book, but a quick read.
Review: This book didn't disappointment me compared to the first one. It had a more intellectual view, so that instead of just adding more action sequences, it answered some questions (But made even more!

Summary: I guess it was ok.
Review: The Golden Compass is one of my favorite books, I have to admit but The Subtle Knife, well, it kind of bothered me. That stuff about gob being evil reallly bothered me. I dont think he should have messed with religon in any kind of way. I hope that subjecit will take a different route in the 3rd book because I didn't really enjoy this book as much as the first one.

Summary: One of the best books I've read
Review: THis book is very interesting. I got absorbed into this book, and I just couldn't put it down. Lyra is a ver intersting character to read about, like when she was with the gypsies, everybody's daemons, and I loved Iorek, the bear. He was also a very strong character, always helping Lyra. This book is highly recommended.

Summary: Absolutely Marvelous!
Review: I just love thinking about things such as parallel dimensions, the universe and such. This book was great and I can't wait to get my hands on the third. I was just a TAD bit upset when Scoresby and Grumman had to die, but that's besides the point. I am amazed that this book was so good considering i got this at an Elementary School Book Fair. It was great. Phillip Pullman, hurry up writing, I've been without Lyra and friends for four whole days!!!!

Summary: Amazing
Review: Pullman creates a wonderful storyline, easy to get involved in, and connects his whole idea to the very ideas that fuel Paradise Lost.

There are so many fantastic literary connections: the character fighting god is so human and easy to identify with, the angels are so unquestioningly loyal, their logic is circular, the battle is to take place in the north, and the dust is such a temptation.

I can't wait to see what conclusion Pullman draws on the fight between good and evil- like Paradise Lost, his main characters aren't exactly on God's side.

Summary: Good artistry but questionable ethics
Review: Pullman has invented a lot of creative gadgets (alethiometer, knife, cloud-pine, etc). But in the end, it's not the gadgets that matter, but rather the characters and their choices. The characters in The Subtle Knife bother me: Will, who follows in his father's footsteps because "it makes as much sense as anything," and Lyra, who does the unquestioned bidding of the forces behind the alethiometer. Lee Scoresby alone wrestles with ethical dilemmas; he alone questions the legitimacy of killing, and he seems to have some sense of the mix of good with evil in his own soul. But even Lee chooses sides out of personal loyalty to Lyra--which seems commendable but blinds him to the possibility that the side she serves may be the wrong one.

In the cosmology of this trilogy, the characters can serve either a church riddled with hypocrisy or corruption, or a rebellion made possible by the killing of innocents. (You who begin to like Lord Asriel, remember the sacrifice of Roger...) Will no one think outside the box? When the Nazi government rose to power, and the official church went right along with its cruelty, some (like Dietrich Bonhoeffer) continued to serve the one true God of justice and mercy. Do Pullman's characters know what (or whom) they serve?

Summary: This book is one of the best I have ever read
Review: Like I said, this book is one of the best I have ever read, and believe me, I have read a LOT of books. This is not your typical book where the handsome (adult) hero saves the day. In this book, it shows that kids can be and ARE as brave as adults! I gave this book a 9 because no book can ever be perfect, but this one is EXTREMELY close to it. I also like Pullman's other book THE GOLDEN COMPASS. If you want to read THE SUBTLE KNIFE then I suggest you read the book before it `cause if you don't this book will make no sense to you.
