Summary: Must read, Absoutly fab!!!!!!!!
Review: Realy Realy Cool. You cant help thinking that the doorways into other worlds might exsist. Why not? or the Specters, or the witches or the Subtle Knife! It realy sets you thinking, could it be true. Well it could. It's a plesure to read and enjoy and wonder about. Alongside this is the action of Will and Lyra, and the adventures they encounter. Altogether it is a wonderfull mixture of excitement and mystery. A must read for all. I would recommend it for 11 years to 111 years!!

Summary: as good as the first book
Review: this book i thought was as good if not better than the Golden Compass(the first book of this series)right now waiting for the third one and i cannot stand the wait. this book was awesome

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: exciting and page turning
Review: Unlike many sequels this book kept the excitment present at every turn. People who loved Lyra during Golden Compass will be thrilles with her new companion. The book keeps the reader longing for the conclusion while well satisfied with the earlier plot.

Summary: Fantabulous book, best book ever and I NEED VOLUME III !!!
Review: The Subtle Knife is sooo amazingly wonderful! If you have not read it,read it NOW. However, presently I am in great despair as the third book still has not been published. It is a great fantasy adventure about two courageous children who face tremendous difficulties but somehow manage to pull through. There is only one problem; at the end there is a MAJOR cliffhanger!!!

Summary: One of the greatest books I've ever read!!!!
Review: I just finished reading the book today (11.12.98) and it was awesome!! I started with The Golden Compass, and I liked Panatalaimon (Lyra's Daemon, a physical embodiment of its owner's soul) so much I just had to read the other book(s). Oh, I also liked the adventure, the mystery, and many other elements of the story, but shape shifting lifeime companions?? Woahhh!!! I've gotta read the sequel!!! I read The Subtle Knife in 3 days and loved it. Once again, Pan was my favorite character. Daemons are just so cool. What is the third book of His Dark Matter anyway??

Summary: Simply FASCINATING!
Review: I read the Golden Compass before it was out- I got the first print copy. Nobody knew what I was talking about when I told them about it... but now they do. Philip Pullman creates a wonderful plot and whoever has not read this book... read it!

Summary: Satanic? Whatever!
Review: If you are true christians that read this book and think its satanic, then you might want to start to question things a little more often. If we dont think and question are faith and go on only what we have been told assuming that it is all true we arent glorifing god at all because were going on the base of conformity and not on the base of believing these things of our own free will. Part of faith is questioning it. If we dont do that we arent challenging it and it can never be proved right or wrong, good or evil. Read the book again and keep an open mind because it is written EXTREMELY well and is appealing. The point of books are for entertainment, being cynical of all the aspects and contradictions of belief to a book wont be very entertaining.

BOTTOM LINE: Read the book with an open mind and an understanding that its okay to THINK and to QUESTION.

Summary: WOW!!!Luv IT! Read it 5 times!!:)
Review: I loved the book, but it just left you there at the end. I can't wait until he comes out with his dark materials 3! I have to admit that the golden compass was a little better but that's probably because I'm bitter about the cliff-hanger ending!

Summary: It was hard to put down!!!
Review: I have read the first two books in the series and have found them amazing. The golden compass(book one) was one of the best books I have ever read beaten only by the subtle knife. I bouight the book got home and started to read. It was about 3 oclock. I didn't stop reading it till I was finished which was quite a few hours later. Basically if you like the golden compass you will love this book. The only thing that I don't like about this book is that it was published a little over a year ago I think and the third book is coming out in september of 99 which is in a long time and the book leavees you hanging.

Summary: A Worthy successor to one of the best books I've ever read.
Review: I just finished reading The Subtle Knife about 25 minutes before I started writing this review and I have to start out by saying that this is one of the most thought-provoking novels that I have ever read. There are a lot of great books out there (i.e. The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy) but only a few books have ever really made me stop and, well, THINK. One other book I can think of is The Sea Wolf but it Pales in Comparison to this. This is truly a great work of literature and I believe it will outlast the criticizim of Pullman's moral values.
