Summary: This is the COOLEST book!
Review: I read THE GOLDEN COMPASS and THE SUBTLE KNIFE in one night, and diden't realize it was 4 in the morning until my dad got up to go to work. I rate this book as the utmost best. I was in goosebumps while reading it, it was so DRASTIC.I am desperately waiting for the sequel and I wonder; will it be a tragedy? will evil triumph? Will Lyra come out on top? And What about Mary Malone?

Summary: This is a great book!
Review: I love the book The Subtle Knife ALMOST as much as I love The Golden Compass. The reason I say almost is because the end is a total cliff-hanger, so I have to wait until the next book is published. I love how the book has a lot of action and, like the prequel, a lot of suspense at the end of chapters. It took me only two nights to finish this book, because I couldn't put it down. Like the prequel, I recommend this book to any fantasy lovers.

Summary: Second best book I ever read, second only to its predasessor
Review: Um, almost as good as the first, the only bad thing is it leaves you hanging, but well worth it.

Summary: I thought this book was great!!!!
Review: This book I can honestly say was one of the best books I ever read (and I have more books then I can count)! I like to read both fantasy and sci-fi and I fully recommend this book to anyone who is bothering to read this review.

Summary: Intriguing...
Review: Reviews for this book seem to have gotten further from the actual content of this book towards the whole religious aspect.

I quite enjoyed The Subtle Knife. The plot was thoroughly engrossing and the characters were lively and interesting. The religious aspect was very thought-provoking and an altogether interesting view of looking at things. However, being an atheist, I'm probably more inclined to find this so.

The one thing I didn't like about the book was the ending. I hate cliff-hangers and boy is this a big one. It annoyed me as a deliberate device to encourage readers to read the third book (though it will undoubtedly work on many people-- myself included). Over all, though, highly recommended. One hint-- start reading the second one after the third comes out so you can get ahold of it immediately.

Summary: This is one of the best books I've read.
Review: My literature class read The Golden Compass in the first few weeks of school. When I finished it I was totaly hooked, so I bought this book.I hate to read, but this book was so good I finished it in 5 days. In this book you can put yourself in Lyra's or Will's shoes( depending on if your a girl or boy). This is definetly a must read book.

Summary: Reader from San Jose (Oct. 3) you're a moron
Review: To start off, I would like to say that I thought that this was a great book. The only reason that I gave it 1 star was so that this would be read. To the reader in San Jose: You ignorant, self-righteous, schmuck. What the hell are you talking about. Why don't you go sit in the corner for a while and come out when you're ready to stop acting like an immature oversensitive fool.

Summary: Wonderful! A brilliant successor to The Golden Compass!
Review: I first started reading this series about 2 summers ago. My suggestion: begin with The Golden Compass. The Subtle Knife is definitely more intricate, and has a brilliant plot and a more than suspensful ending. A warning: be aware that the third book has not been published! Like almost everyone else, I have been on the edge of my seat... waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the next book. I hear it's going to be called The Amber Spyglass. In my opinion, this book was better than the first. Will is introduced as a strong, brave character, and someone whom Lyra can depend on. I don't think this book is overly inappropriate for young children, although it does have some religious aspects which should be taken into consideration. Regardless, it is still the best in a series I have ever read, besides The Time Quartet (L'Engle) and Narnia (C.S. Lewis). The characters and scenes are deftly described. This is one of those rare books in which it is possible to put yourself in the characters' shoes. You can think, feel, and act as Lyra and Will would. So... buy, read, and enjoy!

Summary: Amazing sequel!
Review: If you have read the Golden Compass, you will love this book! I've read this book in only a matter of days, and a friend whom I recommended His Dark Materials, read The Subtle Knife in less than a day! If you haven't read this book, you are missing out!
