Rating: Summary: As cool as the Golden Compass Review: The Subtle Knife and it's prequel, the Golden Compass, are easily the best books ever written. This one is full of adventure, fun, and fear. You never know what will happen next, which is why while reading this book, the only time I stopped reading was to marvel at how great it was. Everyone thought I was crazy, but not anymore. Everyone loves Philip Pullman's style now. I do too, and you probably will after this. I can't wait till the sequel, the Amber Spyglass come out, because you can't read this book without the sequel next to it, waiting to be read. The Subtle Knife is just too exciting.
Rating: Summary: A few words: the best, totally cool, and AWESOME!!! Review: The second installment to the best series I have ever read. All the excitement, fantasy and adventure in these books are incredible! I am anxiously awaiting the 3rd installment!
Rating: Summary: A great book which no one should miss out on Review: This book was a genuine masterpiece. It was outstanding in every way. It is the type of book which you can get so involved in that you don't want to put it down.
Rating: Summary: ********amazing******** Review: this book was amazing!I just finised reading the book and can't wait till the next book is released!
Rating: Summary: A Decent second book in the Trilogy Review: After reading The Golden Compass I quickly purchased The Subtle Knife eager to discover more of Pullman's imaginative and well-crafted world. The Subtle Knife was fast-paced and full of excitement which kept me turning the pages yet it lacked the richness and causality of the first book-The Golden Compass. I am not a writer so I have little to say when it comes to solidly criticizing an author's form yet I am a composer of music and know a bit about the subject. I have to say that The Subtle Knife lacks the richness and depth of his first book and contains a significant number of awkward and predictable passages that dissappoint. Not once while reading the Golden Compass did I find myself thinking these thoughts. Altogether The Subtle Knife was a good book but it doesn't satisfy the expectations left by the first.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!!!!!! Review: The whole story of Lyra and Will is wonderful. I not only feel as if I'm there, I feel like I'm best friends with the characters. One hint... read Golden Compass first!!!!
Rating: Summary: As good as The Golden Compass! Review: I recomend The Subtle Knife as well as the first book in His Dark Materials to people of all ages(yes, even kids, considering I am one)! I am totally enthusiastic to anyone who wants to buy or read The Subtle Knife! I did like the Golden Compass just a little better though, because in the sequel Lyra is a little too obedient to Will, if you ask me. I mean, she wouldn't even look at the althiometer to see if Lee Scoresby was okay! Overall I think Subtle Knife is a great book and I won't say any more 'cause I don't trust myself not to give anything away! Oh, and I wouldn't read this book until The Amber Spyglass comes out because you might get stuck waiting for an ending!
Rating: Summary: Great Book, Not As Good As Original Review: I am a fan of the Golden Compass, and was thrilled to recieve the second book. I was a little disappointed in it, though. There wasn't as much creativity in this one. Also, the end leaves you wanting the next book, but I can't find it!! If anyone can, please write it here or notify me.
Rating: Summary: The ante is upped...better than THE GOLDEN COMPASS! Review: This book blew me away. I'm on pins and needles waiting for the final installment. The action is incredible (two of the most brutal, viceral and heartbreaking fights ever), the emotions racking (I saw from the start how the final chapter would end, but I was still torn up and shocked), and the ideas stunning (think Snow Crash or think Mona Lisa Overdrive, or mayber even Foundation for sheer jaw dropping audacity). This book has it all. I wish I could go into more detail, but I don't want to spoil the fun. Buy this book (and The Golden Compass) and read it.
Rating: Summary: The Absolutely Best Book I've ever read Review: Ok so this guy has a Subtle Knife so what. So what what am I talking about. This is a great book. Will has a Knife that'll cut through any object in the world and Lyra an alethiometer that tells the truth. The catch to this is that the Sutle Knife is barely even part of the plot. And Lyra and Will both play a huge part in winning a war against who I'm not going to say because it will ruin the suprise but I'll say this Lord Asriel is the leader of one of the armies.
