Rating: Summary: I can't wait for the Amber Spyglass!!!!! Review: Just as exciting and fulfilling as The Golden Compass was. Will was a great character and he goes along with Lyra very well. Like the GC I started reading this book and immediately couldn't put it down. I think the Amber Spyglass is going to be amazing so I guess all we can do now is wait to see how Pullman is going to bring everything together in the end. I'm hoping Iorek Byrnison gets back into the third book and I'm sure he probably will.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED this book! Review: If you like fantasy or science ficton books, you'll love this trilogy! Mr. Pullman: Please hurry up finishing the next book!
Rating: Summary: From another enthusiastic fan..., Review: The first time I had ever heard of Philip Pullman was when my three-year-old picked up a copy of "The Golden Compass" on tape at our public library. The cover art was beautiful and intriguing, so I checked it out. On listening to the story, I was immediately drawn in by the wonderful word imagery and intense story line. Wanting more, I DEVOURED "T.G.C." and "The Subtle Knife." I have read each several times and cannot wait for "The Amber Spyglass." I have read most of the reviews printed on the trilogy, and as a Christian, I have to say that my faith was not challenged by the portrayal of "The Church." I feel that the author has more to say on this subject, and that we the readers shouldn't try to finish the story for him. What I mean to say is, we shouldn't jump to the conclusions that some of us have, and judge so negatively the author's moral and spiritual intentions. Let's wait and see how he ends the adventure. Personally, while reading the books, I was actually moved to read the Bible more, believe it or not. I think it prompted a search in me to find a deeper symbolism than that which lies on the surface. I will wait anxiously for the final work, and maybe the author will expound on his own beliefs and reasons for writing these excellent works.
Rating: Summary: It was a book that made you think of what might be. Review: This book was great. It wasn't fnatasy and it was not true. It makes you think of the possibilities there might be. It is a book that talks more about frienship and loyalty before duty.
Rating: Summary: When is the Amber spyglass coming out? Review: For almost two years, I've been searching for the publication date of "The Amber Spyglass." First I heard that it was August, 1999. Now I'm hearing May, 2000. Please write a comment on this page if you have ANY idea as to what the date is.
Rating: Summary: Hurry up on the third book! Review: I thought that The Subtle Knife opwas a great book. It was great to read about Lyra and Will was a nice addition to the plot. Only one thing was bad- the cliffhanger ending. Hurry up on The Amber Spyglass.
Rating: Summary: If you liked the GC, THIS book is by far even more fun! Review: I would have to saw, I thought that Phillup Pullman had out done himself with The Golden Compass...but I was wrong! He took a great story and only made it better! Many times I have read books that only got worse as sequals came, but Pullman made this sequel much better then even the original! I would recomend it to all Fantasy reader out there!
Rating: Summary: Definitely one of the best series I've ever read. Review: I loved the Golden Compass and the Subtle Knife by Phillip Pullman. And I'm sure after reading them you'll agree they're excellent. He must have been a really amazing person to have thought up such complex ideas then converting them into a story. I can't wait until the third book comes out.

Rating: Summary: An exciting tale of other worlds but reflecting our own Review: I first heard about the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy on a radio review programme. Published in the UK as children's books, the adult reviewer recommended them to anyone who liked an exciting plot and an enthralling read - and that is certainly what they are. Although the writing is simple enough for older children, the stories involve readers of any age. The first book (published in the UK as The Northern Lights) starts in Oxford - but this is not quite the Oxford we recognise. There are similarities but a feeling of an older time, without all the inventions of the modern world and gradually, as the story unfolds, more of the world is revealed. Witches, gypsies, armoured polar bears and the strange Dust which seems to be the secret behind everything. Most beautifully crafted are the daemons, the visible souls of the characters, which reflect their inner thoughts and feelings, created as animal companions without which the humans cannot live. The second book (The Subtle Knife) merges this world with the world we know, in a strange and eerie place, as the secrets are unravelled further. The only disappointing thing about this trilogy is that the third book (The Amber Spy Glass)is not to be published until next year - so we are kept on tenterhooks to see how it will all end. The only good thing about this is that it will give me a chance to read the first two books again, more slowly this time, so that I can really appreciate all the strands which tie the worlds together - in readiness for a story which may blow them all apart
