Summary: IT WAS GREAT!
Review: Listen, to anyone who wants to think that this book is about the devil, go ahead. But, to everyone else, this is a WONDERFUL book. Before i read any of the negative comments, I would have never geussed that this book was ment to influence me to worship the devil! It is a great book. Please dont ruin this book for everyone whho likes it by banning it or something. This book has a conflict of good vs. evil, like most books do. How is it different? There is nothing bad about these books

Summary: This is the greatest book I'll ever read!
Review: The Subtle Knife was one of those great books that you just had to read another page, and another page - I could never put this book down! NO part of it was dull - It was 100% non-stop excitement, filled with danger and a twist of fate. Lyra and Will made an excellent team in this bok, and it is definately worth reading over and over! I would reccomend this book to anyone above 12 years old who has a creative imagination to enjoy page after page of true writing. Philip Pullman has done it again (The Golden Compass was GREAT as well)!

Summary: A thriller that will never let you go.
Review: This book was just great. From the time I picked it up I never wanted to put it down. And being a teenager it's hard to find a book that would do that for me. It has all the adventure and thrills that lead you on a simply amazing ride. Although I haven't read the book before this one in the trilogy, I thought this one was awesome. When I found out the next part doesn't come out till May I almost died. I'm on the edge all ready for the next part of the trilogy. Anyone with any imangation read this, it expands your mind to the outter limits. A definate pleaser!

Summary: Great book, but not as good as The Golden Compass
Review: This book was great, but not quite as good as its prequel. The Golden Compass was as much an adventure book as a Fantasy, but this book was all out Fantasy. Too many new concepts were introduced in this book. Combine these oddities to the ones in The Golden Compass and we're overloaded. This book was still great, but it has it's downsides. This battle against God was unexpected, and uncalled for, but since it didnt play much of a role in this book, that complaint will go to The Amber Spyglass. Another fault in this book is the lack of Pantalaimon. He/she/it/whatever played a major role in keeping Lyra company in the first book, but since Will is here in this one, Panatalimon was not needed. He was basically swept under the rug. This character was sorely missed. As stated earlier, the book was too peculiar. Too much fantasy, not enough adventure into the unknown. In the Golden Compass, Lyra spent the time travelling accross new lands. Here, when she did finally travel, she was under the watchful eye of the witches. The final problem was the abundance of plots. Too many different plotlines were there, and this allowed none of them to go anywhere, while still keeping the book 400 pages. If you go back and think about it, Lyra didnt really do anything spectacular until right near the end in this book. This book and The Golden Compass are both great books, but in separate ways.

Summary: I am a Christian and I LOVED this book
Review: I absolutely adored this book. It grabbed me and wouldn't let me put it down until I finished. I don't agree with the War on God part, but these are two points I have to make:

1. We don't know if Lord Asriel is a hero or not. We've gotten mixed reviews. We don't know if he will succeed. Remember, all these peeps are human. That's what I, personally, love about these series: you can't tell what is going to happen. There's still a third book to come out...don't start placing the "blasphemy" lable on something before you know "the facts". And what's wrong with a piece of literature? Even if Phillip Pullman does turn out to be atheist or something similar, does this mean he has no right to write a book about his views?

2. Just because the charactars have flaws doesn't mean this teaches children and teens to have those flaws. In fact, I like it when the main charactars in the story have flaws. They're human. Besides, they do fit the classic hero myth. They are good, inside. And noble, and brave.

3. Don't look at the details. Some people work so hard in trying to find things "wrong" with the book that they miss the good points, indeed, the whole point of the story. Besides, like some other reviewer said, it's FICTION.

Don't miss out on a good book. If you've read The Golden Compass, you really should read The Subtle Knife. Both are fabulous.

Summary: Good
Review: It has been a while since I read this one, but after reading some of the reviews, I think people may be surprised at what is going to happen in the third book. Some say that Pullman says God is evil, but I have to disagree. I think many of the characters are just mislead. Why would Pullman make Lyda's goal to kill God? I think we are in for a surprise in this last book.

Summary: San Jose is full of it
Review: Anybody that reads A reader from San Jose's review of the book shoud know that it is completely wrong. This book is one of the most beautiful, incredible examples of classic fantasy ever made. This and the Golden Compass are easily in my top five list. Anybody can read this, whether they're seven (that's when I read it) or seventy. Just get off your butt and read it. I'm eleven and it ranks right up there with Harry Potter. Check it out!!!

Summary: These are among the most incredible books I've ever read.
Review: This trilogy is the most stunning, incredible series of books ever written. A must-read for Pullman fans, they display his unbelieveable talent for weaving a storyline so fraught with adventure and yet still so true to life that the outcome is a book that is impossible to put down. This particular book, The Subtle Knife, is just as good as the first in a different way, though somewhat maddening as Mr. Pullman seemed to enjoy killing off some of my favorite characters. Moreover, these books seem less a product of someone's imagination than actual happenings, they are described with such detail. One can not help but enjoy these books, primarily for their great plot, secondly for their vivid storytelling, and finally for their ability to make you reflect upon them for weeks to come. I encourage everyone to read these novels, as well as the Sally Lockhart trilogy, and most everything written by Philip Pullman, for that matter.
