Summary: WAITING
Review: THE TWO BOOKS, GOLDEN COMPASS AND THE SUBTLE KNIFE, WERE BOTH EXCELLENT BOOKS. HURRY UP WITH THE THIRD!

Summary: Wonderful, Fantastic,...
Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read! If you liked "The Golden Compass" you will love this. I really don't know how to explain this book. It follows Lyra Silvertounge and Will Parry on a quest to find Will's father. This book is full of suspense and you wont be able to put it down until you have finished it. I loved it and I hope you will to!

Summary: Cried
Review: When I read this book, I cried. By the time I was halfway through the book I was so involved with the characters. I could almost feel their emotional struggle. I also enjoyed the great sense of being a part of the book, and the nostalgia when some of the characters from book one came to help Will and Lyra. Although I was dissappointed that the main character is now Will, and not Lyra, I still enjoyed this book very much. It lacked only a little of what the Golden Compass had, but it made up for that in so many other ways. For instance, in the Golden Compass, there as a degree of mystery and a feeling of being foriegn in Lyra's strange world, but when they have it set in our world, it takes a little of that extra interest out of it. But nonetheless, it is one of the best books I have ever read, and I am going to kill myself if The Amber Spyglass doesn't come out soon.

Summary: Let's be subtle about religion
Review: I agree that the book is well conceived and intriguing. And, whatever it says about religion, it should not be censored. But perhaps we should be asking some more pointed and difficult questions. First, the Church here is not just any church; it's the Magesterium, which means R.C. Is it good, or right, that this church is portrayed as involved almost solely in child abuse? Second, Lord Asriel is obviously Lord Israel (just switch two letters). His desire to kill God is therefore an echo of the old idea that the Jews killed Jesus. Now what is going on with these images? Censorship aside, should we support and laud them?

Summary: Lyra and Pantalaimon rule!...and so do their friends!
Review: The book starts off with a stranger to readers of the Golden Compass, but you'll soon find yourself liking him just as much. This book is even more satisfying than the Golden Compass in many ways. In it, you're introduced to more odd contraptions and interesting and lovable characters while the situations get more and more drastic. You'll find yourself disappointed when the last page rolls around and you can't read anymore, and you'll wish that you already had the third book in your hands so you don't have to wait a minute to start reading some more.

Summary: If you think it's all been done--think again!
Review: I began reading the Subtle Knife while I was babysitting--the kids(who had recommended it to me)had gone to bed, and I needed something to do while I waited for the parents to return.... I was finally forced to put it down at 3:00 in the morning after I'd gotten home, and my eyelids refused to stay open. As soon as I woke up, it was in my hand again, and every spare moment of time from then until the end was spent gobbling it up greedily. I am a fan of fiction and fantasy of all sorts, and have seen just about everything there is to see. That's what stunned me so much about this innocent-looking, so-called "children's" book. It is completely on its own--a masterful work of art. No one--not L'Engle, not Lewis, not even Tolkein made their worlds so real to me. The worlds of the Subtle Knife are made up of elements so uniquely and subtley created and woven--in a language both so simple and so elegant--that you find yourself lost and engrossed in the minds of the characters, and the twists of the plot. The inescapable themes of humanity are given new life and light, both on an epic scale, and in the more personal actions and interactions of the characters. New dilemmas and connections are added all the time to constantly stimulate and do credit to even the most discerning of readers--and yet, the concepts are basic enough for young readers to grasp. It is a story of many levels. Mr. Pullman is truly a genious, with a talent for writing which seldom comes around. If you are a reader yearning for something fresh, with breadth and depth beyond any expectations, may I humbly recommend The Subtle Knife. I can only say that the third book is awaited very, very impatiently!

Summary: Sniff! Choo! Meek! Wack! Bam!
Review: Okay, now that I got your attention with the title, I just wanted to tell you shortly and sweetly that this is a really powerful and well-planned book. You won't want to stop traveling with Lyra and Will so much that you will probably forget to pick up the dry cleaning and call your sick aunt. It's that good, if I've made my point.

P.S. makes more sense if you've read Golden Compass.

Summary: Waiting, and Waiting...
Review: This book was a great book! I read it in less than a day, and it left me hanging. I began the trilogy when I was in the fifth grade, and I am now a junior in high school and the third installment has not yet been published. I have noticed that many other books by Pullman have, and I ask you, what is the fairness in that?

Summary: The Subtle Knife
Review: This book left me so confused that it would practically be impossible for me not to be counting down the days until the release of the third book in this amazing trilogy. When I say that this book left me confused, I'm paying it a complement. Pullman kept me reading this book by his wonderful use of suspense, and he continues his suspense through to the next book of the series. Just as soon as I thought I knew what was going on, who the "Authority" might be, who is "good", who is "bad", and where all the characters fit into the story, Pullman takes the plot in a totally unexpected direction. I borrowed "The Subtle Knife" from the library, thinking it would be a book that I read once and never picked up again. And now you find me at my computer, the day after I finished the book, ordering this book, "The Golden Compass," and "The Amber Spyglass." I strongly urge you to read this book asap, and you might as well order the third volume now... I guarantee you'll want to keep reading.
